  1. Most were "giddy" over Yoshida? LOL. Casas is still a huge plus- just not on D at 1B, right now. Raffy has yet to play 1 year of his extension. Judging too soon, right?
  2. I didn't choose 2 DD players to blame Bloom for. You did.
  3. A month ago, it looked a lot better. Maybe a month from now, the needle will move back to the plus side.
  4. You are misrepresenting Cora's view. Yes, he said the playoffs and making them is the top priority, but making them can be achieved several ways. I get the argument about wanting to win now, but if the owner is not allowing you to spend enough to win, whay play it half way? Go for the future 100%. That's my opinion, and a minority one, for sure. BTW, every time, except maybe 2004, we won a ring, it was due in large part to homegrown players. 2018 was largely about them and trading others. I don't blame Cora for being unhappy or wishing we made more deadline deals as buyers. His job is to win, now. Bloom's job is more complex and is largely driven by what the ownership group sets as the top priorities.
  5. I don't get this. 1Bmen are often paid big bucks- even more than 1Bmen. History: (probably not a complete list) 1B 248/8 Miggy (2016>) 240/10 Pujols (2012>) 225/10 Votto (2014>) 214/9 Fielder (2012>) 162/6 Freeman (2022>) 152/8 Miggy (2008>) 130/5 Goldschmidt (2020>) 3B 260/8 Arenado (2019>) 245/7 Rendon (2020>) 212/10 Riley (2023>) 141/7 J Ramirez (ext 2022>)
  6. Maldanado was being overused and needed rest. I think Abreu and EValdez were not ranked top 8 in their system, when traded, but I'm not sure. I think Abreu was 8th and Valdez 11th. I liked the trade, then and even more now. When combined with us getting McGuire for a salary dump pitcher, the two moves combined, gave us better catching going forward and 2 prospects with legit chances. Win-Loss.
  7. 61 out of 125 career errors at 3B seems very out of whack. The way scoring has changed, recently, I do think he should have more glove errors than 64, but still... I think he'd be a plus 1Bman is a few short weeks or months.
  8. I'm not sure the Astros will sustain this, though. Unlike the Rays, their farm has declined enough whereby the writing is on the wall.
  9. I think the Astros have done a lot of what the Rays do, plus spend more. They do not shy away from losing mega stars, and because they keep winning, there are no crybabies over losing studs morphing the team's strategy and plans.
  10. It's better than playing it halfway and being frustrated in the "here and now" for 5 years and still look like we are 2-3 years from "going all in."
  11. I really wish you stop saying things about me that aren't even close to be true. You have never given up reminding me I said you "hated" Cora. I apologized and have not repeated it. I have never come close to saying, implying or thinking Bloom awesome thing. We all know nothing is a certainty, but the best way to rebuild a team is to attempt to greatly improve the farm system. Another way is spending bigly, but that has failed miserably so often, lately, I'm not sure it's a good plan, at all. Plus, JH has obviously decided to limit spending, so whether fans like it or not, what other path does Bloom have? Yes, spend more on pitching- we all agree, despite that plan having a less than 50% hit rate.
  12. I'm hopeful he gives us more hope.
  13. Does his 1.4 bWAR make you feel better?
  14. But you also keep saying Bloom is responsible for things like having flawed inherited players on the roster
  15. Huh? Bloom inherited Devers and Casas. You have been for trading and not extending those two? I know you disliked the Yoshida signing, and you will never let us forget it.
  16. That has been my contuing point. Nobody ends up happy, so why not just do what is best for the long term success of the team? That does seem to be the number one priority- not the here and now. Just stick to it, and we get there faster.
  17. I was fine seeing Damon go.
  18. It is speculation, but Devers has pretty good footwork and range. His main issue is throwing, so it seems like he would be an immediate upgrade on D over Casas at 1B. Without adding a plus defender at 3B, it would not really be worth it. Moving Casas to DH logjams LF with Yoshida, Duran and Refsnyder all better suited for LF or DH. Playing one in CF makes that important slot worse.
  19. Damon was not bad, but he had a noodle for an arm, and I'm talking macaroni not Fettucini. Bad D at 1B and LF can be overcome, but adding 3B and SS and CF is just too much to ask of your pitchers.
  20. Our two best... Paxton: ERA/FIP 2.73/3.63 First 10 starts 5.50/5.13 Last 7 starts It's not all his fault. he kept us in the race for a while, but this is pretty bad. Our "ace" Bello: 3.04/3.76 First 14 starts 5.03/5.56 Last 7 starts These two need to turn it around, NOW, of we have no hope.
  21. I agree. Those were Cora's biggest mistakes, and neither is hindsight. When we got Reyes, we should have played him FT at SS. I even liked DHam more than Kike. The Kluber call was more difficult, because Sale and Paxton were on the IL, and Houck and Whitlock were either sucking or missing starts, too. Bello wasn't even ready, opening day. Pivetta deserved his demotion, too. It was a choice of lesser evils for the first month or two. Still, anyone but Kluber seemed to be known after 4-6 starts, but he was given 9. .
  22. I think the pool of good players expanded for many of the reasons given, here, and expansion leveled it out. We have not had expansion for a long time. I think the talent level is higher, and the young talent, today is off the charts better.
  23. That seems to be our M.O. We do good for a while, and we start believing, and they fall flat on their face. They do badly, and we come to within a millimeter of giving up, and the rip off a 4 game win streak. (Does this mean we now win 4 straight?)
  24. I think nobody expected Casas to be this bad on D. Some questioned Kike at SS on D, but nobody expected triple bad. It's not about caring. It's about guessing wrongly, like the rest of us, except you, of course.
  25. I am nearly certain, none will be traded or change positions, except one or two (rotation) moving to DH. You didn't answer the question. If you could choose, which one do you trade?
