  1. 3-4 of our pitchers were not available do to use in the last game or two.
  2. It's been a fun team to watch, unless you go into each game with a gripe on your mind.
  3. Pitching and hitting do matter more than defense, but defense has cost us many games. I think it's safe to say it's between 10 and 20. The fact that we won more games with Kike playing does not mean many of the losses were on him, while few of the wins were because of something he did. Many games we have lost on defensive mistakes not called errors. I'm not sure why you seem to want to deny that happening way too often and by enough times over the norm to put us in a playoff slot, right now. Again, saying we should trade someone does not mean I dislike Dugo or value him less than you do. I've said he is one of our best 2 defensive OF'ers, His bat has been a plus. His fWAR reflects that, but it also means other GMs will give us something of value in retrun- perhaps at a position of greater need, where we don't have a Rafaela and Abreu pounding on the door.
  4. When you start off with a 40 man roster with 20 holes and a massive budget cut, the dumpster bin is your "hood." Each year, the winter budget grew a little bit, and there were less and less holes to fil, but even last winter's significant spending spree had to be used on too many slots to avoid not filling some with dumpster dives. Speading out the money, like $10M/1 for a SP'er doesn't work, either.
  5. Looks like Murphy's earlier play was a mirage.
  6. They should not will. Go ahead and bring back Stanton, LeMahieu, Rizzo, Torres, Kahlne, Trivino and the pitchers who dropped off, this year. Payoff the $8M Donaldson buy out. Spend on the next Rodon. Good luck.
  7. Dalbec is 4 for 4 with a homer, triple and 2 singles. (.971) Rafaela is 1-4 with a homer and BB. (.993) Chang is 2-4 w HR and BB (.942) Scott is 1-3 w 2BB (.948) Kavadas cleared the bases with a 2B. 1-3 w BB. Walter had a good day. 7IP, 5H, 1ER, 1BB, 6K WOO up 12-1 in the 8th. POR won game one 5-1 Wikelman 5IP, 2H, 1ER, 2BB, 6K Yorke 2-4 Sikes homered Bonaci & Meidroth 1-3 w BB Rosier 1-1 w BB & HBP GRE up early as Campbell is 2 for 2.
  8. Deep hole to dig out of, but the bats need to wake up.
  9. My bad. Thanks for pointing this out.
  10. We need innings from Houck, today, but that third time through the line-up issue looms large over the team's head. Let's see, if he can start turning those bad numbers towards the right direction.
  11. Agreed, but thinking Mookie turned down $300M did make him seem a bit selfish, to some, and goes against the idea that he really wanted to stay in Boston. He ended up getting close to that in LA. Had he came right out, long ago, and said the Sox never offered that, the narrative would have shifted, IMO.
  12. I don't think we should extend Dugo, unless he takes a friendly deal, and why should he? I agree: don't dick around, just trade him. Not hand him away. We should get some real value back.
  13. It's a good point, but eventually a hot player starts slumping, and then you give the other guy his chance. I know, it's hard to bench a $90M guy for a rookie, but I was just talking about one game, and at some point, Yoshida could have been used as a PH'er.
  14. True, but you know he heard about the story of that $300M offer, long ago, and it put him in a somewhat bad light for years.
  15. Yet, we lost so many fan faves like Bogey, JD and Nate. It's amazing how even a mildly winning season can change a fan's outlook.
  16. He failed to run out grounders and showed up late to the park. How is that something you don't question?
  17. 20 games over .500 may not really be a big exaggeration. It's just 12 more than what we have, now..
  18. Of course. He's not sitting Duvall or Dugo (the other choices,) so he made the choice: a slumping player (Masa) over the red hot one (Abreu). He's done this several times, this year. (BTW, it doesn't mean I think Cora is a bad manager.)
  19. Can't you apply that to JH and on an even bigger scale? JH is mega rich, so what's the difference between $365 and 300 to a guy like JH? I'd say it means much less to him and the legacy he leaves his children and their children than to Betts.
  20. I'm pretty sure our 1B coach said and did what every 1B coach does in these situations. That's why his name never came up in the talk about the play. I'm sure he told Wong, "There's two outs. Run on contact." The rest was up to Wong and maybe the 3B coach. Did he, or should he have added, "but be careful and don't get thrown out at 2B, because you have a slow runner in front of him?" 1. Maybe he said it. 2. I'm not sure that needs to be said, everytime it comes up. 3. Said or not, it was 100% Wong's fault.
  21. You have a ton of holes to fill, while also hoping many of your younger and injured players come back and play and or improve. Sounds all too familiar. IMO, you have to many holes to not call it a total make-over. (Of course, "total" never really means all 26 and 40 players turned over.)
  22. I don't see correcting a falso rumor, assuming it is, as being wrong, either. The timing seems weird.
  23. Agreed. The weird thing is, our team BA is .266, but it's .281 with RISP. That seems to be not true, to me. I also wonder if we lead the league in hits with RISP that do not produce actual runs.
  24. I remember thinking Casas was going to be a big upgrade over Dalbec, Hosmer & Co, on both O and D. We got the O, but the D has been very disappointing. I'm not saying we will be let down by Rafaela or Abreu's D, but there is a chance their O suffers through year 1. I like our OF outlook, even without D & D. Keeping Duran in LF is a must. Refsnyder, too, as much as possible. A few games here and there, okay. I still think we trade Dugo but add some veteran OF depth.
