  1. The Sox farm went 3-1, again tonight. (14-2 the last 4 nights) Woo 9-0 win: 3 hitter by 4 pitchers (Shugart 4, Feltman 2, DHern 1, Politi 2) Castellanos 3-5 (.816 now), Fitzy 2-4 w 3 rbi (.740) and EValdez 1-3 w 2 BB & HR. POR won 6-3: Wilyer Abreu drew his 100th BB and homered while going 2-3, Hamilton hit his 11th HR, Kavadas went 2-4 (.829 in AA) and Binelas also went 2-4 w a 2B (.583 in AA). GRE won 8-0: 6 hitter. Yorke 3-5, Mayer 2-5 w 2B & 3B, Lugo 2-5, Hickey 2-5 w 9th HR. SAL lost 6-3: Paulino 2-3 w 2B & BB, Bonaci 1-3 w BB
  2. Some Sox are rising in the OPS rankins: .889 Devers .879 Refsnyder (134 PAs) .846 Bogey .782 JaDavis (27) .770 JD .759 Vaz .746 Arroyo .732 Story .731 Wong (13) .731 Dugo .715 Hosmer (.727 SDP/.611 BOS) .714 Cordero .713 Pham (.694 CIN/.789 BOS) .648 Duran .646 Kike .644 Dalbec .620 McGuire (was .546 w CWS/.849 since trade) .578 JBJ .566 Plawecki .427 Downs (41) .322 Sanchez (44) .000 Shaw (19)
  3. 3.5 games behind the #7 slot in the AL, which is top half. (5 in the loss column to CLE.)
  4. Ohio State deserved to win, but the Irish looked pretty good. Maybe they will end up in the top 4. They'll have to beat Clemson and USC.
  5. At least it was a solid hit.
  6. This just goes to show you how a team's fate can turn on a dime, and for no apparent reason, at times. The Yanks looked like the 2018 Sox for a half season, and now this...
  7. What a total bummer. This season has been a total snakebite!
  8. Long awaited. I hope this kid is all we hope he can be!
  9. Yes. The deadline deals made us better in 2022 and beyond... something not to easy to do. + McGuire + Pham + Hosmer + multiple prospects, including Valdez, Abreu and Freguson + dumping Diekman ? Hosmer (free) - Vaz - Groome I also think the net results of all his winter moves does not come to a negative: Negative: JBJ trade Diekman signing (turned into a plus by dumping his contract and acquiring McGuire for multiple years) OK: Hill ??? Story Good: Strahm Great: Wacha Schreiber Refsnyder
  10. You forgot waiver wire: Schreiber. On FA signings, he did very well on Wacha at $7M and Strahm for just $3M. Hill at $5M was not horrible. Diekman's signing sucked, but we got the CWS to take his contract and give us a catcher we might use as our starter. Last year, he swung and missed on Richards and Perez, but it looks like he was just a year off on Martin. The Ottavino trade brought us German, too. Not a bad deal, even if German doesn't do great. He has yet to go large and long on a pitcher, or trade anything of value for a solid one. That may (should) change, this winter.
  11. It takes a while to build up the farm, then a few more years for them to mature into MLB players who prove the system worked. The farm looks better, now, but only time will tell.
  12. I'm glad the brought him up, this year, even if it was a bit rushed.
  13. I'd be happy with Devers Bogey Wacha Kike Nimmo RP'er Top OBP FAs on this Winter's Market (2019-2022) 10. Nimmo .379 13. Bogey .377 16. Y Grandal .372 22. Brantley .368 33. Rizzo .362 40. Belt .357 41. Abreu .355 42. Correa .355 45. Bell .354 48. Cruz .353 49. Muncy .353 55. JD .351 64. C Santana .349 73. T Anderson .347 77. K Wong .345
  14. Abreu and Valdez are finally showing what they can do.
  15. Georgia really showed just how much the PAC-10 sucks.
  16. Their system goes deeper than just the guys who ran it, from time to time. It's the lower guys, apparently, that do all the leg work and find and develop talent. You'd think the guy who literally wrote the book on the Ray's system would know how to establish it here with the Sox, and maybe over time, it will come to fruition, but as the Smiths would sing... How Soon is Now?
  17. Speaking of getting on base, Woo drew 11 BBs, today. (6 Ks) Almonte and Sogard walked 3 times, each. EValdez walked twice and homered. Woo won. GRE is up 3-0 in the 7th. Hickey 2-3 with a homer.
  18. I see Kavadas as more about OBP than power. I don't see Yorke, Mayer and Romero as all or nothing type players. They walk and get hits. Power is their, but it's not number 1. To build the pen from the system will take time, so how else can we do it, without spending? Uehara's don't come along all that often.
  19. Very short list, and the few that are good will cost way too much.
  20. Should we spend big on the pen, like the Yanks? Has Bloom been drafting and signing big hulk power guys and not OBP guys that I'm not aware of? He traded away a 30 HR guy. He signed Story. He drafted Yorke with his first pick ever. He drafted Mayer with the highest pick the Sox have ever had. He drafted Romero, this year. None are big power guys.
  21. Will the Sox show interest in an of these free agents? SP: deGrom, Wacha (QO?), Rodon, Kershaw CF/RF: Judge, Nimmo, Kike, Haniger 2B: KWong, AFrazier SS: Turner, Correa, Bogey, Swanson, Anderson RP: Diaz, Jansen, Treinen, Fulmer, Ta.Rogers, Montero 1B: Rizzo, Bello, Abreu, Mancini, Aguilar, Y Gurriel, Belt C: Contreras, Narvaez
  22. If this is true, I hope they win the division and then lose round one.
  23. And, Bloom was criticized for not doing what Cashman does (this year and last.) Unlike Cashman, Blooms deals, this year, made us better, next year and beyond, too. (I suppose Montas might trun things around, but teh Yanks parted with some good prospects.)
  24. All true, and I value Casas so much, I think an untested prospect is worth a known ace-type pitcher with two years at arb cost.
