  1. I have never said it's not okay to cry. I "cried" over losing Lester and was the poster who was okay giving Betts $400M/14, at one point. Again, my point was not to disparage crying or emotional complaining, although the worst crybabies among us can get annoying, but to point out that, in my opinion, some of our not-so-good decisions have been at least partially influenced by the fear of stirring them up, which is part of doing business and not necessarily unjustified, either. I get the point about us not being as competitive had we traded Bogey a year or two ago. It's a valid point. It was also a business choice. I'm not saying being better going forward had we traded Bogey a year or two ago vs being better in 2022 or 2021 and 2022 would have been the best choice, but I do think we'd be better off now, had we done it (assuming we don't re-sign him.) If anyone wants to say Red or I'm crying about us not trading Bogey earlier, they are free to do so, and they'd have proper standing. (I don't think I've gone on and on and on about it, and I can understand why we didn't do it and recognize not trading him has serious merit, too.)
  2. I like Haniger, but we need to target durable and dependable players, despite nobody being a sure bet to stay healthy.
  3. Had you written this in the 3rd person, it would have been more fitting. We all know you will vote for yourself, in this imaginary poll, and that's fine. You seem to have two votes, so far. You must feel so proud!
  4. They'd have cried, for sure, whether the reason is justified or not is another issue. My main point was about trading Bogey last winter or the one before and Devers, now. There is very little reason to think fans would not be bawling their eyes out over a Bogey or Devers trade. Some are still crying about Lester.
  5. Speaking of "leftovers."
  6. Deservedly so.
  7. I;m not defending Cordero and some of the others as being prized gets. I'm just pointing out, the prospects may not have been the major part of some of the trades, or that the ML player acquired lessened the value of the prospects we got. JBJ was meant to fill the RF need we had by trading Renfroe. I sure as hell am not noe never did defend that part of the trade. I do agree: we don't get Hamilton and Binelas for Renfroe. The JBJ aspect improved the value of the prospects returned- most likely. (Good point.)
  8. I'm saying maybe (I never said for sure) some moves were not made out of fear of upsetting fans that might show their anger by not renewing or buying season tickets or NESN subscriptions. I call those fans crybabies. Disagree with the terminology- fine, but it has nothing to do with them disagreeing with me. What gets me is that they will now cry because we did not trade players away, when we should have, and it made us worse over the longer term. Even you agreed we should have traded Bogey a year or two back, if we were going to lose him, so you agree we'd be better off, now, had we done that. Why did we not trade him? Answers might include certain weight to some or all of these reasons: 1. We thought we might be able to keep him at a discount or reasonable rate. 2. We thought we might win in 2021 and/or 2022, and he gave us a better chance 3. We did not want to upset a fan base still angry over losing Betts, and some over the Lester loss, long ago. I'm not saying #3 was the major reason, bt I think angry fans played a part in the decisions made.
  9. No, but look at the trades, one by one, hardly any of our best players were traded for just a propsect(s). Betts included the salary dump of half-Price. Beni included Cordero. Renfroe included JBJ. Workman & Hembree: Pivetta Now, that does not mean we should have had no expectations for the many prospects Bloom traded for, and I specifically said the JBJ better have been about the prospects. While Hamilton was just added to the 40, I'm not very optimistic about him or Binelas. I do still like Wong, German and Wallace and have some hope with EValdez, Abreu & Winckowski, but the vast majority of prospects traded for have not risen hopes after we obtained them. Downs Seabold R Hern Hamilton Binelas Koss Potts & Rosario de la Rosa, Valdez & Gambrell Too recent to know? Ferguson Rosier He's done better with Rule 5 and minor league FA signings: Whitlock Kelly Ort
  10. Devers is 25th: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2022&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 He's 28th since 2020. Since 2021 13. Bogey 10.4 14. Betts 10.4 22. Devers 9.1
  11. I'm guessing you missed Houck, Crawford and Wink.
  12. They are crybabies not because they don't think like me. They are crybabies because they wail, weep and bawl every time a move is made that is focused on the future and not instant gratification. Yes, those who disagree with you also whine, cry or whatever you prefer to call it, but the term fits many posters after certain actions are taken or posts are made. If you want to include me as a crybaby or whiner, go ahead.
