  1. LOL Ben would be my second choice.
  2. Actually, no. Many MLB GMs questioned this move at the time that it happened.
  3. JD's best position is at DH, but he wants to play the field and Cora has been playing him in the field often enough. Moreland is best used as a platoon player. There were plenty of at bats to go around and keep everyone happy (except for Swihart, apparently). At any rate, I get all of the logic behind the DFA. I just don't agree with it, in particular, so soon in the season.
  4. I don't disagree that it was a bad situation, brought on by the vesting option. I still do not agree with the decision to DFA him so early in the season.
  5. LOL I almost spit my drink out on this one.
  6. I would not trade away Kimbrel unless it upgrades the team as a whole. That means that any weakening in the BP would have to be more than offset by an upgrade elsewhere.
  7. Trading Kimbrel would not destroy our club. The point of the trade being, it would have to be an upgrade for this year. I agree that he alone would likely not return an upgrade in a position player, but as part of a package he could. At any rate, as I posted before, it's not going to happen.
  8. The same could be said about the Sox offense and our 6-9 black hole. They have been awful (although showing signs of life lately), yet the Sox are still winning games.
  9. That's possible. I'm not sure about his hurt pride, but my understanding is that Hanley was pretty torn up about being DFA'd, which I can't say that I blame him. It's very possible that he's taking some time away from baseball.
  10. I would not do that trade if it did not involve an upgrade for 2018. I am not talking about trading for prospects, but trading for maybe a 2B or a RHB bat. We don't really have the farm pieces to trade, whereas Kimbrel could return something of value.
  11. I am not that familiar with Scooter, though a quick glance at his stats tells me that he could be a nice little upgrade at 2B. Something worth looking into, for sure.
  12. Maybe one of us is really Dombrowski and another of us is Cora!!! Not me though. I'm Theo. Let me be Theo.
  13. Judge is a surprisingly good fielder. It seems like every Yankees game I watch, he is making a nice grab. He's no Mookie, but he's pretty good.
  14. Yes, the Yankees have been somewhat lucky as well. They are 12-4 in one run games, which is crazy. OTOH, they are also 14-4 in blowout games. In other words, they are a good team that is also lucky, that luck being the only reason that they are tied currently tied with us.
  15. So once again it comes down to the option. As I've said, I get the logic behind DFAing him when they did (CYA), but I don't agree with it at all.
  16. I criticize Dombrowski for a lot of what he's done, but I am a fan of his deadline deals. Like you, I didn't 100% like the Pom deal, but IMO, it had to be done.
  17. To me, it would actually make some sense to trade Kimbrel, but that's not going to happen.
  18. There will be a lot of teams selling this deadline. Dombrowski should be able to get the piece or pieces we need. I'm not talking Machado, but more along the lines of a good reliever.
  19. We could get every player that you've ever wanted, and that still would not guarantee a parade. That's the fallacy of the WIN NOW mentality. Besides, our team, as is, is good enough to win a World Series. Don't sell the Red Sox short.
  20. I was reading this morning about how this year's trade deadline will be an extreme buyer's market. Eleven teams are already clear sellers, with 6 more teams likely to join soon. There are several other teams that will likely eventually become sellers as well. That being the case, the feeling is that there will be no big hauls for selling teams, even for players like Machado.
  21. I completely agree Oldtimer. We do not have the resources to make several moves before the deadline, so we need to be sure that whatever moves we make are going to count. There is still time to evaluate exactly what our greatest need is going to be. Even then, I don't think that the upgrade will be that significant, mostly because we don't have any glaring holes.
  22. LOL I don't remember the exact number off the top of my head, but Beltre made a ton of errors in his first full season. It is too early to write Devers off as an adequate or ever good defensive 3B.
  23. The long term plan might be to move Devers to first, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon, like before Moreland's contract runs out. Devers was called up before he was ready defensively, so he is more or less learning and developing on the job. While he has cost us some runs defensively, the team as a whole has not suffered. As of now, we can afford to be patient with him, and he does seem to be improving.
  24. I wonder what year that was?
