  1. I haven't given up, but on talksox I keep reading that ERod is the absolute ace of this pitching staff this year. I think he has that potential, but he just missed an entire season and so far has given up 7 hits and at least a couple hard hit outs to a team whose run scoring is low (19th in MLB).
  2. OK, a groundout, but an rbi. And a man on 2b.
  3. Very good point. ERod looks fantastic tonight, with his very best stuff. He's only give up 3 runs in 3 innings.
  4. ERod looked very hittable in the 1st, which is now coming to fruition.
  5. ERod's changeup ain't working tonight. Way too hittable.
  6. Hitters striving to get the Mendoza line, unite!
  7. Allll right! Power at the bottom of the order. Blind squirrels can celebrate tonight. 2-0 for the good guys.
  8. Boy, I sure hope ERod gets it together in the 2d inning because Texas hit him hard. He was lucky on the three outs. Meanwhile, the Sox don't look so great against Lyles, he with the ERA of 6.39. Are they going to show shots of the retractable dome?
  9. Ted Williams hated night baseball--bad for hitters, he felt. But it sure has helped attendance and TV viewing even though long games deep into the night are a royal pain. Gotta give the Sox the edge tonight.
  10. Almost foreordained—against a tough starter and on short sleep. Good time for errors. Get’em tonight.
  11. Finally, a modicum of common sense. Gibson gave up 1 run in his last 14 innings.
  12. A 3 game streak is nice, but a 4 game streak is even nicer. Keep it up, TylerD! Rangers hitting and pitching to date are both subpar. Rangers are 4-8 in Arlington and the Sox 8-1 on the road. However, Kyle Gibson has an ERA of 2.30, 4 quality starts in 5 starts and held the White Sox to 1 run in 6 innings in his last start and the Orioles to 0 runs in 8 innings the start before that. Our guy Perez, on the other hand, has thus far been a stumblebum.
  13. Sox had to fly from NYC to Dallas after last night's game, so they could be tired. And the Rangers finally have a retractable roof--real grass and AC on the hot days, and dry field&fans on rainy ones.
  14. To me it's much simpler. The Dodgers pay their active players a whole bunch more than the Sox pay theirs, and the teams have the same W-L record. Or try this. Betts is one freaking position player, and one position never, ever can make up for the shortcomings of other position players. Trout has been the best in MLB for quite a while and the Angels have stunk throughout his career.
  15. Yes. Betts was/is unaffordable if your goal is building a good team. Losing him was a lot like losing Jacoby Ellsbury to the Yankees. And yes, I know Betts is way better than Ellsbury was.
  16. This season to date is abloom with "wrong" projections. I started a thread under the assumption that the Sox would remain dead last in the AL East for the rest of the season.
  17. Not sure Devers is the toughest he's faced, but tonight he had half our hits and no K's. JDM, on the other hand, had 3 K's and 0 hits.
  18. Great game, great win. Given that the Mets stink at the plate, I'm not so sure their lack of run production proves our pitching staff is great. I still love what our pitching staff did and think Pivetta was especially gutsy.
  19. Good pitching always tops good hitting. That said, I am astounded by the Sox hitting so far this year. And, as we saw again last night, the pitching ain't too shabby either.
  20. DeGrom has started 4 games, and the Mets lost 2 of them. DeGrom was the losing pitcher in one of those games. The Mets have great pitching, but abysmal hitting--fewest runs scored in MLB. They've scored 57 and the next worst (A's) have scored 67.
  21. As for the Sox presumed weak hitting, a reminder to the whiners. The Mets have the 5th best ERA in MLB--3.17.
  22. I was just telling my wife the same thing. I do think the Mets played better defense, but the Sox made some plays--especially JDM's assist--when needed. Meanwhile, Richards had a ton of K's--10 in 7 innings--and overall the Sox pitchers had 13 K's and 0 BB's. Sox are now 7-1 on the road and 8-8 at home. I wonder if they play any Willie Nelson songs away from Boston.
