  1. Their system goes deeper than just the guys who ran it, from time to time. It's the lower guys, apparently, that do all the leg work and find and develop talent. You'd think the guy who literally wrote the book on the Ray's system would know how to establish it here with the Sox, and maybe over time, it will come to fruition, but as the Smiths would sing... How Soon is Now?
  2. Speaking of getting on base, Woo drew 11 BBs, today. (6 Ks) Almonte and Sogard walked 3 times, each. EValdez walked twice and homered. Woo won. GRE is up 3-0 in the 7th. Hickey 2-3 with a homer.
  3. I see Kavadas as more about OBP than power. I don't see Yorke, Mayer and Romero as all or nothing type players. They walk and get hits. Power is their, but it's not number 1. To build the pen from the system will take time, so how else can we do it, without spending? Uehara's don't come along all that often.
  4. Very short list, and the few that are good will cost way too much.
  5. Should we spend big on the pen, like the Yanks? Has Bloom been drafting and signing big hulk power guys and not OBP guys that I'm not aware of? He traded away a 30 HR guy. He signed Story. He drafted Yorke with his first pick ever. He drafted Mayer with the highest pick the Sox have ever had. He drafted Romero, this year. None are big power guys.
  6. Will the Sox show interest in an of these free agents? SP: deGrom, Wacha (QO?), Rodon, Kershaw CF/RF: Judge, Nimmo, Kike, Haniger 2B: KWong, AFrazier SS: Turner, Correa, Bogey, Swanson, Anderson RP: Diaz, Jansen, Treinen, Fulmer, Ta.Rogers, Montero 1B: Rizzo, Bello, Abreu, Mancini, Aguilar, Y Gurriel, Belt C: Contreras, Narvaez
  7. If this is true, I hope they win the division and then lose round one.
  8. And, Bloom was criticized for not doing what Cashman does (this year and last.) Unlike Cashman, Blooms deals, this year, made us better, next year and beyond, too. (I suppose Montas might trun things around, but teh Yanks parted with some good prospects.)
  9. All true, and I value Casas so much, I think an untested prospect is worth a known ace-type pitcher with two years at arb cost.
  10. I think Nimmo can get a QO x 3-4 years. Why would he take a QO?
  11. I put "Swanson/KWong" on one line- meaning one of the other.
  12. If we extend Devers, we may not be able to even afford Swanson. We may be lucky to get 3 from this list: Swanson/Wong Nimmo Kike Abreu/Bell Narvaez Fulmer/Rogers
  13. I get the part about them wanting to trade him, and I'm not high on Duran, but I don't see him as our 2bman. I'd rather go with Arroyo/Valdez, if we choose to go light at 2B.
  14. I'd take Swanson at $22M over Correa at $33M a year. I'd rather get K Wong than Correa, too.
  15. He does get on base, nicely, but at 32, I'm not so sure. Since my value of Duran is lower than what BTV gives him, I'd do it. Would they take that deal adding Yorke and Bleday?
  16. 143 Jack Cust '06 126 Conner Crumbliss '10 124 Colin Walsh 120 Crumbliss 117 Matt Olden '14 22 players with 100+
  17. Did you know there is a hitter on the Sox farm with more than 98 BBs, this year? YES! Wilyer Abreu has 99. 3 players are over 100, this year, already. (on other teams.) Note: Max Ferguson, another Sox farmhand has 94, giving us 3 in the top 6. Are we headed back to OBP being a good thing?
  18. There are 3 more weeks to the season.
  19. He'll cost double.
  20. Weird Kike is 9th. Hottest Hitters 7 Days 1.250 Wong (4 PA) 1.220 Bogey .988 Kike .879 Story .853 Dugo .833 Franchy (12) .802 Pham .787 JD .778 Plawecki .762 Refsnyder .728 Arroyo .670 McGuire .667 Dalbec (9) .485 Devers 14 Days 1.257 Cordero 1.250 Wong 1.094 Bogey 1.065 Plawecki .937 McGuire .879 Story .864 Kike .782 Dugo .780 Pham .771 Arroyo .754 JD .648 Devers .569 Duran .557 Dalbec .500 Hosmer .485 Refsnyder
  21. Agreed. I would add a SS or 2Bman on a 4-6 year deal, this winter. Beyond CF and SP Ace, it's our highest priority. Our nearest propsects at middle IF are Lugo and Downs at SS and Valdez, Koss and maybe Yorke at 2B. (Hamilton can steal 60 bases, but that's about it.)
  22. He'd get hurt at ballet. Better to just wrap him in bubble wrap.
  23. Enmauel Valdez is not a .700 hitter. His stats at WOO are a small sample size. Age 22 (2021) .854 A+ (283 AB) .879 AA (82 AB) Age 23: (2022) 1.112 AA (168 AB) .907 AAA (159 AB in PCL) .707 AAA (103 AB in INT) .879 in 2021 overall .942 in 2022 overall This kid can hit. He has 52 HRs from 2021 to 2022 in 795 ABs. I'M NOT SURE THE .384 OBP in 2022 is sustainable, but it is a nice improvement over .326 in 2021. Don't count this kid out of the DH or 2B conversation. (I do wonder about playing 1B at his listed 5-9 ht.)
  24. How far away are Jordan and Kavadas? Can Hickey play 1B? I think Enmauel Valdez might be too small for 1B. Binelas has not improved enough to be in the discussion. Northcut seems like a AAAA player, for life.
  25. I did make it sound like a 3 or 4 way platoon, but I just meant the 3 or 4 as a group to choose from and depth, if one gets hurt or sucks. I hesitated to count Cordero at 1B, but maybe with some winter workouts he can get to be just as bad a s Dalbec, instead of worse.
