I was not expecting either Pablo or Hanley to play better than their career norms. However, I don't think it's an unfair or an unreasonable expectation for them to play somewhat close to the level at which they've played the last few years.
I can understand both signings. Our offense flat out stunk last year. The FO attempted to address that problem by signing two of the best bats available.
I will say again, no, no, no to Hanley playing first base. Please, no. If the FO is truly making defense a priority this offseason, then Hanley needs to play elsewhere. I would rather he stay in LF than play 1B.
