  1. There are definitely clutch hits. It's just not a repeatable skill.
  2. I agree that there are some who can't handle the pressure and will fold or choke. However, I strongly believe that in baseball, these players will never reach the major league level, or if they do, they don't last very long. At the major league level, there really aren't many guys who are more likely to fold under pressure. There are just guys who aren't as good as other guys.
  3. First off, I said that I was disappointed in his post, not in him. You may not think there's a difference, but I do. Secondly, I am not trying to be the board disciplinarian. I consider SoxNCycles a friend, and when someone insults my friend, especially when I find the insults to be inaccurate and unwarranted, I am going to defend him, not that he needs my help. Lastly, I apologize to you and to the rest of the forum for my posts on this topic. I really do not like getting into this type of back and forth crap, and I think my posting up until this point shows that. I feel bad about it, and this will be my last post on this topic. My sincerest apologies.
  4. I appreciate your apology, and I apologize for not sending you a PM rather than posting what I did on the thread.
  5. You insulted him first on this thread, then when you were done insulting him, you made your "call for unity". You don't get to insult someone, then act like it's the other person's fault when he responds in kind using the guise of a "call for unity". You are at fault here Fred.

    Golf

I think the sport of golf needs to do some research on the topic of clutch. Perhaps no one ever denies the existence of clutch and choke because no one has ever challenged it? Maybe clutch does exist in the world of golf. Or maybe the guys who appear clutch are just good, period. I honestly don't know.
  7. Of course. One never passes up an opportunity to take a shot at the Yankees though. Never mind that our outfielders didn't start either, the Yankees are wimps! LOL
  8. I would not dare mess with your lineup mojo. And I will never again question BTR's mojo. I obviously had no clue of what I was talking about. I bow to the Master of Mojo. Carry on guys. Keep it going!
  9. There is so much wrong with this post that I don't even know where to start.
  10. Or in other words, it's not really clutch hitting. It's his usual hitting. "Clutch" is a repeatable skill only to the extent of what the hitter does all the time, meaning there is no clutch.
  11. Spot on post.
  12. Nava, Holt, and Craig were all instrumental to the Sox win yesterday. These guys could all be starters on other teams. This is the importance of a deep bench, something we didn't have last year but did have in 2013.
  13. I am very pleased with what we've seen the first time through the rotation. We couldn't have possibley asked for more from Kelly last night. Obviously, there is a long way to go, but if these guys can continue to give quality starts, or something at least close to a quality start, the Sox should be in very good shape. We don't need these guys to pitch every game like Kelly did last night. Just don't implode, and give the offense a fighting chance. Well done so far!
  14. I am very disappointed in this post from you cp. I expect this from some others, not from you.
  15. The problem with your "call for unity" is that it comes after you have taken your shot. You drudge up some old stuff, inaccurately, I might add, insult the guy, unfairly paint him in a negative light, then when you're through with your insults, you make a "call for unity". You did the same thing to me here. At least he had the decency to take it off the board and respond to you privately. You're the one who chose to make it public again.
  16. For the Yankees, McCann, Drew, Teixeira and Ellsbury are not starting. Wimps.
  17. Fred, you continue to post things of a personal nature about how wrong, nasty, and terrible some of us were on the other board. Not only was that a long time ago, but more importantly, your opinion is just a bit negatively slanted against us. In other words, we are not and were not nearly as bad as you paint us to be. Please, just stop.
  18. That's because men are too stubborn to admit that they are wrong.
  19. ^^This I have changed some of my opinions since discovering the world of sabermetrics. So much of what we had accepted as true is just wrong.
  20. Some of us have no life, therefore we have a lot of time to waste.
  21. How well do you suppose stolen bases correlates to runs scored? Are there going to be times when a stolen base will be huge? Of course. Are stolen bases vital to the success of a team? No.
  22. I have already stated that Roberts stolen base was huge, and likely the difference between the WS Championship and going home that night. There are obviously going to be particular stolen bases that are game changers. However, most of them are not. As far as clutch goes, "clutch" hitters hit so well in the clutch because they hit so well all the time. They are just good hitters, period. I have already provided evidence on the clutch argument too. People just choose to ignore it because it doesn't support their opinions. If Papi's HR had ended up being the game winner last night, he would be getting more credit about how clutch he is. However, how many times did he fail to come through before that at bat?
  23. I provided evidence.
  24. BTR, I will give you some mojo credit for being able to pull the Red Sox through that game last night. It would have been unbearable if we had lost. Still, we need to win at least one more of these games, and a sweep would be even better. Please deliver! MVP, I can't believe you turned on me after I took your side in the first game thread. I am deeply, deeply hurt. I may not recover...
  25. I'm just glad the Sox came away with the W. Can you imagine how crappy we would all feel if after all that, the Sox had lost? It's always nice to win the first game of a series. And I agree with Pal. Wright's outing would not have seemed that bad, had it not been for the fact that the game was deep into extra innings. It turned out to be a good thing that he was available in the pen and not starting tonight.
