  1. Pomeranz continues to show a lot of grit. not so our lineup.
  2. ain't it? vazquez with his over .400 avg hitting a soft, fieldable, double play ball right back to the pitcher with 2 men on and 1 out.
  3. You put it better than I did. Plus I love the fact that showalter went ape, as did the orioles announcers. i might add that the evidence that it was accidental is entirely circumstantial. the facts are that the orioles have now physically hit two boston batters since machado made the hard slide into pedroia, who missed some games. the fact is that our pitcher, while not known for his great control, has made over 60 pitches without coming anywhere near hitting an orioles player.
  4. i'm sorry, but that pitch was nowhere near the strike zone. I agree it could have been accidental, but I don't see how the umpire could do anything else given the phone session today and all the commentary.
  5. any reports on the injury to hernandez?
  6. damn. Pedroia, beni, and ramirez all hit the ball hard, but nothing dropped in.
  7. 4th or 5th starter--completely agree. On that basis he is likable.
  8. i'm pretty sure pomeranz is going with just 2 pitches tonight--the knuckle curve and the 90 mph fast ball. but he finally got thru the inning scoreless on 34 pitches. I don't like Pomeranz and regularly gripe about his pitching, but I thought that was a pretty gritty inning by him. bad luck on the fluky double, followed by another bonehead error by hernandez, follow by the heart of the very good orioles lineup. pomeranz k'd machado and schoop.
  9. i'm sure everyone else has noticed the same thing i do--that with a man on second the catcher if forced to send a sequence of signals vs. just one to tell the pitcher what to throw. that passed ball seems to be the result of an almost inevitable miscommunication.
  10. zowie! a quick out on a routine pop to beni. Is JBJ out tonight because of his slump?
  11. great K pitch by pomeranz against machado with 2 men on and after machado nailed that knuckle curve but hit it foul.
  12. this team is unbelievable. first JBJ goes on the disabled list because he tripped rounding first. Now hernandez is pulled because he hurt his right arm or elbow doing basically nothing with that arm--but he did manage to get his 6th error with his glove hand
  13. jones fouls off the first 5 pitches, then gets a ball. pomeranz might need 30 pitches to get out of the 1st, which is probably fine with Pomeranz. he doesn't like to get too deep into games.
  14. Great. Pomeranz throws 8 pitches so that rickard can get a fluke double down the right field line.
  15. My thanks again to Jbay for starting last night's thread which clearly got the Sox the win. Yes, I know Sale pitched great and the bats finally did something, but the key was the game thread and the sheer guts of JBay44. If we are starting a win streak, the Sox did to get him out there to throw a first pitch.
  16. Well reasoned, stated. However, I still like what Sale did because to me it was obvious he meant to miss Machado while still sending a message. Plus Sale then struck Machado out and pitched 8 solid innings to--finally, finally--actually get a damn win. Maybe what he did aroused those dormant bats.
  17. nesn guys are saying this was an ugly, ugly game and that it's a trend, not the exception. I agree.
  18. interesting. both teams had 6 hits tonight and 2 earned runs. but the sox had 4 errors and 3 unearned runs. the orioles meanwhile made good play after good play. oh, and we had the egregious baserunning error by hanram.
  19. 4 errors tonight, 4 errors last saturday
  20. pedroia apparently didn't get the word and made a nice grab on the double play.
  21. hernandez now has his 5th error on a very easy play,
  22. fyi, thanks to the insane rules of mlb, Hembree had a perfect outing--4 outs, no runs. he kept his precious era down at 1.29.
  23. this is of course impossible, but sometimes I think this team wants to sabotage the manager.
