  1. NOT! And in fairness to Moon, there are two posters who have 'cliff' avatars, which makes mentioning the cliff fair game. Read the handbook.
  2. IMO, we should have never traded for Kimbrel to begin with. Overpayment in both prospects and salary equals double whammy.
  3. The cliff exists, until it doesn't. We have not yet reached it, but it's there.
  4. I would love to have Abreu on our team, no doubt. I just don't think we can do it without creating another hole. I'd hate to see JBJ go too. He's the player I've always pulled the hardest for.
  5. Agreed. He deserves a chance.
  6. Oh, I agree that our window goes beyond 2018. I just couldn't resist.
  7. No, it's not. Because Dombrowski is not being criticized for consistently getting a team to the crap table. It's a strawman argument.
  8. No, but I'm very confident in making that statement. Extremely confident.
  9. Of course resetting the tax was a big deal to Henry.
  10. the cliff!!!
  11. Agreed. I don't blame Dombrowski for the team not winning a championship. I blame him for his short term or 'win now at the expense of the future' philosophy, precisely because the playoffs are a crapshoot. If Dombrowski's short sighted vision guaranteed us a championship, I'd be all in. And if we win a ring in the next 2 years, then Dombrowski's moves will have been worth it.
  12. Go Giants!
  13. I don't think we have the pieces to trade for Abreu, unless we're talking major league talent. One of the writers, I believe it was Cameron, made a very good point about gaining offense at the expense of our defense if we trade JBJ and move Beni to CF. It becomes almost a lateral move at a higher cost.
  14. Well said. If I felt comfortable that taking on large contracts would not prohibit us from any future signings, then I'd have no problem with large contracts. But the reality is that if we have a contract like Price's and trade for Stanton and take on that contract as well, that will limit our financial flexibility. Also, Henry is not going to spend enough over the tax limit to enter the 'steep' penalty area. I am confident of that.
  15. I certainly do not want a player that doesn't want to be here.
  16. My sentiments exactly.
  17. I hope you're right.
  18. The MLB team would have been in the playoffs in 2016 without Dombrowski selling off the farm.
  19. He didn't have to blow up the farm.
  20. If signing Ohtani required giving him a big contract, I'd say he isn't worth the risk. But since he will be playing or league minimum there's no harm in trying to nab him. I think the Sox should make a big push for him, not that I think it will matter. IMO, Ohtani is headed for the Evil Empire.
  21. The best from those 3 does look pretty good, but I think it's a legitimate question as to whether we'll get the best from them or not.
  22. I think there are a few in our rotation that could go either way. Actually, outside of Sale, the other starters could be very good or they could be meh, a lot of which depends on health. I would still prefer adding a #2/3 starter over adding a big bat.
  23. I disagree. That doesn't mean that you only shop for 'bargains', but GMs, even those of big market clubs, better be keeping these types of players and deals in mind. IMO, making deals that will bring you the most WAR per dollar often makes a lot of sense.
  24. Dave Cameron is the man. I don't always agree with him, but he's the man.
  25. A 'bargain' doesn't necessarily mean the player will be a key starting player. A bargain means that you will get good bang for your buck. That bang might only be 1 WAR, as Notin pointed out, but if you're only paying a couple of million for that win as opposed to $8 million, then that's a bargain.
