  1. One terrific at bat by Renfroe, resulting in a clean single off a down and away changeup right on the corner. 9th pitch.
  2. Is anybody watching this guy Peralta? He's throwing great changeups low and on the outside corner.
  3. Correction, 4 singles for the Sox.
  4. The Sox have 3 singles in this game, which tells me the Yankee pitchers have been tough. We get charged up with all those Sox baserunners and forget that 4 of them were on walks.
  5. Kudos to Eovaldi, who is pitching with a lot of heart. In 5 innings, 2 runs on 2 dingers, 7 hits, 6 K's, and 1 BB.
  6. Meh. The Sox have simply run into good pitching. They hit bad pitching just fine. I would be very reluctant to call Devers gutless.
  7. The Sox had little problem hitting the Orioles pitching. The difference is that the Yankees actually have MLB pitchers who are, let's face it, better than the Sox pitchers.
  8. None of those pitches to Devers were easy to hit hard. And all 3 of the strikes were close enough to be called strikes. Thus it is proved: the Yankees have a bullpen, and the Sox don't.
  9. Devers gets another shot. What bothers me is that, as hard as this game has been for the Sox to score--Gil is a good starter--even if the lineup ties it or goes ahead, there is still the dilemma of bringing on that porous bullpen.
  10. And now he's gone 15 innings without giving up a run.
  11. Before this game, Gil had gone 11 innings without giving up a run.
  12. After 3 innings, Sox are 0 for 5 with RISP.
  13. Gil is tough. And the bottom of the Sox order is, well, the pits.
  14. Gil made a bunch of good pitches to K Plawecki.
  15. Plawecki, now hear this. No GIDP. Repeat, no GIDP.
  16. Agree with you and vegasbob. Kike and Renfroe screwed up.
  17. First I realized what MFY stands for. Lead off single by JDM!!
  18. I don't want to hear from anyone who didn't say before the 5th started that Houck should come out for the 5th. I am the only one who said it, and I think there was a valid reason for not sending Houck out for the 3d time through the Yankees order. As for sample size, Houck doesn't have a big one, so Cora has to go with what he's got. As someone else has already pointed out, Houck stinks in the 4th and 5th innings. Plus Whitlock has been the Sox best reliever (WAR-wise) on the Sox, at least, before this game, and Whitlock can go 2 innings easily. Hindsight says shoulda, woulda, coulda gone with Houck, but foresight said, even when he is pitching great guns, Houck comes apart 3d time through the order--or the 5th inning, take your pick.
  19. Many thanks to mvp 78 for 3 straight and crucial wins.
  20. Wild applause. I personally am way down because the bullpen stunk yet again and because the Sox got three straight singles to start the 7th, then Shaw lined out (good swing), and Rike and Renfroe struck out like rookies. But it was a good game, despite the outcome, and tonight could be another with Eovaldi vs. Gil.
  21. I frankly prefer 7 + 7.
  22. With this bullpen you seriously think the Sox need to go 9 innings in both games?
  23. Lo and behold, Vazquez also makes a smart swing and gets and opposite field single.
  24. Actually, that was a smart swing, which JDM and others would do well to copy.
  25. Schwarber got lucky, and I'm glad he did.
