  1. We took the time to learn the names Tanaka and Matsui. His name is Masataka Yoshida. You will come to remember his name. Our LF is better. Our CF is better. Or RF is better. Our DH could easily be about the same. Our 1B is way better. Our pen, which you failed to mention, is better even when subtracting Whitlock and Strahm. Our 2B should be better with improved health. 3B should be about the same. We have $40M left to try and make up for the loss of Bogey and Nate. You have your view. I have mine. Neither of us sees the full 2023 team.
  2. I like Brantley as a DH and back up LF'er, but we need a big RH'd bat.
  3. It seemed many were happy the day before Bogey departed, and really, at that time, how many felt we were going to sign him after paying Yoshida?
  4. I think our chances at landing Swanson are less than 1%- Correa less than .05%. Anrus or Segura maybe 30-33%?
  5. Heaney signs with Rangers: $12M w $5M in incentives and option for $13M in '24 w $500K buyout. Another player that the Sox showed "interest" in is gone. This one, I'm fine with him going elsewhere.
  6. I totally understand. I like the bigger percent of years falling in primes. Swanson won't be getting 11 years nor $25M+ AAV. It's close, to me, but we'll see what Swanson gets. My guess is we go Andrus or sign Segura to play 2B and move Story to SS for one year.
  7. The bigger question is, should they dole out $360M/12?
  8. Lots of assumptions. It's pretty much a given, though, that Boras felt he "could get no more money than this." I agree on that.
  9. No, 9th best at SS is not great, but he's also not making Seager, Turner, Bogey and soon-to-be Correa money, either.
  10. If you go $390/13, just make it an even $400M/14.
  11. He did get Kimbrel and some that did not work out well, namely Carson Smith and Tyler Thornburg.
  12. Yes, you were correct. A lot has changed since last year, but $90M x 4 was a low ball then, and looks horrific, now. Even $160/6 is being lambasted.
  13. Good point. I stand corrected, actually I'm sitting.
  14. $350/10 or $375/12
  15. Swanson was number one on defense according to fangraphs, last year. #8 in 2021 #7 in 2020 #2 from 2020-2022. Do you now pooh-pooh defensive metrics? He's 9th on offense at SS- just behind Lindor from '20-'22. He's durable- leading MLB in games played in 2021 and 2022.
  16. If JH did not allow Bloom to extend Bogey, how is that "excuse" making? How is it Bloom's fault Bogey is gone? Yes, he wants Bloom to get us out of last place, and he better do it, this winter. If he is given the $40M remining under the tax line, it's my expectation, too.
  17. Since they usually under project totals, they did pretty good on the Sox.
  18. DD did stay under the budget in 2017, right after going over for 2 years. It sure looked like the 2019 budget was gearing towards a 2020 reset. I doubt DD wanted to let Kimbrel and Kelly go without replacing them.
  19. So much lovin' oozing out of all your posts on Bloom.
  20. They almost always under guess, so that may be encouraging, but it's hard enough to predict players with MLB track records. This is pretty much a shot in the dark.
  21. So, you think JH wanted Bogey signed, and Bloom refused. Got it. It's not an excuse. It is what it is. If you think Bloom talked JH into not signing Bogey, fine, but I'm wondering why anyone might think that. BTW, this is Bloom's legacy winter. He had $90M to spend, and he's got $40M left.
  22. It's $90M. Zips projects .305 20 76 .372 OBP .489 SLG .861 OPS Just 62 Ks 2.8 WAR
  23. He is pulling off what top brass wants with precision. He's not botching their plan, he's fulfilling it, expertly. Maybe we should have hopes he botched their plan and accidently signing Bogey, while they weren't paying attention.
  24. We paid Price and JD and won in 2018, after letting Lester go. We paid Story and Yashido pretty good money. We paid Jansen more than we've ever paid a closer. That was what half the "wanna be GMs" were screaming about all 2022. Let's see who else we sign and how well we do, before we write off the next 3 years.
  25. Before the FA market prices soured, I thought $160/6 was pretty fair. I hate to see him go. We could have offered him that, long ago, and he'd be here, but we didn't. I don't think the Sox felt he was worth a penny more. Yes, that made it "impossible."
