  1. The Sox have 3 picks in the top 83: 14. 50. 83. But, we do have 6 in the top 133: 115. 4th rounder 132. Comp for Bogey 133. Comp for Nate The draft starts Sunday evening.
  2. In the AL, only OAK & KCR look far enough out of their division race and the WC3 slot. I'm not sure what they have to "sell off." OAK has already sold off many of their most expensive pieces. The CWS are 8.5 behind MIN, who leads the ALC with a 45-43 record (same as the last place Sox.) My guess is they will be sellers. Detroit (-6.0 ALC) could be, too. On the bubble: BOS, SEA, LAA and perhaps TOR, if they tailspin in July. In the NL, WSH and COL should be clear sellers. STL almost certainly will/should be. After that, it might take a bad 3-4 week period for these teams to drop out: PIT 40-47 (-8.5 NLC and -7.5 WC3) CHC 40-46 (-8.0 NLC and -7.0 WC3) SDP 41-46 (-8.5 NLW but -6.5 WC3) NYM 41-46 (-6.5 NLE and -6.5 WC3) My guess is 9 teams will be sellers: OAK COL WSH KCR STL PIT CHC CWS DET
  3. That was 2021.
  4. I disagreed with the role Barnes was give and for how long he stayed in that role, but our pen sucked, last year, and options were few and likely just as bad.
  5. It’s about 40 and 26. We can easily DFA someone other than Reyes, and then since he’s out of options, it becomes a 26 man issue. Like I said, I doubt they even discuss going to 12 pitchers until we are set at SS, and I’m not going to be upset if or when they DFA Reyes, but the SS position has been. Merry go round, and holding Reyes for 2-3 more weeks makes some sense. I see a logjam with so many LF/CF/1B/DHs on the 26, that I think we may trade Duvall. I’d say Kike, but he might not be traceable even if we pay his salary, and he can still play decent 2B, too. Our MI depth looks better with Reyes over Duvall. The problem is that Duvall is still capable of hitting very well and carrying the O for stretches.
  6. 12 of 15 teams are within 8.5 games of winning their division. We are one of the 3. 10 of 15 NL teams are in the same boat. The WC really helps keep teams like us in it, and gives several teams 2ways to make it to the dance, but MLB has really been more balanced than I can ever remember, at this point in a season.
  7. With all out SS issues, I'd try to find a way to keep Reyes. Story may not even play MI, when he eventually returns. Arroyo is an injury waiting to happen. Kike is a mess, but not bad at 2B or CF. We could trade Duvall and make Kike the back-up CF'er or possible Duran platoon. Here is an idea I doubt they even discuss: Keep Reyes until the trade deadline and go with 12 pitchers until August 1st. Our staff should be rested and we can strategically call up Houck, Whitlock, and Schreiber to replace Murphy and the like right after they pitch a game. We will have... 4 days off for the AS break play 6 straight days day off 7/20 play 3 day off 7/24 play 2 day off 7/27 play 6 straight through the deadline day off 8/3 (2 days after the deadline) August 4th: go back to 13 man staff and decide what to do with Reyes, Arroyo and others. (We may have traded someone like Duvall or Kike to make room for everyone.)
  8. We could also just say good bye to Mondesi.
  9. To me, had Cora brought in a top RP'er with a 5 run lead in the 9th, I'd have wondered why.
  10. We should also get McGuire and Reyes back.
  11. Updated Standings +4.0 BAL +1.0 HOU +0.0 NYY (tied for 3rd WC slot) +0.0 TOR (tied for 3rd WC slot) -3.0 BOS -3.5 LAA -4.0 SEA -4.5 CLE Last series before AS Break: OAK @ BOS TOR @ DET CHC @ NYY SEA @ HOU BAL @ MIN LAA @ LAD ATL @ TBR
  12. We will probably go with openers, and Pivetta will go 3-4 in one of the games. I'm hopeful we can get to 5 SP'ers after the break, or shortly after it, and maybe '6, if Sale can get lucky. Bello Paxton Crawford Houck Whitlock Sale
  13. The idea was to try and not have to use Martin. It was worth a try.
  14. Not really. Last year, I was one of the first to give up and advocate for a fire sale, including Bogey. My optimism, this year, is not unfounded.
  15. If all these guys weren't expected back- some very soon, I would not be so unbeat. I may easily be proven wrong, but I see a lot to be optimistic about. I actually think it is odd so many have little faith in guys like Turner, Duvall and Yoshida, just because they never did great for the Sox. We have some real professional hitters and a few up and coming bats starting to show they can hit, too. The pen is as good as it's been for over 5 years. The rotation just needs to get healthy. Story, Chang and even Reyes will improve the D to some extent. Have faith!
  16. What a hitting clinic that was in the 7th. What was it 6 singles in 7 ABs... all textbook going with the pitch and hitting it where they ain't.
  17. Every good manager brings in guys like Garza with a 5 run lead, several times a year.
  18. There once was a note Pure and easy Playin' so free, like a breath rippling by..."
  19. Huge win! Please, please, please... no letdowns playing the A's!
  20. 1,000 injuries? Have faith. When the first stringers return- no more Jacques, Garza, Ort...
  21. BAL is killing NYY 14-0. (Severino got shelled.) SEA is up on HOU 4-1 in the 8th. CWS are up on TOR 3-2 in the 5th, but TOR won game 1. For what it is worth, TBR lost to PHI 3-1.
  22. Turner has been a damn good hitter for many years. He's the kind of player that had he been a Sox player and signed with another team for this season, many on this board would be crying about how "Bloom let him walk." However, when we sign a guy like him, we hear crying about how we let JD walk.
  23. I'd prefer we sign 4 guys at $25M x 5 than 1 at $50M x 10. I might even prefer 6 guys at $16.5M x 5.
  24. Again, no slight on JD. I loved him in a Sox uniform. OPS before tonight: .848 JD .815 Turner OPS since June 7th: .670 JD .927 Turner
  25. On the farm, today... The good news: the Sox DSL BLue team threw a no hitter. The bad news: the Sox DSL Red team was the team that was no hit. FCL Sox won 6-1 over ATL. SAL is winning 7-3 as E R-C went 4 IP, 3H, 1ER, 3BB, 6K Coffey 1-3 w BB Castro 1-2 w 2BB AHern 2-3 w BB GRE is tied 2-2 POR won 7-1 Dobbins 5.2IP, 4H, 1ER, 2BB, 10K Lugo 3-3 Rosier 2-4 w HR McDonough 1-2 w HR & BB Binelas 1-3 w 2B & BB Yorke & Mayer 1-4 Woo is losing 5-1 EValdez is 3-3
