  1. Something that I mentioned a couple of days ago about how many pitches it takes our starters to get through the 1st inning: Red Sox Stats‏ @redsoxstats 9h9 hours ago Coming out of the all star break the Sox starters have had to throw 23, 24, 27, 14, 20, and 21 first inning pitches. Not ideal.
  2. Be careful what you wish for.
  3. The new rule that they're thinking about is just silly. I tend to agree with you on the current rule too.
  4. IMO, the WTF moment was in the 9th inning. I would not have bunted then, with a runner on 1st base. Statistically speaking, you have a better chance of scoring 1 run with a runner on first and no outs, then you do with a runner on 2nd and 1 out.
  5. This is it, in a nutshell. And actually, as flawed as WAR may be, it is pretty doggone good in describing what has happened on the field.
  6. You are right, the defenders don't get any style points for the way they make the plays. However, if Jackie is really that much better than other defenders, he will get to balls that other defenders do not get to. How do you know how well Jackie is doing, relative to the other centerfielders this season? Also, and more importantly, don't read too much into a 1/2 season's worth of defensive metrics. One or two missed balls, which Jackie has had this season, can greatly sway the numbers in such a small sample size.
  7. I am on the fence about that. Cora did such a great job motivating the team last year and pushing all the right buttons, that it's hard for me to blame him this season. OTOH, the team has not looked right since the beginning of the season. They are making mental errors that we didn't see last year.
  8. Possibly, but the season isn't over yet. There's still plenty of baseball to be played. I believe the Sox are going to go on that great run that we've all been waiting for. I may be disappointed, but it wouldn't be the first time.
  9. Bad news for Porcello fans: Red Sox Stats‏ @redsoxstats 7h7 hours ago The only qualified starters in the AL with a worse ERA than Porcello are Ivan Nova, Reynaldo Lopez, and Aaron Sanchez. I still don't understand how you can think you're winning anything without Eovaldi in the rotation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It doesn't matter who is in that 5th starter spot if the other 5 pitchers don't start pitching better, which includes getting deeper into games. On the whole, Porcello's start last night was not bad. He needs to be better, but he did rebound nicely.
  10. Those numbers are brutal, especially for such a talented group of starters. I have to believe that our second half will be much stronger than the first half. Make it to the playoffs, then anything can happen.
  11. Exactly. The late inning losses are always the most glaring and the hardest to take. It's what we tend to remember more than anything else. It's easy to overlook all of the great work our pen has done.
  12. I have no problems with the way Dombrowski did things during the offseason. It looks really bad now, but I'd support the same types of moves all over again.
  13. 1. Travis has supposedly been killing the ball in AAA recently. Yes, I am aware of the SSS caveat. 2. DFAing Nunez eliminates the problem of what to do when Moreland returns, which reportedly might be Friday. OK, the Sox could have waited until Moreland actually returned, but no biggie either way. The Sox needed the roster spot, and Travis will be sent down soon enough. 3. We are now in the Marco Hernandez era, making Nunez replaceable. 4. Do you know how bad Nunez was playing? I'm not trying to knock Nunez. But it was time to part ways.
  14. I don't disagree with you, nor do I disagree with the decisions to DFA Nunez or send Velazquez down. I just don't get why this team is not clicking. There is too much talent on the team for them to be playing mediocre baseball.
  15. It's not just about how much they are being paid. Even if the starters were being paid pennies, they are not getting the job done.
  16. He didn't look good to start, but he managed to work his way through 6 innings. He has to be better, but getting through 6 innings is something. Not much, but something.
  17. 2019: Chris Sale HR/9: 1.37 Rick Porcello HR/9: 1.36 Sale is supposed to be our ace, yet he seems to get a pass on giving up more HRs than Porcello.
  18. If there ever is a time to employ the sac bunt, this was the time. That said, I don't think Cora screwed the pooch, necessarily. I don't have a problem with taking 3 shots at scoring a runner from 2B and no outs. There's a chance Marco gets a hit. There's also a chance he makes an out, but advances the runner anyway. The real problem is Jackie's base running blunder, not Cora's decision.
  19. Exciting is not the word I would use to describe this. LOL
