  1. I think losing him for just a comp pick is worst. Also, I'm not so sure about the clubhouse issue. The Astros let Springer and Correa go, because they would "not pay market value," and fans love the team. Winning makes fans get over this type of thing. I put $300M/12, but what if it's $360M/12 needed to keep him? How far can we go just to make a point to fans that we will keep our stars? If JH continues to reset every few years, a contract like that will really limit what the team can for over the next 12 years.
  2. What are the chances we get none of these 4? What are the chances we get none from... Judge Nimmo Turner Correa Bogey Swanson I'd say close to 50-50 we get none.
  3. For argument's sake, what is worse? Losing Devers (via trade) Losing Devers (via free agency w comp pick) Signing Devers to $300M/12
  4. I think Nimmo can be had for 5 yrs at higher pay.
  5. Is Correa worth what he'll get? He has an injury history. He's had multiple seasons under .780. His defense dipped, this year.
  6. Correa seems so much better, too, so that does look like a better choice, but if we miss out on him, I can't see going light in RF, too. Swanson + Gallo loses one pick (we gain one losing Bogey) If we don't sign Turner, Correa, Bogey or Swanson as MLBTR suggests, don't we have to go larger in RF? Like Nimmo?
  7. Certainly, a big reason for that choice.
  8. Exactly. Soler to a lesser extent.
  9. James Click, GM of the Astros parts ways with team. Wow! You win a WS and get offered a crappy 1 year deal. Rumor is David Sterns has long been coveted by Jim Crane.
  10. That was sooooo long ago!
  11. I doubt it happens, but I'm thinking... Swanson & Nimmo or Correa & Gallo
  12. Story was hurt, and when he played, he did better than Baez and even Semien. 2022 OPS .772 Seager (83 RBI in 663 PAs) .770 Suzuki (46 RBI in 446 PAs) .737 Story (66 RBI in 396 PAs) .733 Semien (83 RBI in 724 PAs) .671 Baez (67 RBI in 590 PAs)
  13. That's why I say... Devers Forevers with no qualifiers.
  14. I'd go $110/5, but I doubt that gets him away from the Mets. $115 or 120/5 might, or $132/6. I'm thinking Nimmo or Swanson might be the best we can expect for everyday player signings. I'd be happy with both, but look what happened with Baez & Suzuki, last year.
  15. Report: Dodgers close to re-signing Kershaw- no surprise.
  16. That's how I see it. We need to make 2-3 major additions (FA or trade), and 3-4 moderate ones- like Gallo or Beni for the OF, and a couple solid but maybe not spectacular RP'ers.
  17. You guys are starting to change my views on Gallo. I'm not sure that's a good thing.
  18. It might take $24M x 6 to get Nimmo, but I don't think he's worth it. I really don't want Dugo in RF, but I like Beni's OBP. I'd rather have Beni at $12M/per + 2 RP'ers at $6M per over Nimmo at $24M/per. Yes.
  19. That's exactly what that suggested trade was meant to highlight. Look for teams that want to cut salary, and get them to add a useful piece for less return. Kinda like Ottavino and German for nothing, but on steroids.
  20. No, but 26 man, yes.
  21. Soler was a salary dump to lessen the return needed, but he might allow Dugo to move to RF and give us some corner OF depth or even a starter- best case scenario. Cooper ust replaces Hosmer's roster slot. Maybe a change of scenery helps him.
  22. Indeed. I'd be very happy, as long as they weren't gross overpays.
  23. In theory, we could go ... $35M x 2 Verlander $30M x 9 Correa $24M x 6 Nimmo $6M x 3 Fulmer Of course, we won't. I doubt we even get one of those top 3 listed.
  24. Well said, but almost every major FA signing looks like or turns into an overpay or major overpay after year 2 or 3. We have to bite the bullet, at some point, and hope we choose the right guy to pounce on. I'm wondering if contracts like the Story one is as high and long as we go. No more $210/7 deals like Price's. It's actually not a bad strategy, and it is working for the Astros, but the Astros have had a solid farm for over 5 years. We are just (maybe) coming to a point of expecting significant farm infusions, yearly..
  25. A team never paying lux tax might have taken him, if it counted $6M on the tax line, but only min salary on the actual budget.
