  1. I'd keep Reyes, too, but the plan is to start with Story playing SS, every other day, for a while, and Chang is the superior defensive SS, right now. I'd still DFA Chang. Second choice: put off the choice by demoting Urias until Sept call-ups.
  2. Who gets DFA'd to make room for Story on the 40? Will it me a middle infielder? Reyes or Chang? (Both have no options remaining.) or Demote Urias (1 option left) and DFA someone like Graza or Jacques? When Sale comes up (Friday?) who gets DFA'd? Garza? Jacques? Llovera? When Whitlock returns, one from the above list (or Lamet) should be demoted. No need for a DFA. Who knows when Houck returns?
  3. Yes, but it does not have to be a MI'er. We'll need another DFA for Sale coming off the 60, too.
  4. Wild Card Race 68-46 TBR 64-49 HOU 64-50 TOR 60-52 SEA -3.0 58-54 BOS -5.0 58-55 NYY -5.5 56-57 LAA -7.5 We are no longer in last place, which seems to be really important to some. (I will say, finishing ahead of the Yanks is important.) IMO, we need to go 7-2 in the next 9- but maybe 6-3 can get us on a roll.
  5. .752 last 12 games .816 last 19 games .728 last 27 games There are worse hitters in these selected time frames.
  6. He's a FA, this winter.
  7. They can't send Reyes down. He has no options. It's DFA him or Chang or demote Urias, who does have options. Those are the choices.
  8. I'm not sure he'd do well. It's just a gut feeling, but there sure is a chance he'd be exposed. His D can only carry him so far. He'd have to hit, pretty quickly, to stay around. I look forward to that test.
  9. You'd think all some might have wanted was just not to sell off. They knew Story, Sale, Whitlock and Hocuk were returning, and if they just played .500 from the point you mentioned, this site would not be all lit up.
  10. They could keep 'em all by demoting Urias to Woo. All the others need to be DFA'd.
  11. Pablo trying very hard to not get DFA'd, tomorrow.
  12. They were hitting him hard, with many right at people. I know you could care less about the next games, but Bello is probably due for 9 more starts and may already be nearing this IP and pitch limits on the season.
  13. Nice hindsight call. BTW, most IP in a season, career: 117.2 in 2019 95.1 in 2021 He's up to 108.2, after tonight with a few more starts to go...maybe 8-9 more.
  14. Are you serious? He's been in shutdown mode, almost the whole year.
  15. Even the dependables are catching the bug.
  16. Jansen has gone back-to-back days, 5 times, including twice in a DH'er.
  17. LOL, 10 x 0 and 100 x 0 are the same.
  18. I'd have done that deal. That's not what this is about. You come back after every losing stretch and gloat about a deal that would have been bad for us, and then call us names for not patting you on the back. Next, you'll say the Bagwell trade was great.
  19. That's not saying much.
  20. MIN, NYM, PHI, that's what you get in a watered down league.
  21. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28724129/red-sox-owner-john-henry-says-mookie-betts-trade-was-strategic-not-financial-move Kennedy said it would be difficult for Boston to keep both Betts and J.D. Martinez, who had an opt-out in his contract after 2019 for the 2020 season. Henry: "In today's game, there's a cost to losing a great player in free agency, one that cannot nearly be made up by the draft pick given," Henry said. "We've seen examples of this recently. We at the Red Sox will remember this as one of the toughest, one of the most difficult decisions we've ever had to make. ... We felt we could not sit on our hands and lose him this offseason without getting value in return to help us on our path forward. We carefully considered the alternative over the last year and made a decision when this opportunity presented itself to acquire substantial young talent for the years ahead." When asked if there was anything the team could have done to prevent the circumstances that led to the Betts trade, Henry kept his answer short. "Yes," Henry said. "We could've signed him to a long-term contract, but short of that, I'm not sure what the answer is." Boston made offers to Betts over three different offseasons. The last major offer was for 10 years and $300 million, which Betts reportedly countered by asking for 12 years and $420 million. "We made legitimate offers over three offseasons," Henry said. "We made it clear to Mookie and I made it personally clear, one-on-one, that we wanted to see him in a Red Sox uniform for the rest of his career if possible." ...Henry on multiple occasions made a point to compare the trade of Betts to the 2004 midseason trade of Nomar Garciaparra.,, "I know it's difficult and disappointing," Henry said. "Some of you no doubt felt the same way in 2004 when we traded Nomar, who like Mookie, was a hugely popular homegrown player. All of us in the organization hoped that we would never have to go through something like that again, but most clubs face similar dilemmas from time to time. I understand there's probably little I can say that will change how you feel about this, but it's my responsibility to try." "Today's players spend years in the minors and major leagues earning the right to be paid in a free market, earning the right to make choices. They made significant sacrifices to get there, and they deserve what they receive," Henry said. "Clubs also have choices to make in this economic system. It's a system that has a few imbalances as do all economic systems, but it's a system overall that has led to labor peace and an amazing market for our best players. It's not the system's fault that the Red Sox ended up in this position. We were faced with a difficult choice." Yup, this sounds like Bloom had to talk Henry into trading Betts.

  23. I'd love to see him, tomorrow, but I trust the Sox to know when the time is right. Tuesday: Story Friday: Sale ???: Whitlock ???: Houck
