It was so minor, it is hardly worth mentioning. We gave up Jay Groome, who would not have been protected on rule 5, anyway. We also got back Corey Rosier, who looks better than Groome, plus Max Ferguson, a guy who stole about 80 bases, last year. Groome did not pitch 1 inning, this year.

Okay. It wasn't really a question you asked, and I'm not sure his comment was directed to your statement, but I think it was a fair response to you saying we have been spending on pitching. You said: And the Sox were passing Price until this year. In fact, the Sale/Price/Eovaldi combo was costing the Sox $58mill in AAV through the end of the 2022 season. And people say we didn’t spend on pitching… He said, later in the discussion, with other comments being made in between: It's not just about spending, but who you spend it on. Bloom spent on starting pitching. But he spent it on the wrong guys. I'm not getting why you are asking who "the right guy" is or was. He's not saying there was one or wasn't one. I think Nate was a pretty good extension, despite missing time and not being sharp all 4 years. To me, Nate and Porcello were good signings. Lackey worked okay. Shorter one? Wacha & Hill.

Some close losses, so it's not like they look to have totally given up. They seem to have forgotten how to take advantage of other team's gifts, get key hit, or lock down the opps, when we have a late lead. -
Bloom kissed the next guy's ass is more like it.

It seems he might have been canned for not trading vets for prospects not vice versa.

He said, Bloom spent on starting pitching. But he spent it on the wrong guys. He never said there were "right guys" or we didn't spend, and I think we was talking about under Bloom.

Domers with a comfortable win over CMichigan Hartman 16-26 no ints, 3 TDs and 330 yards (13 TDs and 0 INTs on year) Estime rushed for 176 yards on just 20 carries (532 yrds/63 carries 2023) #3 FSU struggles to beat BC and was out yardaged. #1 GA and #10 ALA are in tight games, as we speak.

Over the long haul, Rafaela should win more games with his D than lose some, but our D has been a triple freaking disaster, this year. It's never been worse, IMO. It has cost us at least 5-6 games, and I'd guess 7-9.

Much of Ben's "legacy" was traded away, and many of them did not amount to much, but we did get a lot of return value for them. (Moncada, Kopech...) I don't see any Devers, yet, but Bloom has left some with pretty high potential as long as a pretty long list of decent foundational players and role players. Schreiber is not a closer, but he has been one of our best RP'ers since 2022. His 2.0 fWAR ranks 27th in MLB among RP'ers with 100+ PAs since 2022. 23rd in xFIP 24th in WHIP at 1.10 19th in ERA-

Are you saying we could have/should have offered so much more that he'd have accepted without the opt out? How much of a field day would the Sox fans and media and posters, here have had when ERod went home on leave, last year? He sure looks like a keeper, now. Again, I was talking about the decline of the vets Bloom took over as being the same or worse than the decline under DD in 2019. Who we kept, didn't keep or added is a separate issue.

In terms of ERA, this would be a career year, but Martin has been excellent for many years, and has had better years using other statts better suited for RP'ers. That says a lot, because it's hard to imagine doing better than he has, this year.

I'm not disagreeing. My point was about the excuse made for 2019 was the same if not worse for 2020 and beyond. BTW, I'm not sure extending ERod would be viewed as a clear plus, especially if we gave the opt out, too.

I think his point was "none." I'd argue Wacha and Hill were good values, and Paxton came close to earning $10M/2. The Pivetta trade was fine. RP'er were better: Strahm, Jansen, Martin and some scrubs worked out.

$6.5 Perez $5.5 Perez $10M Richards $7M Wacha $5M Hill $10M/2 Paxton $10M Kluber You get what you pay for, and he could have spent more on Pitching than O. One could argue Bloom got about the right production for that money- maybe a little less.

Good point, but look what DD spent on Sale, Bogey and Nate compared to what Bloom spent for 2020. I'm guessing DD could have convinced JH to pay Betts and not Sale + Nate, plus the cost of Betts was probably less had we tried after 2016, 2017 or even 2018.

So, no blame at all to DD, who had 4 years to do it. Sounds like a lame excuse defending DD. Bloom had a few months and no budget. He spent less in the 2019-2020 winter that just 1 year of Betts on an arb deal. Not an excuse- just the facts.

Offerman had a .385 OBP with KCR before coming to BOS.
