  1. Utter nonsense. You guys make this stuff up and it's just nonsense. The players are the ones not bringing in runs and tonight that includes the first six guys in the lineup who are hitless with 7 K's.
  2. Zero hits by top six in the Sox order. 4 hits by the bottom third. A slide does not work for Nunez because the catcher had the plate completely blocked. I have rewatched the replay several times. So, me, I blame the top six in the order. Defense has done their job. Price has done his job. Bottom third of the lineup mostly responsible for the one run and a good chance at a second run.
  3. Hanley has to learn that with a man on first and one or no outs, his job is to K.
  4. That's a whole lot of years, so it depends on how much a year.
  5. First reports are usually wrong, and I'm sure this one is. I personally would make that move, but do not see it based on what we are seeing lately. I think Cora actually said JBJ would not be optioned when Pedey came up.
  6. Pretty close to last night except for Vazquez catching and JBJ moving up to 8th. Still no Moreland.
  7. That's too bad, but understandable.
  8. Please don't ignore the math. He has 1107 pitches in 29.6% of the season. Chances are very good he will go over 3400 again this year, and last year that sure looked like too many pitches.
  9. You maybe remember I regularly defended Farrell, but in the end had no quarrel with what happened. Managers are hired to be fired. That said, I like what I've seen of Cora, especially given the circumstances: huge salaries and with them expectations; replacing someone who won one WS and got to the ALDS twice with two 93 win seasons; a bunch of young guys plus veterans; an owner who fired one manager after one season and another after one or two; Hanley Ramirez. Other than that I give Cora a huge amount of slack, we pretty much agree.
  10. Pope Francis grew up in and lived many years in Buenos Aires where they love football and the tango and don't know squat about baseball.
  11. Benintendi Betts Bogaerts Bradley Devers Leon Martinez Pedroia Ramirez If Moreland is in for Ramirez, he bats 8th and Pedroia ninth. If Vasquez catches, he bats 9th. I got this from the Bill James chapter on building lineups.
  12. Is that a deliberate misinterpretation of what I said? Please note the prominent use of the pronoun, "I." I trust Cora's judgment. You may feel differently. Indeed, I have repeatedly pointed out why I have doubts about JBJ's hitting and overall value. I think all that stuff about his incredible, amazing game-saving defense is exaggerated. I would not have started JBJ in the last 3 games. But Cora did, and it paid off in terms of JBJ's hitting because his defense affected none of those games' outcomes. Credit Cora with doing the right thing. I also think it's fun to puncture some of the JBJ hype, which mvp78 did the best, but I very much enjoyed pointing out that the Sox won 3 of the 4 games Mookie didn't play in.
  13. Actually, no. I checked and found that that we won 3 of the 4 games Mookie missed this season. The guy who needs to stay healthy and play every day is JBJ because our winning percentage is higher when he plays than when he doesn't.
  14. So much for, "he plays, they win." If I read those percentages right, the Sox lost one more game in 2016 and again in 2017 when JBJ was in the lineup. More glaring is this little gem. Mookie has missed 4 games this year, and the Sox won 3 of them. Small sample size? You betcha. But so are slasher9's numbers, as mvp78's percentages demonstrate. I do like, however, notin's numbers of 21 hits, 20 runs scored. This does not mean he's dynamite on the basepaths--especially not when he can't remember how many outs there are--but does mean that the bottom third can help a lot just by getting on base because Betts and Beni are next up. Mookie is 2d on the team in rbi's and Beni is tied for 3d. I thought those two singles by JBJ last night were darn important. He scored 1 of our 4 runs and had 2 of our 7 hits. I have my doubts about JBJ, but have almost none about Cora's judgment. If he says JBJ should play, he should.
  15. I'm using espn's Expanded II pitching stats, and they say his 1107 are the most in MLB, not just AL. Yes, he has the extra start, but I think that shows Cora relies on him more. I think Sale will start 33 games this year because the Sox to date have played 48 games, 30% of their schedule. And don't forget that in his first four starts he averaged just 91 pitches. Since then, 106 pitches/game. 22 x 106 = 2332 more pitches. So I do think he is on schedule to throw 3400 pitches again this year. Last year that seemed to be too many.
  16. You could have a point. In 11 starts he has thrown 1107 pitches and leads MLB in that category. Last year he threw 3428 in 32 starts, and 3428 was probably too many. It does not help that he has a thin frame.
  17. Good observation, thought. I don't know about the 50 times, but I definitely like that the battle has been joined even though it's only May. These games do count.
  18. Whoever griped about the Trop is dead on target. The Rays have a winning record on the road and a losing record at the Trop, so they don't much like it either. Who could? All in all, a solid win and timely--the Rangers are up 6-1 in the 6th. Sale remains our ace. But I like that Price and Porcello both looked good last time out. Erod too. I also see some pretty astute decisions by Cora. Biggie was giving JBJ more starts. But I also liked that he let Sale start the 8th and then pulled him at just the right moment. Two solid singles by JBJ--wow. Thanks to Bellhorn for 3 straight--also helps to have Thunder chime in.
  19. Actually, I find your dick comments to be among your most insightful and witty observations--well above your norm.
  20. 32 pitches. Loaded the bases. Some save.
  21. Not exactly the hit parade for the Sox tonight, but two dingers sure went a long way in large part because Sale was terrific--1 ER in 7.2 innings. Now Kimbrel needs to get his save.
  22. Great 2 outs, great move by Cora. Now the bullpen needs to finish.
