  1. Cora said that he has his players off days mapped out like 4 games in advance. This was Beni's off day and Cora isn't deviating from his plan, for now. Maybe later in the season.
  2. IMO, the aggressive approach is making the biggest impact with our hitters so far, not letting those middle-middle pitches go by and getting into a pitcher's count. Being healthy has played a big part too. Plus good old plain regression.
  3. It's still not that black and white. If it's winning a WS this year with Hanley playing a large part in that, then I'd gladly take Hanley over either Kimbrel or Pomeranz. I think regardless, I'd take Hanley over Kimbrel based on my feelings about not giving large contracts to relievers. Hanley over Pomeranz would be a little tougher, but if we didn't re-sign Kimbrel, we should be able to re-sign Pom.
  4. Keep it going boys! Win!
  5. LOL Nope. I love the randomness. It's what makes the sport so beautiful.
  6. No, just no.
  7. Relief pitchers are the easiest pieces on the team to replace.
  8. This is true. Even if Hanley's option doesn't vest, I would not want to spend that money on Kimbrel. There are better ways to spend that money than on a relief pitcher.
  9. First off, it's not as simple as having one over the other. Secondly, whether I'd want Kimbrel over Hanley depends. I would take last year's Kimbrel over last year's Hanley, but I would take the 2016 Hanley over the 2016 Kimbrel. I don't think it's a cut and dry answer.
  10. All right Red Sox, no messing around. Get it done. Win!
  11. This is a topic that has been statistically studied and proven by the stat geeks.
  12. If you recall, we were one of the worst teams at swinging at pitches that were middle-middle. Here are some early numbers on that stat so far this year, courtesy of Red Sox Stats ‏ @redsoxstats 32m32 minutes ago Percent of middle-middle pitched swung at
  13. Not re-signing Kimbral will free up much of the money if Hanley's option vests. And Hanley's option is only for one year. It's not going to make or break the team.
  14. The things that I have stated as fact, are indeed fact.
  15. It's not just a matter of cherry picked stats though.
  16. Cora came to the team with several ideas that he wanted to implement, based on their success with the Astros. One of them was resting players regularly. Another was to sit a player at the first sign of a slump. In the long run, I think it will help our players to stay fresh. That said, I really wouldn't mess with the alignment of Beni, JBJ, and Betts in the outfield.
  17. It's not 'picking the right years'. You will be able to find good teams that have good records in one run games. You will be able to find bad teams that have good records in one run games. Team records in one run games are all over the place. That's the point. It's very random.
  18. And in those same seasons, here are the records in blow out games (5+ runs): 2004 36-20, .643 2007 36-17, .679 2013 33-13, .717 You can tell a lot more about the talent of a team by looking at its record in blow out games. A team's record in 1 run games pretty much tells you nothing, except maybe how lucky or unlucky a team has been.
  19. It seems that the number of pitches thrown in a game has more of an effect on future performance than days of rest has. And the cumulative effect is greater than the immediate effect. That, coupled with the idea of not having your starters face an opposing line up a 3rd time through the order suggests to me that limiting pitch counts would be more effective than more days of rest in between starts. That said, I'm not opposed to giving a starter an extra day off here and there.
  20. Ten to fourteen days sounds a little optimistic. I just hope it doesn't linger on and on.
