  1. It might take $360M/12 minimum or $340/10.
  2. I think Wacha, Hill and Strahm were pretty close to what Schwarber's value, and they cost $5M less. If Yoshida works out, I'm not going to cry over a FA choosing another team. Bloom did not DFA him. He had 8 slots to fill and $60M. He chose 2B not LF/1B/DH to spend the most on. I really likes Schwarber and was happy Bloom traded scraps for him. Had we not had JD, I'd have been more upset we didn't try to outbid DD for his services. Right now, it doesn't bother me at all.
  3. Any chance we sign 2 from the top 23 still left? More likely 1 plus Kluber, 1 plus Conforto/Gallo or 1 plus Andrus.
  4. Only Downs is ML ready, so good luck with that. Mayer may be ready by 2024, so there is hope, then, but can Sox Nation wait that long? I'm thinking JH is thinking a "big splash" is needed. Trade? Correa? Rodon? Not sure Swanson and Nate meet that threshold.
  5. I think the idea was to trade JD and cash, but still, if we paid $12M of his deal, then add that to what Schwarber got.
  6. LOL! See previous post.
  7. It was you!
  8. No. I meant what I said. I disliked what happened to Lester, but their plan worked, despite them being wrong about signing any SP'er over 30 to a long term deal. They tweaked that idea and got Price. Lester did better after 30, but the plan worked. DD's plan worked in large part because Bloo, err, I mean Ben, set the table for him by building up prospect trade value.
  9. He should play LF. We are linked to catcher Murphy rumors. The only bats at SS left are Correa and Swanson- neither are likely coming here, unless JH snaps out of this whatever it is. RF seems like the best bet, but we'd have to trade or hope Gallo or Conforto come to life in '23.
  10. Who wrote this, earlier? To me Bloom is desperate. Jansen is nothing but a free falling in my book. Horrible signing. It’s still early and Hopefully I’m wrong but this team is not shaping well —thus far.
  11. Fair enough, but we don't do any better, this year with that swap, and the money total was still more for Schwarbs.
  12. I repeat, Bloom was told to make the one year offer.
  13. We did win a ring after Lester. If that's the whole M.O., sign me up.
  14. Story got $140M/4. I was fine with $160M/6 for Bogey and even said I'd go to $170M/6 or even $180/7. I'm not agreeing with Sox management for not offering that. I'm saying I don't think they felt he was worth even that, back before salaries took off.
  15. Now, I will say, I'm sure discussions took place that involved Bloom, and if it was a close call and Bloom was adamant about not extending him, then he would deserve some criticism, if you think Bogey was worth signing at about $160M/6, a year ago. We will probably never know, but we do know Bloom did not have the final say on this, the Betts deal and the Story signing, too. Hell, they may have even had to okay the Jansen and martin deals.
  16. Strahm signs with Phillies for $15M/2. That was a good signing by Bloom, last winter, but someone will think it was so bad he "let him walk." We got him for $3M/1. DD paid $15M/2. Hurray for DD!!!!
  17. LOL. People can blame Bloom all they want on Bogey, but this was what JH & Co. wanted, or else he's still a Red Sox.
  18. That could be a real option. Segura might take a 1-2 year deal, as well. Adam Frazier is 30 and has never had a negative bWAR.
  19. Because he's young and cost controlled, he has more value. I'm not handing him away. I'm suggesting we add more value and get someone much better with less control or slightly better with the same control due to the value added by other players included in the trade. Another possibility is to get a better pitcher who has a higher salary, which we can absorb. I like Houck, a lot. Suggesting a trade does not always mean I value him less than others do- not that you said that.
  20. So, you think he talked JH & Co. out of extending Bogey?
  21. Isn't that who we were talking about, or am I totally lost on this one?
  22. I'm all in on Devers Forevers, but if they are going to let him walk, trade him, this winter. They may be waiting to extend him, so the tax hit starts, next season. I'm thinking they have to know the public relations hit they'd take by losing him, even by trade. I really have to think they know another big hit could be very damaging to their bank account success. I think they extend him, but my hopes are lessening.
  23. Is it a lie to think they "wanted Bogey," but only at their price? Again, I'm not defending the Sox top brass. I agree with you on them not ever wanting to pay Bogey what they knew he'd get, but that is technically not the same as not "wanting him." Yes, they played games with the media and fans. They did not fool anybody- same with Lester, although I think their final and late offer fooled some fans into thinking they made an effort (not me.) I think the picture is becoming clearer: Bloom is not "in over his head," the marionette strings are above his head. He has done a fine job shielding upper management from criticism, until now.
  24. Could Houck be a trade candidate, or does his health have to be roven, before any trade is made? Maybe package Houck with any of the 3-Ds: Downs, Duran and Dalbec. If we can get a better pitcher by adding players or prospects and making room on the 40 for Yoshida and Jansen, maybe it can happen, soon.
  25. I see why you did not want to divulge. Glad he's a Met.
