I would tend to agree. He just doesn't get the playing time here that he needs to develop any kind of consistency.

Swihart might just be pretty good behind the plate. Unfortunately, he hasn't had enough playing time recently to know what we have with him. For me, depending on Swihart to do a large amount of catching is too risky.

I say keep all three and let Swihart be a super utility type. Of course, Cora would need to give him the playing time.

I agree with this. Our pitchers feel comfortable with and have confidence in Leon and Vazquez. It's not something I would mess with. As they gain more experience with our pitchers and just in general, I think they will only get better. Again, I don't care about their offense, or lack thereof.

In Kimbrel's defense, what happened in the postseason is one of those small sample size random things. I would not use that as any type of gauge as to whether to re-sign him or not. There are other factors that would keep me from re-signing him, but not his postseason woes.

I also believe that he has something up his sleeve. I just hope it doesn't involve trading someone like Jackie or Porcello for relief help. Then again, I might be pleasantly surprised by the return.

Yes, he can probably get a guaranteed starting job with some team. Also, I'm not sure he would want to come back, even if he had a good opportunity with the Sox. He may have some hard feelings after being traded, though I have not read anything to that extent.

It may be cyclic to a certain extent, but I don't believe that it's cyclic to the point where a team should go from a top 3 farm system to a bottom 3 farm system in less than 3 years. I can see going from a top 3 to maybe middle of the pack, due the cyclic nature of the circumstances.

I do not argue the point that Dombrowski job of rebuilding the farm will be more difficult than Ben's job was due to the circumstances. That really wasn't my point though.

All I'm saying is that it's possible to do, especially when spending money like the Red Sox have done.

Some teams have tanked in order to build their strong farm system. We did not have to do that in order to build our strong farm system. We had a strong farm in place, along with a strong core of MLB ready players. It was not necessary to destroy the farm in order to build a championship team.

You do not weaken the starting rotation to strengthen the pen. The only way I can see one of our top 5 starters moving to the pen is if injury concerns dictate it.

I will say this. The way that Jacko talks about our cliff coming almost makes me believe that it is not coming.

Exactly. I can't remember specifically what was said about giving Vazquez the nod in the postseason, but IIRC, it was something they really liked about his pitch calling and his openness to changing things up.

The focus is not only on them. I would gladly take any similar pitchers for similar types of deals. That said, I do believe Buchholz has more potential than many of the other depth type signings out there.
