  1. The price for being able to challenge is these interminable waits.
  2. What a play by Mookie and Lin!!
  3. Just tuned in so missed a lot. Looks like ERod has been on, but that Orioles reliever just mowed our guys down after the WP. Squandered a good opportunity. 3 straight changeups up to Lin who was completely clueless. Beni almost as bad. But 6-1 after 3 is awfully nice.
  4. Yup. But for Price, a sweep.
  5. No way am I staying up for this one. Love everything so far provided HanRam is OK.
  6. In case jacksonianmarch is still following, he should note that most of the complaints about the tight strike zone came when Grey was pitching.
  7. We need 9 more outs ASAP--6 from them and 3 from us.
  8. Strike zone is as tight as andronicus.
  9. Skillfully done, Nunez! Fantastic placement!
  10. So simple, so effortless. Just wait and poke it to right. Nice.
  11. Credit to Grey--6 straight fast balls and a pop out from Mookie.
  12. Porcello looked pretty good last time out and has an ERA of 2.84. The lineup has scored 3, 10, 8, 14, and 7 runs in their five games at Fenway so far. Could they be coming around? The game thread from last night has a lengthy discussion about whether Cora should have pinch hit with Leon in the 9th--I love it! We were down 10-6 and the Yankees had their monster closer Chapman out there, but doggone if JBJ and Vazquez didn't lead off with a single and a double--men on 2d and 3d and no one out when Leon pinch hit for Holt. Also, Holt got spiked and Austin got plunked--about right.
  13. Gray vs. Porcello, both righties. Cora going with-- Betts RF Benintendi LF Ramirez 1B Martinez DH Devers 3B Nunez 2B Bradley CF Leon C Holt SS
  14. Thanks, Bellhorn. Solid commentary from Abraham and on both incidents. He could well be right that Farrell mishandled it last year and Cora did it right this year.
  15. Meh. I had gone to bed, but looked at the game summary today and saw that Leon made a fly out for out #1. The next two guys were Betts and Devers who both struck out to end the game. Cora could maybe have done better than using Leon, but the real problem with the 9th was two of our best hitters. And the real problem with the game was the pitching. This was simply not our night. That said, it's still kind of neat that there was still another 9th inning rally and that we are arguing about who should have pinch hit. Most of us think the Sox have been kind of lucky thus far, but I think the spark in this year's model is real. Moonslav says guys aren't injured this year. Others say JD is a plus. Whatever the cause, it sure is fun. So far the only real problem I have with this team is my own habit of deserting when things go bad.
  16. Thanks, Bellhorn. How soon I forget.
  17. I'm against plunking hitters, but I also think that slide was intended to injure Holt. Austin and his manager called it a good hard slide and it would appear MLB (the umps) will agree. It was all Holt's fault for actually putting his foot/feet on 2b to get the runner out on a force play. I believe Machado did something exactly like that last year to basically end Pedroia's season if not his career.
  18. All three good points. Cora gets credit for the first and probably DD for the second and third and the addition of JDM.
  19. I said the same thing in the game thread. Because it happened spur of the moment, I can using a short reliever for the 2d, but Johnson or Velazquez should have gone 4 or 5 innings. This is the 2d game of 13 games without a day off for bullpen recovery. On top of that, Cora has a pitching coach who should also be focused on both the rest of the game (8 more innings after Price left) and on the 11 games to follow before a break. I suppose the good news is that a new manager should be allowed to make early mistakes. Let's hope he is learning. I worry a little because he might still be focused on the two bench-clearing episodes and what might be ahead as a result.
  20. MLB at its best. Testerone uber alles.
  21. Why no long reliever when Cora has 2 of them?
  22. As for Cora, I have to wonder why neither Johnson nor Velazquez has been used. Both should be good long relievers and only one can start against the Orioles.
