  1. That's probably true, but the real shame is not going after Max Scherzer. I know I'm a broken record on that.
  2. I hope they find a trade partner.
  3. The bottom line is that other than 2003 and 2008, I don't think we could have won any other championships recently, so all of this is water under the bridge. Well except the fact that we are still paying Sandoval and Castillo.
  4. I would be shocked if the last 5 years of Cano's contract are at all justifiable.
  5. I'm curious now how often the team that spent the most won the World Series.
  6. Oh! Wait, so you are telling me that he was handed an 8 year contract when he was 33 years old? Madness!!!! This contract looks even worse than Pablo Sandoval's and I didn't think that was possible.
  7. Maybe it’s just the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet, but who is Miggy?
  8. I keep waiting for the announcement that the Rays signed Nelson Cruz. He's exactly what they need.
  9. I saw a quote from Cora saying he noticed Mookie was getting "lazy" when leading off. I wouldn't know how to look it up, but can we find Mookie's on base & slugging averages with men on base vs. bases empty? Maybe Mookie thrives when he feels there's an RBI opportunity, in which case moving him to 2nd or 3rd makes a huge difference.
  10. I am also extremely worried. My prediction is that we end up keeping Porcello over Sale.
  11. I wouldn't want to make that trade. E-Rod and Syndergaard look very similar to me, accounting for AL/NL differences.
  12. So from memory here's our bullpen without further additions: Pick 7 from: Johnson Velazquez Wright Braiser Barnes Workman Hembree Thornburg Poyner Did I miss anybody of significance? It's not terrible; I think we could still win the World Series with that, assuming Brasier continues his brilliance and Thornburg can at least reliably get lefties out.

  14. This is SO interesting. Why the radical change against a lefty? Why not just put Pearce where Moreland was?
  15. Maybe Johnson solves the lefty in the pen issue anyway?
  16. I think Beni-Betts-Bogaerts-Martinez-Moreland/Pearce will be fantastic.
  17. I feel similarly about Hector Velazquez as a starter.
  18. I hope Swihart gets a larger role on another team.
  19. E-Rod was doing wonderful, having exactly the year you are describing, before injury once again derailed his season.
  20. Moon said everything I was going to.
  21. ... which is to say, we don't need to add another starter. In my humble opinion. Thanks Moon for doing all the work in that response!
  22. Another starter; why?
  23. As for a viable starting pitcher, we keep trading them away. And I think Johnson and Velazquez could most certainly be #4-#5 starters on other teams.
  24. Like I said, I had it wrong. In fact I was harping on Price as nothing more than a #3 pitcher making #1+ money right up through the All Star Break. I did a breakdown of Price starts vs. E-Rod starts showing they are essentially the same and everything. And then ... Price just took off. I hope he keeps it up next year.
  25. I was happy we got Price but thought $30 million per season was a monstrous overpay. My primary target was actually Johnny Cueto, who had one great year with San Fran and seems to have petered out, so don't listen to me
