  1. I agree also. Price did not let sleeping dogs lie. He had finally won most of the fans back and had been pitching really well. Then this incident resurfaces, and Price throws a clunker. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.
  2. It was a pathetic game all around. Pathetic pitching, pathetic offense. Against one of the worst teams in baseball. Pathetic. What else can you say?
  3. I 100% agree with all of that. And yet, the statistics do not bear that out. A pitcher will pitch a batter differently, but the results to the hitter are not significantly different. A hitter does the same whether he has Devers or Leon batting behind him, even with all the added confidence.
  4. Sarcasm or not, it's the truth!
  5. Stat of the Day - Wins Lost (the starter was in line for the loss, but the pen blew it) versus Losses Saved (the starter was in line for the loss, but the offense and the pen bailed him out) for each starter: Sale: 2-2 Eovaldi: 1-3 Porcello: 3-1 Price: 3-4 ERod: 2-1 Johnson: 1-0 Velazquez: 0-2 Weber: 0-1 Overall: 12-14
  6. WAR is never a debate ender. However, if I had to go by only one stat to assess a player, it would definitely be WAR. It is more comprehensive than any other stat available to us.
  7. Ditto. As I said before, my money is on Sale.
  8. Give your fellow posters some credit. We know that if Sale pitches 7 innings, giving up 1 run, that he pitched a great game, whether the team wins or loses. Sale pitched great last night. That said, you are only kidding yourself if you think his pitching this year has not been a problem.
  9. Great tweet from Speier: "Sale is confused by the sudden offensive explosion." LOL
  10. I remember how upset most people were when Holt was re-signed last time. LOL
  11. Last night's game is a good example of what our team should look like. Mookie has heated up. If these guys play like they are capable of playing, we are as good as any team out there.
  12. He should help, mostly because he's a much needed fresh arm. I think he can be very good in this role. I think it's a mistake to make him a closer over a starter, but I understand why they're doing it.
  13. Tanner Houck is also making some noise.
  14. Which is about the difference in the standings. I also looked at the records in games where our pitchers gave up 3 or fewer runs, to see how many losses might be attributed to lack of offense each year. 2018: 74-8 (.902) 2019: 27-3 (.900) Those are almost identical.
  15. At this point? No.
  16. Do you think the Nerds would suggest that Dombrowski sign Pearce based on the emotion of the WS? The same type of thing was said when the Sox signed Panda, that they were fooled by his postseason performance. Give the GMs some credit. They are smarter than that, even the non-analytic ones. The Nerds would definitely not be fooled by post season heroics. Hmm. I wonder if Lucchino is still pulling strings from somewhere behind the curtains.
  17. Since this ownership group took over, I have felt that going into every season, the team had a legitimate chance of making the playoffs. That's really all we can ask for as fans.
  18. This season is not on Dombrowski. It's on the players not performing to their expectations and randomness. Maybe some on Cora. As I said many times in my defense of Ben, when the pre-season projections, both analytic and non-analytic, agree that the Sox should be one of the top 2-3 teams in baseball, then the GM has done his job.
  19. Ha. Perfect post. #BringBenBack
  20. Also, our starters were supposed to be our strength, carrying the load for the pen. People can blame the pen as much as they want. They have been bad. But it starts with the rotation.
  21. We will have to disagree on this. I just have a different opinion on building a bullpen than most people have. Dombrowski replaced Kimbrel and Kelly. He just didn't replace them with the well known names.
  22. Short term deals for bench/platoon players. I have no issue with either contract. Same thing with Moreland.
  23. People are talking crazy talk. We will not be sellers. We are not going to blow this team up.
  24. Last year, when the Sox scored 3 runs or fewer, they were 13-37 (.260). To date this season, when the Sox scored 3 runs or fewer, they are 3-25 (.107). Not good in either case, as one would expect, but we are doing worse in that category this year than last year. Pitching, pitching, pitching.
  25. Earlier in the season, our offense was streaky and unable to come up with a timely hit. IMO, they were more to blame than the BP. At this point, I agree that they are now the least to blame.
