  1. Those two sure look like gold.
  2. I didn't know that. Thanks.
  3. Story has 4 years left. CC Wong 5 1B Casas 5 2B EValdez 6, Reyes 2 (Urias 2) 3B Devers 10 SS Story 4 DH Yoshida 4 LF Duran 5 (Refsnyder 2) CF Rafaela 6 RF Abreu 6 (Dugo 1) Longer Term C Teel, Scott, Garcia, Hickey, Brannon 1B Dalbec, Jordan, Kavadas 2B Yorke, Romero, Anderson 3B Zanetello, Bonaci SS Mayer, Cespedes, DHam OF Anthony, Bleis, Castro, Paulino
  4. It sure does look like you guys need to do something to appease the God of Health.
  5. I'm hopeful Urias can fill that 2B slot well. In his previous 2 seasons (2021-2022) he put up a 6.3 bWAR. Good defense. Per 650 PAs .244 24 75 with a .766 OPS. I realize you are just listing the longer term guys, but we should be covered at 2B for a couple years, or until Mayer and or Yorke start to squeeze our MI. BTW, I'm liking our foundation.
  6. We have the tied for the 15th best record in MLB- about as mediocre as one can be. (14 better and 14 worse) -2 from MIN 12th -1.5 from AZ 13th -1.0 from MIA 14th Tied with CIN We are 14th in run differential at +18 AZ & MIA have better records but negative run diff's SDP are +61 but are 10 games under .500.
  7. He does look real good, but more time is needed to be sure. We do need to set up 2024 for he and Rafaela to have a chance to win a FT job, or at least share one.
  8. You guys are jinxed.
  9. Well, you did say this... I seem to recall 90% of this board thinking Xander was subpar defensive shortstop Moon himself often said just to sign a defensive shortstop and move Xander to another position. Of course he will say he never said it. I'm focused on 2024, too. I think we can be strong contenders with 3-4 major additions: SP1 SP2 RH'd bat for CF/RF and or LH's RP'er.
  10. Anthony went 3 for 6 with three 2Bs. (.943) Hickey 1-3 w 3 BBs (.824) Teel 1-3 w 3BBs (.912) Jordan 2-5 w 2B (.677) Meidroth 2-3 w 2BBs (.757) Yorke 2-5 w BB (.806) Wikelman brought his ERA down to 2.28, as this game was finished, today after being suspended earlier in the year. GRE lost as Song started and lasted just 0.1 (3BB and a hit- 1 ER)
  11. Story had an ,863 OPS with COL and .823 his last 2 years there. I'm not expecting those numbers, but if he can give us .775-.800, I'd be happy. .750 with that D would be fine, too, as long as he plays 145+ games. I like Urias and Reyes as our 2Bmen and infield utility back-ups. EValdee provides some minor league depth at 2B, but his D limits his value, severely. Rafaela could be our emergency back-up MI'er. DHam, Yorke and Mayer offer some depth from the farm, but some may not be ready for the bigs to start 2024. I'm thinking we try to bring Chang back on a minor league deal.
  12. How many times do batters keep repeating what they've done over the last 2 weeks or 2 months, over and over? Why do so many fans keep thinking that is precisely what will happen, despite being proven wrong as much as being proven right? (Rhetorical questions: no answers needed.)
  13. That's my point. They are different statements, but watching both in action, can you tell the difference?
  14. I'd put a big RH'd hitter before the LH'd RP'er on the list, but adding pitching is never a bad idea. I think we all pretty much agree on needing 2 or more solid SP'ers.
  15. I will not only repeat it, I'll double down. Bogey is not a good defensive SS. Nowhere will you ever find me saying I did not want him to return, or that he was a net negative value. I liked the Story signing, and before I knew of his injury, assumed he'd play SS and Bogey 2B. If they were both on the Sox, now, I'd have the exact same position. I'm not sure where this tirade is coming from.
  16. I can't disagree with anything, except the shift rule change. Do we now need to put an asterisk next to Ted Williams, as he was hurt by the shift and newer guys cannot be?
  17. No problem for JH, unless and until, the product on the field leads to major losses in profits.
  18. His few long term deals, so far, don't look great. I'm not sure upper brass would have allowed more, so I'm not sure we can blame Bloom for so many 1 and 2 year deals, as we rebuilt. I'm hoping we see 3-4 major signings, this winter, Anything less, to me, would be punting to 2025, and would not go over well.
  19. No doubt. Big "if" though, as we do not know Bogey would have accepted $160M/6 of even $200M/6, at any point in his time with the Sox. I agree, though, if it was possible, it would have been better, so far.
  20. Okay, I misread your position. I do see value in holding off on major SP'er signings until the instant we feel a window is open, and not beforehand.
  21. I hear you. Winter major moves: Kluber- stinker Yoshida- not so good, so far Jansen- Bingo Martin- Major bingo! Turner- Bingo Duvall- pretty good, despite the injury Minor moves: Good: Reyes, Beranrdino Meh: Chang, Tapia Bad: Mondesi and the revolving door of about 10 guys at the 7-8 RP'er slots. The winter before 2022: Story- stinker for 2022 and 2023 JBJ- stinker Wacha- good RHill- good Strahm- good Schreiber- good Diekman- bad (see McGuire) Minor moves: Good: Refsnyder, McGuire, Abreu + EValdez Meh: Pham Bad: Robles, Davis
  22. I don't disagree, and maybe the fans would prefer to see Rafaela and not Dugo or Yoshida. My point was about fans wanting to see a win more than anything else, which certainly has some merit, too. BTW, we did start Abreu and EValdez. Today, we are starting Rafaela and Abreu. Knowing Cora, it must have been hard to pencil in Abreu after getting on base 6 times, yesterday. He was due for a rest day. LOL
  23. My point was they were not interested in Scherzer, because they went for building up the foundation BEFORE going for an expensive pitcher. Many were surprised we topped everyone for Price, the next year. They may be surprised we outbid everyone for a top SP'er, this coming winter... or not.
  24. Exponentially, YES!
  25. Wrong, in hindsight. Most of the SP'ers traded for at the deadline have not done what we would have needed to put us in the race, let alone into a WC driver's seat. Yes, at the time, I do think we should have been buyers. Adding Civale would have been a good move for this year and next.
