  1. You need to check your facts. Richards and Perez are in the bullpen. Pivetta is inconsistent, but has also pitched well in some game and might be fixable. Four of ERod's 5 most recent starts have been good.
  2. Vazquez's self-redemption!!!! Ain't no substitute for a dinger and very possibly a return to form.
  3. JDM, the old reliable. When a GIDP is there to be made, he is the man to make it. He hit that ground off a ball up in the strike zone, which is why we call him Old Reliable. Sale is pitching his heart out despite weak defense, a hostile ump, and hitters who aren't, well, hitting. That he is behind 2-1 was completely predictable. Rays pitching and defense are vastly better than the Sox, and hitting is incidental.
  4. The Sox have not made one single good play on defense, but have made several weak plays that were not scored as errors.
  5. I agree he was waving his arms, but I didn't see him motioning toward home. If that was the go sign from Febles, he is a piss poor 3b coach. Plus Vazquez is really slow on the basepaths.
  6. Agree. Normally, a runner on 2b will already get a jump with 2 outs and so should be able to score on even a hard hit single which this was. The replay shows that Vazquez did go at the crack of the bat, but not quickly, nor did he get around 3b quickly. I can't tell what the 3b coach signaled, but Vazquez was out by 20 feet.
  7. Normally, I would disagree, but tonight it sure looks as though the Rays have significant edge on close calls. I think Vazquez gets part of the blame for poor framing.
  8. Rays pitcher once again gets a strike in the same exact spot where Sale got a ball. Nevertheless, Arauz the great walks, and Chargois is immediately pulled by Cash! The Rays are embarrassingly rich in pitching depth. Cora can only dream of being able to do what Cash does routinely.
  9. I'd be disgusted with Lopez and Arauz's inability to hit were it not for Schwarber, Renfroe, JDM and Devers also going hitless so far--to say nothing of each K'ing once.
  10. Pitching, beyond question, is the name of the game. Rasmussen has thrown 73 pitches, has no one on base, and Cash has someone warming up--he just came in after Vazquez singled. The 3 best teams in the AL-- the Yankees, Astros, and Rays--also have the lowest team ERA's. And the A's ERA is 4th best and the White Sox 5th best. The Sox ERA is 8th best. I do not see any way the Sox are going to get into the playoffs. I also don't mind admitting that the ERA is bad in part because the defense is bad. Errors aren't the problem because they lead to unearned runs, which don't count against pitchers. The problem is with plays which should have been made but aren't--and also don't involve charged errors. So, yes, poor defense is a factor, but the last 2 games were lost because of rotten pitching.
  11. Out of the inning!!! And you want to know why? Arauz never got a chance to touch the ball. I played SS in Babe Ruth League 66 years ago and didn't look as bad as he does. (Or so my perfect memory claims.)
  12. I think Sale is shaking off some pitches in this game even though he almost never does that. Once again, no help from the defense--although that was a tough paly.
  13. Nice throw by Vazquez. Stupid baserunning by the Rays.
  14. Vazquez is doing a horrible job of framing Sale's pitches. That walk was despite some great pitches by Sale. Vazquez is also lousy at preventing wild pitches.
  15. Don't forget the 2 outs the Sox defense gave up in the 1st inning--Arauz on a late throw and Schwarber on a missed catch of a line drive right at him. Sale does not have his best stuff tonight. His changeup and slider are not breaking sharply. Meanwhile, the top of the Sox order can't handle Rasmussen. Schwarber, Renfroe, Devers, and JDM: 8 outs, 4 K's, no one on base.
  16. Sale's a professional on a team with too many dilletantes who nevertheless are called pitchers.
  17. No changeup up (and not much of a slider) finally caught up with Sale. That fastball for the dinger was in the high outside corner of the strike zone--and 94 mph.
  18. Sale's changeup isn't working, and he has 1 BB, 1 HBP, and no K's. But he is still getting guys outs--32 pitches in 2 innings, not great, but far from lousy. Sale is a professional pitcher, unlike the guys we saw last night and the night before.
  19. To quote Slim Pickens, I think you could in for some pretty important decorations for starting this thread.

  21. This is so unfair to Duran, making him bat against fastballs--right down the middle, I hasten to add--that go more than 90 mph. What was Cora thinking?
  22. Barnes and Bogie testing positive sure was convenient. Indeed, one could hope both had COVID'd out a month ago so Bogey could rest his wrist and Barnes his arm, body, mind, and soul.
  23. Meanwhile at the ranch, Schwarber, Renfroe, Devers, and JDM--all presumably competent hitters--have started this game by striking out. Whoops. Looks like Verdugo came to play. I was afraid Rasmussen was going for an immaculate game--striking out 27 Sox "hitters."
