  1. I think Montgomery just got his 2d bad call.
  2. Dinger by Vazquez, who has already earned his pay behind the plate!!!!!!!
  3. A total of 9 hits in this game, and all are singles.
  4. This, despite my whining after the 2d inning, is a ball game!!!!!
  5. Yes, but Montgomery is obviously cheating and needs to be investigated for imparting entirely too much spin to the baseball. If I remember, rule 14b says that experienced hitters with high OPS's are entitled to hit off a T or to have the pitcher throw 85 mph fastballs with no break in them.
  6. Right now that splitter is every bit as good as Montgomery's changeup.
  7. I didn't notice, but you are no doubt correct.
  8. I am pretty much anti-Vazquez, but today once again I give him credit for the job he is doing with Houck.
  9. I think the split finger, which they will sometimes show in slow motion and before the pitcher releases it, is very close to a fork ball. A sinker is I think gripped differently, but I don't know how--but it does have about the same velocity as a fastball, whereas a splitter is about 4-5 mph slower.
  10. I have the impression that lefty pitchers do better against the Sox lineup--despite the fact that the Sox routinely use mostly righty bats even against righty pitchers.
  11. I think both work in the right places.
  12. Sinker is a fast ball that goes down a little, even if its infinitesimal. Rather than sinker, I think Fat Boy might have been a better term.
  13. Houck threw all low stuff, well places, and mixed fastball, sinker, and slider to K Judge. Well done. Two splitters to Gallo, and a 3 batter, 11 pitch 3d for Houck! What a turnaround from the 2d inning and against the 2d, 3d, and 4th Yankee batters.
  14. If Houck can command his slider, fastball, sinker, and splitter, he might be all right.
  15. Yes and no. The problem is that at some point that pitch is in fact headed for the strike zone. This is especially true of the curve which has a lot of break to it.
  16. Am I the only one keeping track of what the pitchers are doing? Did no one else notice that that sinker to Bogey was incredibly stupid?
  17. Bonehead move by Monty and his stupid catcher!!!!! Curve was working great, so they decided to give Bogey a fastball right down the middle. 2-2 !!!!!!!!
  18. On the other hand, it is destroying Bogie as it did JDM.
  19. The one downside to Montgomery's great curve is that with men on base a WP can be costly.
  20. Terrible swing by Renfroe on a changeup way outside. This is why Houck needs a changeup.
  21. Changeup right down the middle, and Kike barely fouled it off.
  22. The difference between Montgomery today and Houck today is that Montgomery has pretty good stuff, especially the wicked curve and nasty changeup. Everything Houck has throw has been hittable.
  23. I am pretty sure all Montgomery needs against our lineup is that big curve, that pretty good cut fastball (91 mph), and the changeup. Dalbec loyalists need to take a bow.
  24. Well, he certainly could use a good curve ball and/or a good changeup, but today his command is also a problem.
