Bogey was not a FA, when he signed his extension. Correa chose a higher salary over years, last winter. I do not think their FA values are that far apart. Bogey is more steady at the plate. Correa is a better defender and "clutch," if you believe that stuff, but he is injured, often, and has been under .790 several seasons in the last 5-6 years. I'd prefer Bogey, if the money and years are even, but it's a close call. I think Correa gets more, so to those who think I hate on Bogey, too much, ponder that statement.

A Garcia might be DFA'd before too long, but he would at least fill the RF/DH role for a while. He's just a salary dump to lessen the return, which essentially allows us to keep Casas I think E & F are better than the others, too. I might do any of these, if MIA insisted on just one.

He's "not likely" to be traded, and I would not be upset, if they do. That's not really "giving up." We may need to create roster room for all the FAs we will sign (lol)

Agrred. There might have been an extension or re-sign but not at those dollars and years.

I'm with you on this one, especially with Bogey. Maybe that offer they made to Bogey is close to as high as they will go, so nothing more could really have been done, except to get him to agree to a trade. Offering him a QO will only hurt his FA value.

If either go the other way, we might have won. Lots of "ifs" in that game. That game was almost as heart-breaking as the '75 WS or the '86 loss, although I was older in '86 and was kind of expecting a loss, to some extent. -
But, maybe not more than Judge.

In-season negotiations are sometimes not wanted by the player. Maybe, something will be done (or decided) early in the off season.

Is that enough? We break even, if lucky, on Bogey, Devers and Wacha. We lose Nate, Hill, Strahm and add maybe Nimmo (your OF) and some pen help. I think we need to add another solid SP'er, too, minimum.

Every team has its limits- both in terms of overall budget and in terms of what is the highest they think someone is worth. They will overpay when absolutely necessary, and Judge kind of fits that bill for the Yanks. Maybe the Mets just go with a nutty offer to get the publicity and fans all riled up. Should the Yanks match a nutty offer? I doubt they will, but I guess it depends on how nutty. Gotta think the Dodgers might make an offer. I know he has said he wants the highest AAV ever, but I think it will come down to biggest dollar amount and the years added will tip the balance.

Yes, they "have enough" to get anyone, but spending that big on one guy, likely ,means we let a couple other slots go unfilled or filled with scrub additions.

Canada to drop COVID border measures on Oct 1st. Maybe, by next season, the unvaxxed will be allowed to play in TOR.

Agreed, but Red's point was Barnes has stuck around due to high cost, which I do think comes into play, at times. I don't think it does with Barnes. He'd still be here at the min or $8.9M per.

I don't think Santana would have cost too much. I am doubtful he was available in late May, but we could have gotten 4-5 weeks or more from him. You have a good point, IMO, now.

He was lights out in AA and AAA without a great secondary pitch. I know that often means squat, but maybe not in his case. He still has time to develop one, too. FYI, I have him pencilled in as our 7th or 8th RP'er in 2022, and feel he could easily be beat out in ST'ing, but I'm optimistic about him.

I doubt it. Many pitchers stick around for longer than that, and many never had as good a record as Barnes beforehand. Diekman (1.49 WHIP) pitched 38 inning for us, this year and was not DFA'd. Sawamura (1.42) pitched over 50 innings. Brasier (1.32 in 58 IP) has sucked for years and costs next to nothing. Roblesd (1.58) almost lasted 26 IP. In 2021, Andries s*** the bed for 37 IP (1.77 WHIP.) I'm not sure why DHern (1.73 0ver keeps getting the call- over 85 IP!!!
