During the brief stint we saw him in 2013, I was thinking, this kid is an assassin. He's cool, calm, collected and will kill pitching. I was a fan of this kid since we first have seen him.
I still think one of the funniest interview was by him during the WS run in 2013. He had only been up a few days, but did well at the plate mostly by not swinging.
I forget what the question was to him, and he said some thing like "they don't pitch me anything to hit, when they pitch to me I'll hit it, why don't they throw anything to hit for me, everything outside...... they pitch me a strike I hit the ball"
....... . I'm thinking, this kid has balls.
We heard about the defeive training and hoped it would take, or even be true for all that matter. The quicker step, the more range, but mainly I remember gaining a quicker first step. Seems solid now with some flashes of great glove. I bet you it aint a bad thing he is right next to Pedey and is taking notes.
Maybe he is allergic to 3rd base??????
I'm also on the Betts wagon. Seriously, that kid has been unlucky like I can't believe. Lately he seems overpowered and hits something weak. But he always seems to give a good at bat. He doesn't go down easily. He has been hitting it weakly somewhat. But like Xander, he is figuring it out. It will be fun to see him for years.
Swihart. He looks so young out there and has this look since day one of "what the hell is going on, and what the hell am I doing". But even though the batting average isn't there, from day one, he has been solid behind the mound. I forget he is a rookie when he is catching. I forget he is even there sometimes other than to say that was a good stop, and that is a good thing. Another 20 pounds of muscle and another year of looking at major league pitching he will be solid.
