  1. That's sad. Completely understandable, but sad. There's MLB before the Flood and MLB after the Flood. I just read that Feller tried to do what Flood later did--get rid of the reserve clause.
  2. Wow. He popped up a changeup at his knees. Great pitch by Whitlock. 6 outs to go. I would not at all object to another run or two from the offense.
  3. Sure would. I met him in DC when year when he was about 90. Great guy, very proud of his WW II service in the US Navy.
  4. Pot, meet kettle. Actually, I only meant that, as great as the Sox have been tonight, the game is far from over. Valdez and Rios were demonstrably game savers, but especially Valdez who came in with men on 2d and 3d and no one out--but neither scored.
  5. Tonight that comment is obtuse. As I've said twice already, he has more than earned his pay behind the plate.
  6. We are still in the freaking 6th inning. Need 9 more outs.
  7. Guardians/Guardians need to win one for a change. 4-4 in the 8th.
  8. Ottavino ran out of gas last night, his third game in three days. Sox are playing a lot of tough games coming up with almost no breaks. Or this: would rather have Rios out there or Workman?
  9. Cole was very unhittable the first 2 times thru the order, but he also threw too many pitches. Whatever the reason, the 3d time thru the order was an unmitigated disaster: single which should have been a dinger; double which should have scored the runner on first; sac fly; 2 run dinger.
  10. Finally, one of the big three gets a real, live, no-baloney rbi. And when it counted. Cole, the dominant one, just ran into the curse: going through the lineup for the 3d time. Hernandez first hit, a single crushed off the wall. Duran first hit (tonight), a double crushed to CF. Bogie SF. And Devers a dinger over the green monster in left center.
  11. Huge hit by Duran off a changeup very low in the zone.
  12. Two huge hits and just men on 2d and 3d and no runs. Tough. And that, ladies and gents, is truly bad luck.
  13. Tough break. But still a single. WEEI guys check the exit speed, 111 mph, and position on the wall and said it was a home run in 29 MLB ballparks.
  14. You really have the hots for him. He has 50 more at bats than Dalbec, but just 1 more dinger and 1 less rbi and 10 freaking years more experience.
  15. Piece of cake, a lazy fly to RF for the third out. Rios had the Yankees bats under control.
  16. Nope. He went 55 pitches and 3 innings, his limit.
  17. Someone needs to go out to the mound and ask Rios, WTF are you doing?
  18. Cole needed just 10 pitches in the 4th. If he can do that again, he will go 6 innings. No question he is dominating the Sox hitters.
  19. Tonight he is definitely earning his pay behind the plate.
  20. Just like last night, the big three--JDM, Bogie, and Devers--ain't doing much at the plate. 1 for 6 and 4 k's.
  21. I counted four pitches last night. 4 seam fastball, sinker fastball, slider (his best pitch), and splitter. If ERod is out, the Sox just lost their one starter with an ERA over 5. As for Sale, sure, nothing is written in stone. See ERod tonight. Or Richards trying to pitch without using glue on the ball. That said, Sale has a great track record and so far has had a great recovery from Tommy John.
  22. I counted four pitches last night. 4 seam fastball, sinker fastball, slider (his best pitch), and splitter.
  23. No, it absolutely was not chin high. Armpits, maybe.
