    Well, he was handed a winter spending budget very unlike DD's for his first 2 winters.

    Filling just 3 slots pretty much guarantees mediocrity.

    It's hard to know what else we could have gotten for Betts, and it's a lot easier to criticize what we did get. I think the idea is to get the best we can for players we know we will not re-sign or extend, and then use the money saved to make up the difference. Supplement that with some farm help, and the plan is probably the best we can hope for, if signing large and long deals is off the table.

    They act like Bloom was given DD's winter spending budgets b ut chooses to spend like he's the Ray's GM. This makes him "in over his head." How quickly 2019 is wiped clean.

    Mayer 1-2 w a 2B and BB (2 rbi) in a shortened game. Paulino 2-3 and Kavadas 1-2. Gonzalez went the full 5 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K Portland lost 8-7 after allowing 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th and 3 in the bottom of the 10th! Wilson & Hamilton with 2 hits. The team walked 8 times! Murphy went 6 strong innings: 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K. Woo lost 8-4. Stewart with a 2B and 3 rbi. Duran 2-4 w just 1 K. .

    The individual poster is named Mr. Strawman. There is not a single poster, I know of, who has not criticized Bloom more than 2-3 times. Not one. These guys love to play the persecuted, when all they do all day is persecute Bloom and anyone who tries to justify why he can't fill every hole on a limited budget.

    Walter got drilled, tonight with Woo: 1.2 IP 5 H 6 ER 1 BB 2 K Duran has the team's only 2 hits, so far. Murphy is pitching a 1 hit shutout through 4 innings (1 BB/ 5 K)

    It's easy to bash anything and everything. It's the way of the world. Try asking for a better idea or plan, and all you get is gutless silence. Much is in hindsight, but when they happen to hit on something they criticized on day one, they become emboldened and never let us forget it.

    It takes time to start getting results from people you draft at young ages. Bloom is in the midst of improving the farm. It may end up sucking, and we'll all join you and your talk show callers in one big B loom bash. Expecting farm results, this quickly, is naive.

    I guess we can all agree: we should have signed Suzuki and R Iglesias, instead of Story, Wacha, Hill, Diekman and Strahm. We'd be in first place by now.

    I'm just thinking his rehab will take him near to August/September, but yes, if we are in rebuild mode, and he's ready for the bigs, sure- call him up.
