  1. Today's line up: 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. J.D. Martinez ® DH 4. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 6. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B 7. Blake Swihart (S) 1B 8. Christian Vazquez ® C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF Moreland gets the night off, and Devers moves into the clean up spot. Oye.
  2. Of course managers make mistakes. However, I feel the majority of what we deem to be mistakes are not mistakes. I wouldn't call using Kimbrel with that 4 run lead a mistake. I was surprised to see him in the game, meaning that if I were the manager, I don't think I'd have used him, but that doesn't mean it was a mistake. The decision to use him is certainly defensible.
  3. The problem with Holt, Nunez, and Moreland to a lesser extent, is that they are not meant to be everyday players. Their value and also their production shines best when they are used in bench/platoon roles.
  4. I just think he's a punk, and the takeout slide is a part of it.
  5. I feel good about tonight's game. We got this!
  6. Maybe even very random!
  7. Ha. I like the way you think.
  8. I completely agree. It's very hard to take.
  9. I agree that there is an awful lot of trash out there in the AL. That bodes well for the Ms earning a WC spot. I didn't say the Astros were going to beat Seattle by 12.5 games. I said they should be ahead of the Ms right now by 12.5 games, but there is only 1/2 a game separating the two teams right now, largely due to luck. I don't think Seattle will challenge the Astros for the division in the end.
  10. Another team that has been rather lucky in one run games. OTOH, your team has also done well in blowouts, so I'll let you slide on the one run luck, for now.
  11. Fair enough point about not knowing what Dombrowski's true intentions were with Devers. As far as what the Os can get for Machado and Britton, that depends on how desperate the teams are. The Red Sox aren't, or shouldn't be, anywhere near the point of desperation to make a trade for Machado that involves giving up a player like Devers. Actually for me, I would not want Machado even if the Os gave him to us for free. That is 100% the emotional side of me talking, not the rational side, but that's the way I feel about Machado. I don't think it will happen, but I hope the Yankees spend big to get him.
  12. I 100% agree with your second paragraph. I am glad that the Sox did not go out and sign another Sandoval type player, but called up Devers instead. To be clear, I was not opposed to Devers being called up. But to me, it still smells of panic.
  13. We have a very good young core. Dombrowski has a tough task ahead of him in figuring out who and how to keep longer term.
  14. As you well know, I am not a fan of big contracts, but I was all in on Pedroia's extension.
  15. Also, nice run with the game thread mojo.
  16. Perhaps. As I said, I was surprised to see Kimbrel in that 4 run lead game. That said, there is no guarantee that we would have won the Baltimore game if another reliever would have been used, and there is no guarantee that we would have won last night's game if Kelly and Kimbrel were available.
  17. Today is a new day. I feel good about tonight's game. Especially since it's on at a decent hour.
  18. Upon closer investigation, the M's team is not nearly as good as their record indicates that they are, and they are not nearly as good as the Astros. (Sorry Harmony) The Astros have a +146 run differential and are currently 5 games below their Pythagorean W-L record. They have been unlucky in one run games with a 6-12 record. The Ms have a +27 run differential and are currently 7 games above their Pythagorean W-L record. They have been lucky in one run games with a 22-10 record. The Astros should be leading the division by 12.5 games. Barring serious injuries, look for the Astros to pull away from the Ms over the remainder of the season. The Ms may still very well make the playoffs as a WC team due to lack of better competition, but they will not challenge the Astros for the division.
  19. Exactly. These types of losses are the hardest to take, but losing a game by one run is actually much better than losing a game by a wider margin.
  20. I really, really like Betts and Beni hitting 1 and 2. I hope Cora does not change that, which it doesn't sound like he has any plans to do.
  21. Even if we didn't have the cap to worry about, there is no way that I would trade Devers for Machado.