  13. I'd rather see quality over quantity, finally, and this looks impressive. I might go... Correa 32 Nimmo 20 Senga 17 Taillon 12 Rogers 8 or Estevez + Fulmer (Trade for another pen arm and maybe catcher)
  14. Until we sign someone major, there isn't too much to talk about without rehashing old debates. Here is something to ponder and possibly respond to: If we go back and add all graduated prospects from mid 2021 to today, what would be your rankings? Add: Whitlock, Bello, Houck, Crawford, Wong, Winckowski & Duran Here is my list: 1. Whitlock 2. Mayer 3. Bello 4. Houck 5. Bleis 6. Casas 7. Rafaela 8. Romero 9. Perales 10. Mata 11. Yorke 12. Walter 13. Paulino 14. Anthony 15. Wikelman 16. Wong 17. Valdez 18. Jordan 19. Lugo 20. Hickey 21. Kavadas 22. Crawford 23. Rodriguez-Cruz 24. Murphy 25. Bonaci 26. Abreu 27. Winckowski 28. Kelly 29. German 30. T Ward 31. Coffey 32. Brannon 33. Drohan 34. Wallace 35. Salazar 36. Uberstine 37. Hamilton 38. Binelas 39. J Paez 40. RHern/Koss/Politi/R Fernandez
  15. Yes, some of them before arbs began. They also have let some very key role players go to free agency, including Verlander (Cy Young winner), Brantley and Gurriel, this year, although there is talk they may bring Gurriel back, if Contreras is not signed. Grenke Keuchel Morton Osuna Miley Mchugh
  16. Soxprospects.com comes out with their top 10 list, today. Some questions: 1. How high will Perales rise? (He was slotted 15th in the mid season rankings but is not in the 11-20 list.) 2. Will they drop Yorke much due to his not-so-great season? (He was ranked 5th, mid season and 3rd at the start of '22.) 3. How high will they slot Romero (7th midseason) and Anthony (10th)? This is what I think they will present: 1. Mayer 2. Casas 3. Bleis 4. Rafaela 5. Romero 6. Mata 7. Yorke 8. Walter 9. Perales 10. Anthony I might put Perales higher. Mine might look like this: 1. Mayer 2. Bleis 3. Casas 4. Rafaela 5. Perales 6. Mata 7. Romero 8. Yorke 9. Walter 10. Anthony
  17. There is a team that lets big stars go and still win. The Astros let Springer, Correa and Cole go.
  18. Sounds like I struck a crybaby nerve
  19. That's not my meaning at all. It is meant to describe precisely what many fans would do, if we traded him or him and Nate or JD. There are many of them. I heard them on sports talk radio and am sure they are a majority. They'd be crying and cancelling their season tickets and NESN subscriptions by the boatloads.
  20. Making a WS run would mean we probably brought B ogey back or one of the other bid 3 SSs or someone like Judge or deGrom. In theory, I'd take the a strong WS run a comp pick and over what we could get for him, this winter. I'm not seeing a WS run in 2023, unless we do some serious upgrading at 2-3 positions while trying to stay close to even at SS, C and DH.
  21. The return would still likely beat the comp pick value, plus we'd have reset the tax, which has real value, too. Again, I was speaking more to the trading 2-3 years ago, if you don't value him like you think other GMs do.
  22. No, they put a patch over an eye, then file insurance claims after running into each other.
  23. It might read: "Died Trying to Please Talksox Bashers"
  24. They also tried to get something in return for Betts and were able to dump half-price Price along the way. If they get just 2 comp picks for Bogey and Raffy, something is seriously wrong at the top,
  25. So, they valued that more than what they could have gotten for Bogey? I also mentioned trading him a year or two ago. Same answer, I guess.
