That's too easy to say. I doubt it works out that easily. Plus, Iggy got a 4 year deal. that changes the dynamic.

True, but I still think Henry started out by giving Ben a wide window to rebuild, but the 3 last place finishes were just too much for him to accept.

Me, too, but assuming the budget is somewhat fixed, who do we give up to match the $14.5M x 5 Iggy got? JBJ seems like the obvious choice. Wacha 7, Hill 5 comes close, too.

It has to be part of it. That being said, even if you adjust to park factors, we have some very low OPS players on the team, right now, and some promising farm hands that can maybe provide a spark or light a fire under some of our vets.

Indeed. I had thought Henry had given Ben a 5 year window, but he pulled the plus before the time was up. He may repeat this impatience with Bloom, too, but I get the feeling Henry is on board with a longer rebuild time frame. If 2021 had not happened, it might have been easier for Bloom to totally remake the Sox. Doing very poorly, this season, may give him the opening to do just that.

Where does Sanchez play? Do they bench Story or Devers? I think calling Fitzy and maybe Duran up, first is most likely. I think they wait on Casas to gain the extra year of service time. It looks like the plan is all about 2023 and 2024, anyway.

Yes, but they also shrivel up like "frightened turtles" when things go badly.

I think Henry sticks with Bloom for longer than he did with Ben. Depending on how much he allows him to spend this coming winter, I think he'll have to the end of 2023, at the earliest. I guess, if he spends like a maniac, this winter, then they tank in 2023, he might be gone mid season, but I doubt it.

I'm pretty sure the $8M option buy out counted towards the first 2 years of his deal, and only $4M will count on the lux tax for 2023. They don't double count that $8M buy out.

It's all about valuing JBJ as worth $4M, next year. If they thought he was worth $12M, this year, I'm not so sure it's a no-brainer for them.

So, it's impossible for the Sox to alter their approach? It's impossible for Pivetta, the guy you praised Bloom for trading for to turn things around? (He's the only starter struggling, and even he has a .636 OPS Against and a 1.97 FIP in his last 2 starts.)

JBJ has a massive buyout of his 2023 option year. It's $8M to let him walk and $12M to keep him. He may very well be back, next season.

You said the same about Eovaldi that you are now saying about Paxton. Also, it could be Sale not Paxton that brings some relief to the rotation and allows Houck or Whitlock to go back to the pen. This is basically the same team you praised Bloom for building, last year, and after just one month, your tune is the exact opposite. Hell, you were even bashing Cashman and Boone and the Yankees, earlier, this season. You should know, seasons often turn on a dime.

You sound pretty sure of yourself and the Sox future. You sure didn't sound like this in March, and just one month has solved every riddle to the season? Our pitching may get better. You, yourself, said Bloom won the Pivetta trade, and he has sucked, so far. Sale and Paxton may return, and Hill and Eovaldi have shown signs of joining Wacha as being in the groove. We've heard you project the demise of our pen for several years, so I think you'd at least leave an a little chance they may not implode like you always expect them to. Our pen FWAR is 19th best. Its xFIP is nearly the same as the Yanks, and that's with Houck and Whitlock starting some games. All is not lost for this season, but I'm not going to pretend things look good, right now, but bashing our future pitching is just plain speculation.

We're like 3-4 games behind the playoffs while playing as badly as possible. I'm not predicting glory, but it won't take much to get back in the WC race. A lot can happen before July. I seriously doubt this offense will stay this bad. It's easy to look at the Sox and say we see no signs of turning things around, but baseball is a long season.

He's going to need to do well, just to shut up the Renfroe lovers.
