  1. MLB.com reranked their top 100: 11 Mayer 37 Anthony 78 Rafaela 88 Teal
  2. How about Yoshida and Turner?
  3. I cried when he left and after we traded Burleson.
  4. Why should I care, if you think the word "crying" is not a good choice of words? More to the point, why do you care? (Yes, I've admitted crying happens on both sides of the issues and that I cry about things, too.)
  5. Several, here, questioned the signing of old fogies like Martin & Jansen.
  6. All 3 should be in the pen, but right now, we can't do that. BTW, Crawford had 144 IP back in 2018 in the minors. I think he can handle it.
  7. That might be related, but is hard to prove. I can't help but imagine our pen with Jansen, Martin, Wink and Schreiber as the short inning guys and Whitlock, Houck and Crawford as the long inning guys. To make that happen we'll need a boatload of decent & dependable SP'ers. Unless JH & Co. agrees to spend much more on the rotation, next year or agrees to allow Bloom to trade some top prospects to get one or two, we'll be forced to decide which one(s) start, next year. To me, if I had to choose, I'd start Crawford first, Houck second (with a short leash) and Whitlock never again. Just my take.
  8. Sox 2023 line BA/OBP/SLG/OPS .261/.328/.431/.759 RISP .281/.355/.441/.796 Men On Base .259/.326/.420/.747 Late & Close .266/.363/.426/.789
  9. Agreed, but Story DH'd, last night. The "plan" would have had him playing SS, tonight. I guess with Turner out, Cora saw a chance to give Story a longer breather. I'd have started Refsnyder, as I would vs every lefty. To me, that is the bigger than the Story at DH question. Yoshida is also sitting. I guess the scheduled days off never end.
  10. HOU lost to BAL TOR lost to CLE Great chance for gains, tonight. Gotta win!
  11. Maybe not having many black holes was overblown. Most people tend to think a balanced line-up is better than unbalanced. Maybe that is not the case. It's better to bunch up the hits- not spread them out evenly. Maybe...
  12. Devers, Duran, Duvall, Ref and Reyes have done well, when needed, although these stats may go against "the eye test." OPS Late & Close 1.347 Duvall (.908 High Leverage) 1.064 Reyes (1.018 High Leverage) .967 Turner (.995) .855 Duran (.821) .794 Devers (.922) .762 Casas (.703) (.516 Ref .740) RISP 1.031 Devers 1.006 Turner .964 Reyes .870 Duran .812 Dugo .812 Ref .790 Yoshida .751 Duvall
  13. OPS is one of the most related stats to runs scored, and we are not pretty close in rankings in both: OPS 5. LAA .772 6. STL .761 7. BOS .759 8. CHC .754 9. TOR .749 10. BAL & CIN .743 Runs 5. CHC 582 6. LAA 567 7. CIN 564 8. BAL 562 9. BOS 556 10. HOU 553 We are maybe one 10 run game away from being 7th in both. We are maybe two ten run games from being 6th in both.
  14. He was really good as a RP'er in 2022, as well: 2.75 ERA in 39.1 IP .547 OPS Against is off the charts good 0.788 WHIP
  15. All three are better out of the pen. I'd stick with Kutter as the starter, for now. He has a 3.95 ERA and 3.83 FIP since joining the rotation, so I'm not holding his earlier record as a SP'er so highly. Career Numbers as SP ERA/ OPSA 3.99/.643 Houck (2.68/.570 as RP) 4.76/.791 Whitlock (2.24/.603 as RP) 5.25/.809 Kutter (3.35/.592 as RP) OPSA 1st, 2nd, 3rd PA as SP .504/.715/.944 Houck .667/.916/.946 Kutter .760/.692/1.122 Whitlock OPSA Pitches 1-25, 26-50, 51-75 .474/.650/.833 Houck .666/.590/.831 Whitlock .690/.781/.843 Kutter
  16. I think the hitting will be fine. Not having Turner for a couple nights hurt. I think Story and Duvall will find their stride- hopefully sooner rather than later. Not many teams have 8 hitters over .778. .849 Duran .847 Devers .839 Yoshida .826 Turner .817 Duvall .779 Reyes .778 Verdugo Refsnyder is at .728 but .907 v LHPS.
  17. We are lucky Crawford has done a better job starting than Houck and Whitlock, but yes, adding Houck and Whitlock should be a big plus, especially when you consider they will be ousting Llovera and Barraclough from the 26.
  18. That's not the half of it.
  19. A few too many zeroes.
  20. Story had a great first game. Schreiber has looked like the 2022 Schreiber, since his return.
  21. He is just a suspect.
  22. Then, you would have cried when they did not sign him after a 2019 Cy Young season.
  23. Well, you did call Houston, a city of over 5 million my "small corner."
  24. It's always been my opinion that a healthy Sale was worth close to $145M/4 than $145M/5. I think they built in close to a lost season into the deal. Had Sale looked great in early 2019, he might have gotten $145/4 or $175M/5. Just my take, apparently.
