  1. So, any talk of what we were prepared to offer was yet another lie? (I'm not doubting it was a lie, but if they did have close to $300M to spend, why don't they still have that much for Monty and 1-2 others?)
  2. It will be rinse and repeat. We will sign such hopefuls as Frankie Montas and Giolito, hoping on rebounds, once again. Of course, one year deals will be the goal, again. Maybe we will load up on marginal talent in hopes we can dump some at the deadline.
  3. Once again, any hope of a miracle begins with the longshot hope that Sale starts 29 games with a sub 2.80 ERA.
  4. That might have been the plan since 2019, but they have just snowed us all along. Had they just owned up to it and had fire sales, yearly, we'd be much better situated, right now.
  5. I assume they gave their top offer or framework for a top offer, and told him, they will go no higher.
  6. "Too much" is a relative term. If we actually did offer Yamo $300M, we can afford Monty, but yes, at some point it gets to a level where it will be counterproductive, because we all know the Sox will have a rigid budget, so overpaying one guy means not paying for another or two others.
  7. I guess the question is about "way too much." If this is the new norm, we either have to join the party or find a way to build a winner without mega FA signings. We thought last winter's prices were "overpays." Some look pretty good, now, in light of skyrocketing salaries for the top tier players.
  8. The full throttle optimist view: Sign Monty, Imanaga and Stroman. Trade for Polanco and shoot for a playoff slot. (No top prospects traded.) The full throttle pessimist view: Trade Jansen, Martin, Sale (plus cash,) Pivetta, McGuire and O'Neill (at the deadline) for the best near ML ready prospects we can acquire- hopefully pitchers that fit Breslow's standards. Shoot for a top 5 draft pick and try to build a winner almost exclusively through our own system, because we ain't gettin' nuthin' from free agency. Of course, we will march down the middle and get nowhere, but I'd prefer selling off than continuing as is: half-ass, snow jobbing it.
  9. I hate the Celts, but damn straight!
  10. I am expecting zero from these liars, well actually less than zero. Is Kluber still around? That being said, there are still some 3-4 actions that could take place that makes us relative in 2024. I'm still hopeful these guys will snap out of their lie cycle and actually do them, but I'm not expecting it. I know $325M is a huge gamble, but this kid is 25. From what everyone was saying about Cohen, the Dodgers and others, I expected he'd get more. I'm so pissed about the inaction, I'm feeling we might as well sell, this winter. Trade anybody and everybody not tied down in 2025, of is expected to decline by then. Go for a top 5 draft pick. Keep all top prospects we feel are on the right track. Get the best near MLB ready prospects we can for Jansen, Martin, Pivetta, Sale and a few others. I'm ready to start the Realistic 2025 thread, at any moment. "How Soon Is Now?" looks like 2025, at the earliest. I hope they prove me wrong. I seriously doubt they will even try to.
  11. Better than the Celtics run?
  12. I've said "How Soon Is Now" many, many times. I still have hope, but the optimism is gone.
  13. Man Oh Man, the list is long and strong: Isaiah Campbell Justin Slaten Richard Fitts Greg Weissert Cooper Criswell Jorge Benitez Helcris Olivares Nicholas Judice Noah Song
  14. Not a single Sox fan is going to buy even a hint at a 4 year rebuild. The sham has been exposed. Firing Bloom fooled nobody. Hiring Brez will only work, if they give him the budget and free reign with the farm. I'll believe that, when I see it. The talk mean nothing, anymore. We need to see action, and I'm not talking a singular signing like Monty, either. Plus, even signing him is unlikely and comes up short on what this team needs, this winter. I'll say it again... How Soon Is Now?
  15. Remember that year, way back when, the Dodgers followed up on the winter they signed Betts to an extension and Bauer to $34M a year with this... 162/6 Freeman 60/4 Chris Taylor 21M/1 Trea Turner 17M/1 Bellinger & Kershaw (Plus, they still had half Price and J Turner on the books.) How did 2022 workout for the mighty Dodgers? Pretty amazing though: 2019: Ryu, Kimbrell & extend Kershaw at $31M x3 2020: They pay Betts and pay half Price 2021: Extend Betts, sign Bauer & trade for Scherzer & Trea Turner 2022: Freeman (extend Chris Taylor plus some high arbs) 2023: Syndergaard & JD 2024: Ohtani & Yamo
  16. Yes, and worse, IMO. It seemed like forever they always signed the top guy, year after year, but going into the 2014 season wasn't that long ago. They signed 3 of the top 5 FAs: 2. Tanaka 3. Ellsbury 5. McCann plus #11 Carlos Beltran They also re-signed Kuroda to more than Beltran and Jeter to almost as much. This was while still having ARod, Tex and CC still on the books.
  17. With the Yamo option gone, we are left with precious few options and a few teams willing to go toe-to-toe with us on the bidding. I'm guessing the shame continues another winter (or more,) but here is maybe the best we can expect: A. One from Monty or Snell plus one from Imanaga, Stroman or Giolito. (This is likely a very long shot hope.) B. Monty or Snell plus someone like Clevinger or Montas. C. The 3 SP'er idea: 3 from Imanaga, Stroman, Montas & Gilolito. D. Monty or Snell plus a trade (Burnes? Cease? ____?) Getting shut out from all the best on the market is getting tiring.
  18. I'd have paid $336M/12. It does look like Cohen doesn't get every shiny toy he wants. There are not many options left for the Sox, but there are some. It's looking more and more like a total full throttle sham.
  19. We likely missed on that draft, but #17 is not such a big deal. My idea of trading Yorke was in a package with Mayer for a pitcher. That’s basically why we’ve been saying it’s okay drafting SSs every draft. Trade done for pitching.

  21. You need to move on. You miss more with pitchers.
  22. Yes ! You miss far less on everyday picks.
  23. Look at our top bonus money for IFAs. Not many pitchers there, either.
  24. I totally disagree. Draft the best player at every pick.
