    Agree. But Canada is pushing vaccinations, which are a good idea overall. As are masks. I have the 4 shots, but I rely more on my KN95 mask, some distancing, and minimizing my time inside public venues.

    I am ostracizing the heck out of them, but I agree with you. What's done is done, and the team needs to move on.

    No doubt. The problem is, however, that time and time again this season Toronto's pitching, ranked 10th in the American League in ERA (4.01), has dominated Sox hitting, ranked 2d in runs scored and 3d in OPS. They have our number. I hasten to add that last night Gauman's dominance did not look lucky. That splitter was nasty, and the fastball (95) and slider weren't bad either. I think he also threw a changeup now and then. However, just 12 days ago the Orioles hammered Gausman for 5 runs--in Toronto.

    I'm not rooting for him because he's overpaid. That said, JBJ was hands down one of the most exciting outfielders Boston has ever had: great range because he got those uncanny jumps on the ball; terrific arm even from deep centerfield; and hitting that went from just awful to very good and back again and back again. And he sure came in handy during the Sox best season ever, 2018: 5th highest WAR (2.1) on the team; .835 OPS in the 14 postseason games. Mookie was the star with fantastic numbers, but JBJ definitely contributed.

Both pitchers good, but the pressure is definitely on our Sox who last night were once again tormented by those Blue Jays: "Blue jays can be very aggressive to other birds; they sometimes raid nests and have decapitated other birds." Cora going with just 3 lefty bats: Duran is still out of country and JBJ has been dropped from the lineup. Enter Christian Arroyo: a little scary in RF--his overall DWAR is -.4--but he swung the bat well @ Cleveland 4 days ago.     So, I guess we just scratch the 70-76 games played to date as irrelevant. Tell that to the Yankees and see where that gets you. I'll bet you can't find single Yankee fan anywhere who thinks what they've done so far means nada. Also tell it to the A's, who will be thrilled to start over. I'm not saying a lot won't happen in the slightly more than half a season yet to play, but declaring almost half a season played to be irrelevant is just asinine.

    Actually, that's good news. His overall fWAR is -0.5, which means, according to Fangraphs, there are well over a thousand MLB players today who are better (in terms of contributions to winning or at least not losing too many games) than JBJ.

    Of course it's money. On the other hand, the rock bottom team (Oakland A's) in MLB still wins one out of three games--25 of 75 so far. In the NHL the Montreal Canadiens won 22 of 82 games, the Flyers 25 of 82, and the Coyotes 25 of 82. In the NFL the Jets won 4 of 17 games, the Texans 4 of 17, the Jaguars 3 of 17, the Giants 4 of 17, the Lions 3 of 16, and the Panthers 5 of 17.

    His DWAR right now is -0.3. To me that is a showstopper.

    I'm being mean. Yes, those K's piss me off. But I do like his defense and rbi's. But, as I just pointed out, Story's overall fWAR is 1.6 to Bogey's 3.4, and Bogey is paid less.

    If you go by DWAR's, Torres and Gimenez are neck and neck with Story--all three are at +1.1. But I could not agree more he has made a lot of great plays and makes a real difference @ 2b. I also agree the rbi's are commendable. However, his fWAR is 1.6, 95th best in MLB, and his salary is $22M/year, so I think he is underperforming vis-a-vis his cost. Consider Story's teammates. Devers (4.2), Bogaerts (3.4), Pivetta (1.9), and JDM (1.8) all have higher fWAR's than Story and are paid less. Actually, let's just compare Bogey's 3.4 to to Story's 1.6 (less than half of Bogey's fWAR) because they are about the same age and both past free agency. Indeed, Story was brought in, I think, to replace Bogey. He's a better fielder and has driven in way more runs (51 vs. 31). But his fWAR is half of Bogey's.

    "I think" is still an opinion. In this case, it's based on Sale's track record, which is compelling. I'm less hopeful than moonslav, but we both emphatically agree on Chris Sale's professionalism. The Sox are paying Chris Sale a lot of money to contribute to a team that is shaping up to be better than the bottom feeders they were in May. So it really doesn't make much sense not to insist he can't contribute. Also, Bellhorn read the same thing I've read--Sale has been throwing his changeup. It is not loooosssstttt iiiinnnnn spaaaaaace.

    True. Like his predecessor in LF (Ted Williams), his craft was hitting and nothing else.

    Story's actually a pretty good hitter. He only has trouble with two pitches, fast ones and the ones that break. You put that ball on a T, and you'll see from real hitting.

    Well tonight is definitely one of those occasions. Gausman has been tough, no question. I've whined about our hitters, but Gausman has not been lucky. He has been the lost and now found brother of the wicked witch of the west. That splitter reminds of Uehara's. Fastball is pretty good too. And the slider. Changeup OK, but not well controlled.

    Had to be someone brought up and his Worcester stats were good. He simply lost command of his pitches.
