  1. Not that I know. I think he takes it.
  2. That was strange. VERY STRANGE!
  3. To me, that is okay as long as they really use the "saved money" to add another pitcher or upgrade a planned addition somewhere else. If we sign Matz ($10-13M/yr) and Iggy (2-4M/yr), how much is left over to add another pitcher or two?
  4. Chris Taylor rejects QO. Man, how many comp picks will the Dodgers get? (Good thing, not one for Kershaw.)
  5. I doubt they win 72%+ of his starts like they did in Boston since 2018.
  6. I got 17 years on Lugo. Sooooo young!
  7. The 26 man roster might look like this... Vaz + Plawecki or Wong Dalbec Arroyo + ___FA___ Devers Bogey Verddugo + Duran Kike + Locastro Renfroe JD Eovaldi Sale __FA__ Pivetta __FA__ (Seabold) Houck Whitlock __FA__ Barnes Brasier Taylor DHern Davis/Sawamura/Valdez/Bazardo/Feltman/Seabold
  8. No ERod does free up some salary space, assuming we plan on spending to the point we did last year or more.
  9. I feel the same. I would not like casas for Castillo, unless we locked him up LT.
  10. $14M x 2 with $2M in possible incentives and 16.3M x 3 with $1M in possible incentives years 3-5 is "back-loaded" but not by much.
  11. He'll have a better D behind him.
  12. I have serious doubts about Stroman, Ray, gausman and Rodon. I think we trade for a better pitcher making much less money. This will allow us to sign some good RP'ers and maybe even a surprise, everyday player. (Semien? Baez? Schwarber?)
  13. I was a big ERod fan, even when he was struggling to get out of the 5th inning for a couple years way back when. The team won, when he started. They won over 72% of his starts since 2018. I'm pretty sure that is a ML best.
  14. I just read that. He does havd another $2M he can earn in incentives, but it seems light for the 2 years. (We have to remember the value of the lost draft pick, too.)
  15. Just 45 years old. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/julio-lugo-passes-away.html
  16. Just take the rare compliment.
  17. On the surface $28M/2 looks like a good deal for Detroit, and it is. It's basically $18.4M for the QO he could have gotten and just $9.6M for year two. Have they announced the actual pay structure?
  18. If the Reds did not have Votto, I would think Casas would be a cornerstone of a trade for Castillo. Maybe a third team might get involved. I doubt we trade Mayer for 2 years of Castillo, but if an extension can be agreed to before the trade is finalizes (does this happen anymore?) maybe we go crazy for him. It's hard to imaging us finding any package that would land us Castillo without Casas or Mayer. One possiblity would be if we take Moustakas with Castillo. (BTV has Mike at about -$30M value and Castillo at +68M.) BTV accepts Verddugo & Groome for Castillo & Moustakas or Duran, Downs and Groome for the same two, but it also accepts this unlikely combo: Duran, Downs, Dalbec & Yorke for Castillo, alone.
  19. That article is from 2017. I'm not doubting its veracity, but mvp knows his stuff.
  20. Yes, the Tigers could have a great rotation as early as 2022. If they add Correa or Semien, they can compete with the White Sox.
  21. I'm not sure we know ERod's thought or motives, and you often question people for making statements they can not support with facts. I think Detroit offered more than the Sox were prepared to offer. He may or may not be happy about leaving the team that set him on course to make millions and gave him a big fat ring on his finger.
  22. Looking beyond ERA does not mean ignoring it or ignoring the first third of the season, or ignoring he had serious COVID health issues from 2019 that could possibly linger on for years. The opt out is a big plus for ERod and shows the Tigers valued him highly.
  23. I seriously doubt both Houck and Whitlock move to the rotation. (I'd prefer neither do.) I think we'll trade for a younger and less expensive SP'er on his last arb or two.
  24. I do, too, but the money he got proves GMs look beyond ERA and see that after he shook off the "rust" early in the season, he got back into form.
  25. It's hard to know. Maybe Bloom likes some other pitcher better. Maybe he likes getting the draft pick and finding an equal or better pitcher somewhere/somehow else.
