  1. I've been critical of Cora's choices, like resting players too much and vs the wrong handed pitchers and many other times, but not so much singular moves. Kike is still a very good defensive CF'er and 2Bman. I haven't wanted him playing SS for a long time, but really.... who else did we have whan Story, Chang and Reyes were on the IL. Arroyo, EValdez, DHam? I'm not busting a gut defending those 3 SS D. Why are you so for playing a career .498 OPS guy vs lefties?
  2. Story's return might help the D, too, but not by much, if he just replaces Chang at SS. Chang at SS and Story at 2B would greatly improve our MI defense. I do think Kike is a better 2B defender than Arroyo and EValdez.
  3. Nobody likes our D. We may end up missing the playoffs because of it. Some choose to focus on what's wrong with the team and nothing else. Not saying that's you, but you do tend to be hypercritical.
  4. I guess being right so seldomly makes one cling to it.
  5. I'm not so sure about trading Paxton, but I do think we deal Duvall and use Kike as the back-up or platoon CF'er. If we can trade for a longer term SP'er, I'd still keep Paxton, if we have a shot.
  6. I'd certainly like to see Duran get more chances vs lefties, to see if he can turn around his horrible numbers vs them. He's turned around other aspects of his profile, so maybe he can. I'm not sure now is the time to experiment. vs LHPs: .863 Duvall (.774 career) .677 Kike (.813 career) .600 Duran (.498 career) They are all plus OF'ers on D. Cora is so dumb to play the better hitters.
  7. I never said anything close to this. I'm not ripping Duran. He's been great for us- just not vs lefties. Duvall is no chump, and I'd take his bat over Duran's vs a lefty any day of the week. I've been a Kike fan for a long time, but have not been defending his overuse at SS, despite the lack of many other options. I do think Cora is playing him a bit too much, but he does hit lefties better than Duran, and I don't think Arroyo is a clear choice at 2B over Kike. Please stop making up positions I do not hold.
  8. The guy has been a serious hitter going on 10 years, now. I'm not sure why hardly anyone noticed. He's also been a playoff hero a few times. Another player who has proven he can hit is Duvall. He's had more down years than Turner, but the guy can hit. He's hit .774 since 2019. His 650 PA line would be: .232 40 110 I guess the .232 really upsets certain people, even the one who loved Renfroe's 100 rbi season to death.
  9. He was also very good for the second half of 2021. We may not have even made the playoffs without Kike and Dalbec- two guys in a doghouse similar to Duran's, last year.
  10. We all should love Duran's .600 OPS vs LHPs, this year and .498 career. Cora is such a dummy!
  11. Maybe based n the idea that the farm is full of nothing but "suspects," and nothing short of buying winning seasons, every year is a failed plan. Bloom somehow talked JH into massively cutting the budget.
  12. Agreed. The Story signing seems to have started out as an injured/underperforming big signing, but he still has time to redeem himself and Bloom.
  13. One more shout out to Turner, who should not be surprising anyone. The guy had an .866 OPS over his previous 9 seasons. Amazingly, he’s had at least 1 rbi in 7 straight games. We’ve won 6 of those 7 games. Thanks, Bloom.
  14. We all hope we don't get in a situation where selling is the best option.
  15. Surprising Sox OPS Leaders more than halfway through the season... .861 Duran .859 Yoshida .821 Turner .818 Duvall .818 Devers .804 Verdugo .755 Refsnyder .718 Casas .705 Wong .684 EValdez .665 McGuire .657 Arroyo .614 Kike .513 Chang .472 DHam ERA Leaders (8+ IP) 1.63 Martin 1.98 Murphy 2.12 Scheiber 2.51 Bernardino 2.70 Paxton 3.04 Bello 3.12 Walter 3.14 Winckowski 3.34 Jansen 4.11 Crawford 4.58 Sale 4.83 Pivetta 5.05 Houck 5.06 Jacques 5.23 Whitlock 6.11 Garza 6.26 Ort 7.04 Kluber

  19. Sherriff DFA'd to make room for Chang. Ort placed on 15 day IL to make room for Paxton coming off the PAT list. Next up... Houck (demote Taylor) Whitlock (demote Jacques) Reyes (demote Murphy or Walter and go with 12 pitchers for 1-3 weeks) McGuire (DFA Alfaro) (Joely, Bleier, Kluber, CHamilton- who cares?) Story (DFA Reyes)
  20. So, Wade Boggs hates today's game and how announcers speak of exit velocities and trajectories. I pine for the days of when announcers spoke of Margo and ex Red Sox players playing for the Yanks.
  21. It seems so obvious. Some say our management has no plan. Spending like a maniac is no viable, long term plan. We took the right approach. Now, we have to sit back and see if our scouts and choices were good one. You look at this team, now- sure Turner, Yoshida and Dugo are playing big roles, but we'd be nowhere without Bello, Crawford, Wink, Duran, Casas and a few other small contributions from our recent call-ups. It's no coincidence, we've struggled mightily since 2019, when you realize we only had Houck give us anything useful from the farm from mid 2017 (Devers) to this seasons multi-arrivals.
  22. The JD vs Turner watch: .837 JD .818 Turner Since May 12th .835 JD .858 Turner Since June 8th .640 JD .971 Turner SOX DH Position .834 2023 .763 2022 .906 2021 .623 2020 .776 2019 .862 2018
  23. My guess is lefties Casas and Duran will be in tonight's line-up vs the righty, but Cora has been known to surprise us. The bench might be Alfaro, Refsnyder, Arroyo and Duvall. Maybe go with: C Wong, 1B Casas, 2B Kike, SS DHam, 3B Devers, LF Yoshida, CF Duran, RF Dugo, DH Turner.
