  1. I can agree with this. I actually tracked the team's sac bunts and sac bunt attempts last season. I am pleased to report that Farrell did a pretty good job with his use (or non-use) of the sac bunt last season.
  2. Actually, I do believe in choking. However, I believe that players who have made it to the major league level and have been successful enough to stay there are players who know how to handle the pressure and can avoid choking in big spots. Hence, I don't think you'll find chokers at the major league level. You'll have choking moments, as you'll have clutch moments, but not chokers.
  3. His contract is absurd, I'll give you that.
  4. LOL Price may very well be mentally weak in terms of the postseason. I don't know. But as with Pablo and Lackey, among others, I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt.
  5. I also hate the sac bunt in almost every situation. As far as bunting for a hit against the shift, as I said, the strategy has merit if used correctly. I guess I still have painful memories of a couple of our youngsters bunting on their own last season at what seemed like very inopportune times.
  6. Exactly. Even without the addition of Sale, I think our team could have withstood the loss of Papi. We may not be the best offense in the league anymore, but we should still be top 3.
  7. I agree. I think some people forget how bad Shaw was after July, and also in June.
  8. I fully endorse this post.
  9. Truth!
  10. I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but two thoughts: 1. Early preseason starts have Porcello lined up to be our Opening Day starter, which is the right call, with Price, then Sale following, which is also the right call. 2. I'm not sure if I'm going to like Farrell's philosophy of bunting for base hits to beat the shift. It has merit and is the right idea if used properly, but I'm afraid the approach might be overused.
  11. You were absolutely right about Castillo.
  12. Obviously, 2 ABs is nothing to base any decision off of, but even without that, I think I'd prefer that he start the season further down in the line up.
  13. Farrell was asked who was the one player that has stood out to him so far, and his response was Selsky.
  14. Thanks for the reports. Hope you're enjoying yourself! I've read that Sale has been awesome with the fans as well, especially the kids. Great to see.
  15. I will also be very surprised if Pom does not start the season as a starter. I know that many see him as a better option in the pen, but I think it's in the team's best interest not to 'demote' him to the role of reliever yet.
  16. I agree with you 100% on the depth issue. I will be very surprised if one of our pitchers is released at the beginning of the season because he doesn't have options. My guess is that ERod or Barnes will start in AAA, or someone will hit the DL, either phantom or real.
  17. Our 3rd basemen last year were dead last offensively out of all 30 teams. Their combined OPS was .685 and their combined wOBA was .296. Pablo should be able to top that. Moreland is not supposed to replace Papi. Our offense will not be as good as it was last year, but it will still be very good. I am not concerned about it.
  18. Pablo is being very secretive about his diet. He wouldn't give reporters a straight answer about it. LOL
  19. I give Price more credit than that. Of course I don't know him, but I get the impression that he can handle pressure pretty well. I was not expecting him to to pitch poorly in the postseason. I don't see him as a choker.
  20. Price does admittedly talk to a sports psychologist about something, just not the postseason struggles. He seemed rather adamant about his lack of postseason success being caused by any mental weakness. I don't follow his Twitter comments, but apparently he is letting the Twitter folks get to him, and he has become somewhat defensive about the subject. If that's the case, then I can certainly see how this is in his head, and how it could affect his future postseason performance.
  21. Our offense will be fine. Sandoval has a decent chance of providing more offense than we got from our 3B last year. Putting Swihart behind the plate to improve our offense, at the expense of our defense, would be a mistake IMO.
  22. Well this idea is better than the idea of putting a runner on 2nd base in extra innings, but that's not saying anything. I like watching the pitchers pitch IBB also. They really ought to leave the game the way it is.
  23. I did not particularly like the signing when it happened, but beyond that, I agree with this post.
  24. They are great players who have fallen victim to randomness and small sample sizes.
