  1. Lots of highlights, tonight. At least we are helping the Rays chances of catching the Yanks.
  2. From soxprospects,com... The Red Sox completed their trade with the White Sox where they acquired catcher Reese McGuire for a PTBNL and left-hander Jake Diekman. Taylor Broadway has been announced as the player to be named. Broadway is a 26-year-old right-handed reliever who made 40 appearances in the White Sox system this year. A majority of that came in Double-A, where he posted a 4.74 ERA in 49 1/3 innings. His strikeouts numbers were extremely impressive, punching out 74 hitters with just 14 walks. He was taken in the sixth round by Chicago last year out of Mississippi and has reported to the Sea Dogs.
  3. Pivetta tries to right the ship and himself vs Ole Sox Jeffrey Springs. Line-up 1. Kike SS 2. Pham LF 3. Dugo RF 4. Story 2B 5. JD DH 6. Arroyo 3B 7. Ref CF 8. Casas 1B 9. Wong C
  4. Wacha has had other very good year- yes, most were many years ago, but these guys believe in themselves. Think of what he might make, if he has 2 really good years in a row. I get your point, and you may be right, but many players will take $18M/1 over $40M 3. Yes, he's not young, but he's not 35, either. I think he takes the $18M QO.
  5. If the Sox are counting on Sale AND Paxton, we are doomed. I'm thinking, if they plan on both as one 2/3 Starter type, that might be too much to ask, as well, but I think that has to be how they have to see it.
  6. I'd offer 1 to Wacha and not Nate.
  7. 1. 1 year deals are usually overpays. 2. 2024 will be year 3 of the lux tax, so 1 year deals would facilitate a reset 3. Both have a serious chance at earning $18M in 2023. (I's say close to more than 50%.)
  8. I think both would take a QO. I think Wacha would have to think he can make $50M/3 to turn down $18M/1. Does he get that?
  9. I don't disagree. I'm just saying we are not adding 3 SP'er, this winter (including QOs taken.)
  10. I don't disagree, but even if you built 30 brand new stadiums, one would be rated worst and second worst, but it doesn't mean it's horrible. That's my point. Now, I was there a long time ago, too, so there's that.
  11. I'd still want Pivetta, even if we brought back/in 2 SP'er. We aren't bring 3.
  12. If he's just healthy, he's an upgrade. (Remember, our CF, this year, was .664 with JBJ and Duran playing the most after Kike, and Kike getting less than half the CF PAs.)
  13. I was just making a point that we could trade 2 SP'ers on the roster or about to be pre-Rule 5 for a very capable player. Note: I'm not for depleting the pitching staff. If we traded 2 lower starters, I'd still want to add several pitchers to the current staff.
  14. That could also be because we protect everyone who needs to be or even more than need to be.
  15. They make for nice super wide on ramps.
  16. I don't think I'd be looking to trade the only pitcher we have that rates to go 150+ IP, next year, like Pivetta. I don't think we'd get much for Wink or Seabold, but we would for Mata, Walter, Wikelman and maybe TWard and Murphy. Remember, I also said 2 of them. I think Wink & Walter or Wink & Wikelman gets us a 2Bman who is entering arb year or higher cots last 2 years of arb.
  17. Tropicana Field has 3 major Interstate highways very near it: 275, 175 and 375. There is just one road to Tampa, but many stadiums have issues like that.
  18. I think they feel they have had a chance to go the World Series for a few years in a row, now- unlike us. They actually went in 2020. When they trade away good players, especially mid-season, I think they do so, thinking they are getting someone who will be helpful in a few years, and as they do that, they are calling up someone they traded for a few years ago. It's a replenishing cycle that works, and it could work for big spending teams, too, but only for players they don't intend to extend- something the Rays never do, unless they lock a kid up way before arb years. The Rays are trying hard to win a ring, within the budgetary confinces their owner places on the GM. They have found a way to be pretty highly competitive for many years in a row. They got their initial start at measured success, by getting several high draft picks in the mid 2000's, but since then they have worked the system in their favor. They used to hoard comp picks, but when that went away, they changed, yet again. They rely on great scouting of ML talent and knowing when someone is about to have a career year, or knowing a tweak that will improve someone that may have been like a journeyman their whole career. They have had 3 losing seasons since 2007 (one was 80-82), and have never finished last since then. Since 2009, they have had no winning seasons' winning percent below .556. Since 2017, they finished 3, 3, 2, 1, 1 and are currently in 2nd in a very tough division. To do this on a restricted budget is simply amazing, and it's no mistake 3 people from their system are now GMs on other teams (LAD, HOU & BOS).
  19. IMO, we haven't lost any, in a while, because our 40 man roster depth has been pretty weak, and we've been able to add any and all Rule 5 borderline prospects. I see a possible logjam, this year, but only if we plan on adding, via trade or FA, 5-6+ players.
  20. Many are already on the 40. SP- I don't count Bello or Mata as wanting to trade, but... these, yes: Wink, Crawford, Seabold RP- Danish, Ort, Kelly, Bazardo I am certain someone would take Ceddanne Rafael, Frank German and Brandon Walter Other Rule 5 candidates: OF Wilyer Abreu (103 BBs in AA) P Wikelman Gonzalez (15th on soxprospects), Thaddeus Ward (17th on sp) U Eddison Paulino (10th ranked on soxprospects) Doubtful IF Bonaci, D Hamilton, C Koss OF G Jimenez C Cottam P V Santos, N Song, J Thompson, D Feltman
  21. It a traffic mess at many stadiums, and some of those have 25-40K going to the game.
  22. I've been to about 12 MLB stadiums. They all seemed nice to me, so maybe I'm easy. The 2nd worst stadium might still be nice, right? It seems to me, there are about 20 really nice stadiums, maybe 5-8 pretty nice and maybe 1-2 that are borderline nice. Tropicana is no Camden Yards, but it's not bad, IMO.
  23. Maybe they trade 2 excess 5th starters wanna-be's for a 2Bman, DH/RF'er or established RP'er.
  24. Not counting Casas, too. I could also see German added to your pitcher list. Position players: R Hernandez, especially if we add no catchers. Maybe Wilyer Abreu (OF) , a big OBP guy, too.
  25. I really don't understand why we can't get a great QB. It's like they don't want anything flashy. They tried to keep Joe Montana down, and if it wasn't for 2 injuries, he may never haver been given a real chance. He wasn't the typical Domer. He was actually supposed to live in the same hall I was in my Freshman year, and even in the same hallway, but he "secretly" lived off campus and was married. (I never saw him in my dorm, but I did see Orlando Woolridge and other players like Luther Bradley and Jerome Heavens.)
