  1. The pivot did seem weird, but not bad. Maybe we trade Bello for Paredes or Donovan and they view it as Suarez + Paredes/Donovan > Bregman + Bello. You may disagree, but it no longer looks "weird."
  2. Mayer is suspect to me, too, but I think they view him as taking one of the two slots: 3B or 2B. Maybe they platoon Romy with him- maybe not. Like it or not, I think that's the plan. I'm not sure the plan is any worse than starting the season with DHam or E Valdez as a slot holder. (Not that they should be where the bar is set.) It seems simple: trade an OF'er for a 3B/2Bman.
  3. It's more about the $24M/2 and $10.2 AAV x 2 than his lack of hope.
  4. With Masa and an OF'er gone, DH is open for a big RH'd power bat we need- Suarez. Paredes fits the infield need and also adds a good bat. I don't want to trade Abreu: I want to dump Masa and Hicks. Those are the biggest perks of the trades, besides adding two good RH'd bats.
  5. No everyone, yes. Same with Lugo. Everyone did not want Schwarber, either. I might have been the lone Lugo supporter.
  6. No. I like our roster construction, except for one hole needing to be filled (2B/3B.) I wish Bloom did not sign Masa, so that is one slot I feel the "roster construction" was off base (1 out of 40 is not bad.) Okay, two out of 40- add Hicks. I do think we should have traded an OF'er last winter and still think we should, so maybe that counts as a roster tweak I think is called for, but having depth is not "bad construction." I don't see where you think I'm "saying the roster construction is bad," but by all accounts you often overanalyze. 😜
  7. Of course the Mets don't want Masa, but they are one of the few teams that can pay him. They want Duran for the same reason you don't want to trade him. (Note: I don't either, but we have 4 OF'ers and 3 DHs.)
  8. Dumping Hicks saves $12M x 2 ($10M x 2 on AAV.) That helps us afford Suarez. It's more like Abreu for Paredes + Suarez. (I'm not sure I'd do it either.)
  9. That's not answering why. You just repeated your claim.
  10. It wouldn't be "spending," and that was the point in this suggestion. No Masa and Duran pays for Suarez with maybe a couple M in JH's pocket.
  11. It does beat DFA'ing him by $2M. I would not do that either, but I would trade Masa + Sandlin for $8-9M x 2 relief.
  12. Good one! And posters complained about that, too!
  13. And, Sonny Gray or Lugo in 2024.
  14. I think someone would take Masa for nothing in return, if we paid all but $2-4M a year. Brez probably wants to pay less and or think Masa can add value for us as a DH, especially if he follows through on trading from the OF logjam and takes one guy away from the DH mix.
  15. Why? It's widely known STL is still shopping him. We need a 2Bman.
  16. Duran, Masa & Phillips for Baty. Sign E Suarez to DH.
  17. One could name this site, "Who botched it?"
  18. Agreed. The words Duran and secondbase (see how I made the one word?) have never entered Cora's mind at the same time.
  19. You have to wonder how realistic it would be to trade Masa with a prospect to help increase the money saved side of the ledger. Who would that prospect be? According to BTV, Masa's value is 5.6 over 2 years, so about $3M x 2. So, we add Sandlin and get what? $8M x 2 relief? (BTV has Sandlin at 5.5, so by their formula, we'd just get $3M more x 2.) Does $6-8M move the needle for Brez and the budget? If somehow we make a trade with Hicks going away, maybe we could save a couple or three M more, but again, does that change anything? I guess if ESuarez signs late, maybe we can get some sort of bargain, and if Masa is gone, we need not play Suarez at 3B- we could DH him. Masa + Sandlin for $7M relief. Duran, prospect + Hicks for Donovan (saves us about $12M) Sign E Suarez
  20. We all know we aren't adding 2 infielders, and Mayer will be penciled into the 2B or 3B slot. This all came up when talk about 1 big bat not being available, right now, and what if we added two good bats instead- like Paredes and E Suarez. That's not happening.
  21. By all accounts "Where's the botch" will be a hit game show.
  22. why DFA the 2026 Cy Young winner?
  23. Is there some news on Sandoval I missed?
