  1. I do agree that long replay delays are not very enjoyable, but I prefer waiting to watching my team lose on a bad call or two. robo umps will be unnoticeable and quick.
  2. The game will still be full of mistakes- just less by the umps, who if they do their jobs right, should never be "part of the game" itself.
  3. Umm... it seemed that way, since I am into data and am opposed to this rule change. You wrote, in response to my post, Doesn't it seem a tad hypocritical for the people who take their analytics or data or whatever seriously to be opposed to any new rule such as this?
  4. I said I'm leaning against the rule, so how am I hypocritical? Do I need to be firmly against it?
  5. How so?
  6. Exactly, but it's not an ideal situation. Team's don't usually keep a guy on the 26, unless they plan on using them for more than every time your 1Bman needs a day off. If he could play another position, maybe. If he could DH, maybe. I don't think he hits well enough to DH. If he can platoon, somewhere, then yes. He had rare revers splits, this year, but he may be good enough to bat v RHPs at 1B or DH, if he can stay over .750 or so. 2022 .693 v R .772 v L 2021 .754 v R .676 v L 2020 .974 v R .613 v L 2019 .781 v R .600 v L Career .810 v R .668 v L The problem at 1B is that Casas bats lefthanded, too. (Enmanuel Valdez bats LH'd, too.) A Pham-Hosmer platoon at DH might reach JD's .765 number in 2022, but I would think we might try to do better.
  7. I'm not passionately against the rule. I'm kind of in the middle but leaning against it.
  8. Okajima was never really a pumpkin before 2007. he wasn't in MLB. He had a nice 2008 season- not as good, but nice. He was decent in 2009, but yes, never the same.
  9. To me, it has nothing to do with analytics, except for the fact that more data and more teams using it has created many more shifts. I just don't see why making this rule to limit "smarts" in baseball is needed.
  10. The sweep of the red hot Rockies was sweet!
  11. We also saw Wake go 17-12 in 31 starts and the start of lester's career. No real need to mention Manny (.881) or Papi (1.006,) because we all can never forget them. Lugo gave us solid D, that first year of his contract, and then injuries derailed his best asset. Let's not forget Coco Crisp's brilliant defense in CF and decent OBP (.330) with 28 SBs. Cora, Hinske and Ellsbury gave us some decent bench help. The pen had some nice depth, that year, too- not many big names, but still....
  12. I agree, and until Dalbec shows he can hit better than Hosmer, I'd prefer Hosmer.
  13. Plus time from everyday AAA killers like Duran, Franchy, Refsnyder and not Wong, Almonte and Casas.
  14. This might be our only chance to get close to .500: 3 v KCR day off 2 @ CIN Then, it get's tough: 3 @ NYY 4 v BAL 3 @ TOR 3 v TBR I don't expect a hot streak, but it would be nice to end the season on a high note, and maybe play spoiler to the Yanks or another division foe.
  15. The DSL Blue Red Sox finished with the best DSL record at 44-16. The DSL Red team finished second in the division at 36-21 (3rd best overall.) The FCL Red Sox finished 35-20 (2nd in the division to the Rays team.) Salem finished 29-35 (4th out of 6 teams) in A - ball. Greenville had the worst record on the Sox farm at 26-38 (5th out of 6 in div.) In AA, Portland currently has the best record at 44-22 (4 games up on Bowie- BAL, Erie-DET and 6 up on Somerset-NYY.) Some very promising play by our AA prospects. Woo is currently in 6th place out of 10 , but has a winning record at 70-67. They are 4th in run diff at +45. Not a bad season for our AAA team.
  16. If they do, and the SS is just to the LF side of the line, there will be an even bigger "stack" than before.
  17. The shift only affects infielders, right? Will we see a LF'er line-up in just off the grass in RF vs some lefties? Guys like Kike could move in from CF to 2B/RF and Dugo could slide to CF.
  18. Minor League BB Leaders 113 W Abreu 107 J Singleton 106 J Farmer 103 A Gauthier 101 N Kavadas 97 I Greene 96 M Ferguson 15. B Bonaci with 89 BB and 89 Ks OBP (500+ PAs) 1. 19. I saved the elation of the Kavadas walk for you.
  20. Potts with a 2 run dinger- his 13th. Abreu (HR) & Rafaela 1-2 Kavadas with a BB and run scored.
  21. The MLBPA has been pushing for stainless steel robo umps.
  22. Wait, what? There are robo posters? Then, what's the problem with robo umps?
  23. Try saying something positive and watch the anti-Bloomers pounce..
  24. Springs was so bad, for us, in limited time, but it appears Bloom made a good move getting him, but like Martin Perez, his timing was off. I never thought Mazza was a keeper. Add Andriese to the names of guys we replaced those two with.
  25. Agon in RF? Bogey playing 3B after just 10 games in AAA at 3B- right in the middle of a playoff run? VMart to 1B? We've had guys like Holt and Lowrie play several positions without being very good at some of them.
