  1. Hard to know. He might have been trying to stir up some interest.
  2. It's hard to compare their defense. I shutter to think of Beni in RF. Renfroe in Fenway's LF would not be all that bad. I'd call Renfroe & Beni close to even. The 5 players/prospects obtained makes the deal more promising.
  3. It's like he's trolling Sox fans.
  4. I totally agree. He's a better fielder than Bogey, but Bogey's bat is steady and better. His age is a big plus. His playoff heroics are not a repeatable skillset. I would not sign him for $24M x 10.
  5. Yes, and not only that, he's had rather pedestrian numbers in all even years: .811 in '16 .728 in '18 .709 in '20 How is this worth $30M x 10+ years? He's at .811 in his last 1650 PAs (ages 23-26.)
  6. I'm not upset. Again, you assume wrongly. And you said "If you ignore..." in a response to my post. That seems directed at me. Maybe, if you think before you go off on another hyper critical post, this would not happen, and again, I am not upset or angry. In fact, I am highly content and relaxed.
  7. I can see how it might appear some did, as the year off in 2020 provided chances for many prospects to gain in 2021 (and fall.) I just can't see how we stayed even after adding so many good to great prospects by drafting and a little through trading.
  8. I was not the one who called him a 5 dollar bill, initially. I was just responding with the same terminology used by a previous poster. Also, I was not aware a 5 dollar player was worth anything more than an average player. Again, you twist and twirl and assume wrongly. (I did not ignore anything. I was never high on Beni. I liked the trade and still do.)
  9. Best Sox OPS Against Streaks in 2021 (35 IP+ with no overlaps) .498 Barnes (40 IP) 2.48 ERA .514 Ottavino (37) 1.96 .598 Houck (39) 2.97 .602 Pivetta (43) 3.16 .602 Taylor (45) 2.60 .613 Valdez (35) 3.82 .620 ERod (43) 3.12 .625 Eovaldi (48) 2.27 .631 Whitlock (38) 1.42 .631 Whitlock (35) 2.55 .638 Perez (37) 2.68 .647 Eovaldi (35) 3.63 .654 DHern (38) 2.82 .674 Eovaldi (59) 2.61 .697 Sale (35) 2.80 .707 Sawamura (37) 2.43 .726 Richards (43) 2.70 .753 ERod (38) 3.32
  10. Best OPS Streaks of 2021 with 150+ PAs (no overlapping streaks): 1.114 Bogey (150 PAs) 4/5-5/15 1.056 JD M (150 PAs) 4/3-5/11 1.031 Devers (161 PAs) 4/18-5/21 .971 Schwarber (150) 8/15-9/30 .956 Dalbec (222 PAs) 6/17-9/18 .949 Devers (240 PAs) 5/23-8/1 .932 Kike (232) 6/28-9/7 .922 Renfroe (259) 6/20-9/8 .893 JD M (233) 5/12-7/21 .880 Verdugo (170) 4/5-5/21 .879 Renfroe (155) 5/1-6/16 .873 Bogey (155) 5/19-7/1 .836 Arroyo (152) 4/10-7/17 .825 Devers (207) 8/10-10/3 .780 Verdugo (295) 5/28-8/25 .756 Plawecki (150) 4/3-9/6 .687 Vazquez (156) 4/4-5/23 .618 Marwin (176) 4/3-6/6 (I did the best I could. Some better streaks might be found by deeper research.)
  11. An overview of the difference between the February minor leaguers from 2021 to 2022 might be summed up like this: Our depth beyond the top 10-12 is better, now. Maybe everybody's is due to COVID keeping prospects from playing in 2020. Lets assume Casas is about the same, although one could argue he's a better prospect, now. Mayer and Yorke replaced Downs and Mata as our 2-3. That's a huge improvement, IMO. Duran and Downs were pushed down by those two, and some could argue their stock took a hit- large or small. Dalbec and Houck we never all that highly regarded, so losing them to graduation should not have offset the rise of Bello, Jordan, Seabold and others. Groome was #4 last winter. He didn't have a bad 2021, but he has slipped #8. (I actually like his chances more, now, than last winter.) Mata dropped due to surgery, and that is common (same with Ward.) I can see how other teams have also seen their farm grow and improve, alongside ours, but I just can't see how Law ranks us the same as last year.
  12. Is than an opinion? LOL
  13. Unless Cora is pitching in some money to sign him, I doubt it matters he's our manager.
  14. Renfroe was a least a shiny 50 cent piece. Some might argue he was a five dollar bill like beni.
  15. You might think you're not making a point, but the assumption was obvious.
  16. Kinda takes the steam away fromyour Duran point.
  17. Good point, but his H & A splits were pretty even in his previous season.
  18. Franchy plus 4 prospects: #13 Josh Winckowski https://soxprospects.com/players/winckowski-josh.htm (unranked) Freddy Valdez https://soxprospects.com/players/valdez-freddy.htm #54 Grant Gambrell https://soxprospects.com/players/gambrell-grant.htm #55 Luis de la Rosa https://soxprospects.com/players/delarosa-luis.htm
  19. Last Year's April 1st top 20 by soxprospects.com: Casas Downs Mata Groome Jimenez Dalbec Duran Houck (was not as highly regarded as some remember, at that time) Song Chatham Ward Wong Zeferjahn A Ramirez (traded away) Lugo Murphy Decker Cannon Bello Bonaci NOV 20, 2021 Casas Mayer Yorke Duran Downs Bello Jordan Groome Jimenez Mata Seabold Gonzalez Winckowski Murphy Bleis Wong Walter Song Ward McDonough (We added Binelas who was slotted #18 and Hamilton at #26.)
  20. I get your point about other teams likely improving, too, but again, who else gained 2 in the top 100 while holding firm on depth. (Also, if a few teams also added a couple to the top 100, some teams lost a player or two. Our graduated players were not all that highly ranked, last year. All I'm saying is that I think Law needs a more in depth explanation for his failure to move us up even 1 slot. I'm not buying the "drops" by Duran and Downs offset the additions and improving player by enough to keep us at #20.
  21. Renfroe + 5 players.
  22. The haul seems pretty promising: Pivetta Seabold Winckoski R Hernandez Others have some high upside but are raw, now.
  23. We also added Hamilton, Binelas, McDonough, Hickey and others. I'm sure other teams added more depth, but it's not like we took a step back beyond the top 100-150.
  24. What offset the rise of Casas and Bello? Did Duran's 112 first PAs in MLB really cancel out his .873 OPS in his first year at AAA? While Jeter Downs certainly dropped off a cliff in AAA, he basically jumped a level. He did follow his AAA season with a decent Fall League OPS of .880. Casas improved in AA (.879 to .830 in A/A+ the year before), then hit .866 in limited action at AAA. He followed than up with .982 in AZFL. Did Law move him up in his rankings? Jordan and Groome's stock rose, but maybe that was offset by Jimenez and Mata's fall. I can understand that other teams may have improved, too, but nobody else added Mayer. That alone, should have moved us up.
  25. How many other teams went from 2 prospects near 5oth to 4 in the top 90? They can't all gain 2 slots. Plus, it was his comment about the Sox pitching being better than it has been in ages, and only Bello was in his top 100. That makes it look like he thinks we are deep in at least one area. I get how rankings involve other teams, who may or may not have improved over last year, but a lot of players graduated, last year, too. I still think he owes a deeper explanation.
