If you go by DWAR's, Torres and Gimenez are neck and neck with Story--all three are at +1.1. But I could not agree more he has made a lot of great plays and makes a real difference @ 2b. I also agree the rbi's are commendable.
However, his fWAR is 1.6, 95th best in MLB, and his salary is $22M/year, so I think he is underperforming vis-a-vis his cost.
Consider Story's teammates. Devers (4.2), Bogaerts (3.4), Pivetta (1.9), and JDM (1.8) all have higher fWAR's than Story and are paid less.
Actually, let's just compare Bogey's 3.4 to to Story's 1.6 (less than half of Bogey's fWAR) because they are about the same age and both past free agency. Indeed, Story was brought in, I think, to replace Bogey. He's a better fielder and has driven in way more runs (51 vs. 31). But his fWAR is half of Bogey's.
