  1. Don't count on it.
  2. I wish west coast games would start at 6 pm Pacific time.
  3. Yes, you tend to miss the best ones more than the so-so ones.
  4. Why not call it the Ted Williams era or "reign?" You missed my point, as usual.
  5. If I had written this, you'd have nit-picked the fact that the Yaz "era" ended in 1983.
  6. '72 was awful, too. We finished 1/2 game behind the Tigers due to an unbalanced schedule caused by a work stoppage. That year, we won 4 in a row (going up 1.5) before losing 3 of the last 4, including 2 of 3 to Detroit.
  7. Yaz had such a bubbly and happy persona!
  8. I disagree with this opinion.
  9. If it was offensive to you, I apologize. You often quote ZIPS and Steamer and use them as a reference and as the backbone of your player evaluation. I only meant it in this sense and context. My guess is you quote those sources more than all the rest of the posters combined. Once could say you use them "religiously," or would that be offensive, too?
  10. ZIPS=Gospel to you.
  11. WS chances: 10.9% HOU 8.4% NYY 8.0% CWS 6.2% TOR 5.9% TBR 2.2% BOS 1.8% LAA, OAK 1.3% CLE 1.2% SEA For a man who depends on ZIPS as much as you do, this sure shows the ALE division to be super dominant over the ALW, next year. The Sox are 6th in playoff chances as well, despite being behind 3 teams in their division.
  12. No, it was another game. I think they lost that one something like 6-2. I was just making an observation about Perez & HRs not related to game 7.
  13. I'll go with Bench, but Morgan was great, too.
  14. Reggie Cleveland allowed 2 HRs to Perez, but yes, that one off Lee was the killer.
  15. Yes, I know the history. I just did not "live" that history. '67 woke up the dormant Sox fans.
  16. I became a Sox fan in 1972, so the '67 season was not part of my life. Great season, though! I can see how that one tops 1075 for many older Sox fans.
  17. That was my favorite team. I was just a teenager, and it was such an exciting time and experience. The heart break was pretty rough, but what a team. Luis Tiant Bill Lee Burleson Lynn Rice Evans Fisk Carbo, Cooper, Doyle & Griffin Roger Moret Only 10 pitchers had more than 7 IP! They only used 12 all year (2 for 11 IP combined!) Lee, Tiant and Wise all had 255+ IP
  18. That was certainly the best 5 year stretch in Sox history, at least post Babe Ruth. We came so close in 2003. here are the highest Sox fWAR teams from 2003-2018: 54.1 2003 & 2016 52.0 2013 51.3 2008 50.7 2018 50.6 2011 48.1 2007 45.3 2004 ( I hope I added these numbers correctly. I was rushed.)
  19. I'm not saying fWAR should decide which Sox team was the best, but here are some numbers from 2004-2018: Best fWAR (batting + fielding) 36.3 2011 36.2 2013 35.2 2016 32.9 2008 32.2 2018 29.7 2007 27.6 2005 24.9 2010 24.7 2004 24.4 2009 (wRC+: 117 in 2011, 114 in 2013 & 2004, 113 in 2016, 112 in 2005, 111 in 2018, 110 in 2008 and 109 in 2007 & 2010.) Pitching fWAR: 23.2 2017 20.6 2004 18.8 2016 18.5 2018 & 2009 18.4 2007 & 2008 15.8 2013 15.7 2010 Add together: 52.0 2013 50.7 2018 48.1 2007 45.3 2004 (Best pitching)
  20. Looking over the all time leaders in K-BB%, I found the Sox have 4 pitchers in the top 10, 5 in the top 14, 6 in the top 16, 7 in the top 22 and 8 in the top 23. Also, 9 in the top 30. 1. Sale 24.9% 4. Pedro 21.0% 6. Schilling 18.1% 10. Price 17.2% 14. Clemens 15.3% 16. Peavy 15.2% 22. Beckett 14.8% 23. Smoltz 14.5% 30. Lester 13.9%
  21. Hard to argue, except maybe 2018.
  22. Just one of thousands of maybes.
  23. Saw the movie American Underdog," yesterday. Made me think how many potentially great players never got a shot and missed the glory.
  24. The guy had a .935 OPS in 95 PAs (most at DH), that year, but then fell off a cliff. Left MLB with a career .814 OPS. (I don't remember him either. Daubach, Offerman and Stanley played 1B, that season. Rico Brogna played more 1B than Morgan, that year.)
  25. soxprospects has JBJ listed as the 4th OF'er with Verdugo in RF and Kike in CF. They also have Arroyo on the bench. They have 4 slots listed as "Acquisition:" 2B LF Closer RP2 Houck and Whitlock are listed as "Rotation/Long Relief."
