    Whatever team wins the World Series one year, that is the model that all teams should build around the during the offseason, according to the scribes and many fans. In reality, though, it takes a balance. Plus, what works for one team may not work for another.

    I am a bit concerned with Bautista's clubhouse presence. I'm not sure that he's the type of player that I'd want.

    A trade exists if Dombrowski wanted to get crazy enough. That's kind of my point. If he goes all out to bring in another top pitcher at an astronomical price, that is the 'win now' mentality that is likely to doom the team after the 3 year window. He was able to get away with the huge contract for Price and the large prices he paid for Kimbrel and, to a lesser extent, Pomeranz, because the farm and the young core of the team were in such great shape. Dombrowski should not be looking to trade more of our youngsters in an effort to put us 'over the top' next year. He should be continuing to build and reinforce the farm so that the next wave of players will be ready to go when we possibly lose some of our current youngsters to free agency. Our current team is more or less good to go as is. I think we both agree on that.

    The team was a 98 Win team, according to its Pythagorean W-L, with the worst 3B and the stinky pen. I agree that both of those areas are areas of weakness that can be upgraded. I don't agree that they are 'glaring' weaknesses. I don't think it would be wise of Dombrowski to stand pat and not try to upgrade. I would focus on the pen and hope that the 3B situation works itself out. I just don't think that any big move needs to be made. A couple of tweaks here and there should be sufficient.

    Yes, because it worked. Therefore, the win expectancy changed dramatically after Coco got the hit.

    Of course. But every move has a counter-effect. I know I'm not going to convince you, but each move is not as significant as it seems. That said, I will give Tito kudos for doing a very good job in the postseason. Every move that he makes 'seems' to be the right move.

    I agree with all of this. I am not yet convinced that Dombrowski won't 'continue to deal the same way', which is where my concern comes in. I agree that we don't need any big moves, and have said so many times. I have also said that at this point, our future is still in very good shape. If Dombrowski pays a fortune for Encarnacion and/or trades several young players for a young pitcher, then all bets are off.

    Of course it's only my opinion, but I believe that Vazquez was rushed back due to the sense of urgency that management admitted to having. Vazquez may have had plenty of time to develop. He did not have enough time to rehab after his injury. Calling him back too soon ended up hurting his progress in that regard. Swihart did an admirable job in 2015 when he was called up before he was ready. That said, if memory serves me right, he was the worst defensive catcher that season. He could have benefited from more reps at catcher this past year once he was sent back down in lieu of Vazquez. Rather than moving him to left field, which was another 'sense of urgency' move, they should have let him focus on honing his catching skills. All my opinion, of course, but I think the FO acted rashly in many instances last season. I also thought they called up both Beni and Moncada too quickly. They were right with Beni, but not so with Moncada.

    While it's not impossible for the Cubs to come back, their chances now are slim to none. Disappointed for the Cubs. Very happy for Tito. I hope the Cubs win tonight.

    Dombrowski's moves, to date, have not decimated our long term outlook because our farm system was deep. If continues to deal in the same way, however, the state of our team could be in trouble in a few years. That is not the way to build a team.

    IMO, the team has no major holes. I think if Dombrowski brought back the exact same team minus Papi, we would contend in 2017. Yes, there is room for improvement, as there always is, but I don't think anything is glaring.

    IMO, the FO screwed the pooch on that one. They not only messed up Swihart's progress and development as a catcher by taking him out of the position, they messed up Vazquez' progress by rushing him back. Not saying that either one is permanently messed up, but the FO's rash decisions have somewhat delayed the progress of both young catchers. The FO needs to lose the 'sense of urgency' mentality that they had last season. Patience is a good thing.

    While Francona doesn't strike me as the vindictive type, I know that he was hurt by the way things unfolded at the end of 2011. I'm sure that winning another championship would give him a sense of vindication. However, I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Tito can be as motivated as he wants to be. That doesn't change the fact that his on field decisions do not have as large an impact on the outcome of the game as most people think they do.

    I just read that Lackey is making more money this year than the entire Guardians starting rotation. That is just nuts.

    I would really like to see Francona win another ring. However, I would also like to see Theo help end another championship drought. Both of them are among the best in the business at what they do. Both of them took a lot of undeserved flack while they were here. Many fans didn't know how good we had it when those two were here.

    Of course it's a valid concern. We've lost some good people. It may end up not making a difference. Then again, it might.

    I don't think anyone is blindly assuming that Pablo will be a decent third baseman, and I don't think anyone has him penciled in for next year. I've been his biggest supporter, and even I would not count on him for anything. I think you're being a little unfair about the injury though. He got injured. It might not have had anything to do with his weight. IMO, he gets a chance to win his job back in spring training. Personally, I think he will bounce back. Will he be better than Shaw? I don't know. But as much as he should not be counted on to do the job, he should also not be counted out.

    The Cubs have put themselves in a good spot by getting a split in Cleveland. That said, I'm not ready to count the Tribe out yet.

    I thought the early start would help, but they were only through 6 innings at about 10:00. What's up with that? I am torn too. I really don't want to see either team lose.
