  1. I don't think Dombrowski deserved to be fired over the team's record this season. That was not his fault. That said, I am pleased that Dombrowski is gone, and that Henry appears to be headed back to the path that he was on with each of his other GMs, and back to the team building philosophy that I have always advocated.
  2. I am really not trying to play the discredit game. I am trying to give credit where credit is due, to Cherington, who rarely gets the credit he deserves. At least Cherington was part of the team during the Theo years, and presumably had a hand in building the team that Theo left.
  3. Ah, I wasn't sure what you were talking about. I have not gotten any political ads, but I get other ads. Not in the middle of posts though?
  4. Music to my ears.
  5. We will have to disagree on all of these points.
  6. It will either happen today or tomorrow! I'm guessing tomorrow. I suspect that JD is feeling out every possible scenario. I think that his preference is to opt out and try to get more money, but no one can be sure of what his market will be. Boras thought he would get a lot more than he did last time around.
  7. Yes, they do. It is a fact that payroll has a direct relationship to long term success in the regular season, though there is little relationship to single season success. The Cards do not have the payroll that the Yankees or the Red Sox have, but they have a higher payroll than the other teams in their division, except for the Theo driven Cubs.
  8. Yes, arbitration is indeed broken.
  9. Of course. The point is that you need a strong farm system.
  10. Cherington deserves far more credit for Dombrowski's title than Dombrowski deserves.
  11. The sarcasm in your posts serves the same purpose as directly calling someone an idiot.
  12. Once again, the flag does not fly if the farm system were not in place. Also, while the fans might not bemoan the current state of the farm, they are certainly bemoaning the current constraints the Sox are under due to the reckless spending.
  13. It is not an either/or thing though. It's just not. The only way Dombrowski won that WS was because of the farm system and the home grown players that were in place when he got here.
  14. I have always prioritized building a strong farm system above everything else when it comes to building a strong franchise. Ben did that and built the foundation for our success in the Dombrowski years. I will always defend Ben for that.
  15. LOL Not true. Have you been here through the Dombrowski years?
  16. Reportedly, this is one of Bloom's specialties.
  17. No, Theo is not perfect. He has made his share of mistakes, and paying big prices for relievers is one of them. The ironic thing is that after Foulke, I'm pretty sure he commented about the mistake of signing relievers to big deals. That said, he is still the GOAT. FTR, when Theo signed Kimbrel, I posted in that thread something along the lines of "Theo has lost his mind." These GMs should listen to me more often.
  18. Thanks for the clarification. I'm not sure that we can really conclude anything from that data.
  19. That's true, but I would hope not. I still haven't forgiven Theo for that one.
  20. LOL Yes!
  21. I think there was some truth to that, especially for guys like Friedman and Theo who are already the top guy in their organizations. But as with most of those stories, it was also likely exaggerated. I think it would be difficult for a young executive like Bloom to turn down the opportunity.
  22. IMO, Bloom will be much more on the same page with the current high ranking FO employees than Dombrowski was. Hence, the decisions will be much more collaborative, rather than having the feel of a "Chief" making decisions on his own. Call it GM by committee if you want, but I think it's a good thing to have a FO leader who is open to what the rest of his/her staff has to say. Let me be on record as saying that I am very happy about both the Bloom and Bush hirings.
  23. Long live JBJ! Unfortunately, I do believe he will be non-tendered or traded due to his expected salary.
  24. Pardon my befuddlement, but I have no idea what I'm looking at with these numbers.
  25. You don't think the difference between 55.7% and 53.2% is a crapshoot? As far as a study since 2003, I don't think there would be that much difference. Several studies have been done since 1995 when the wildcards began. I can't see 8 years making any difference. At any rate, we're going around in circles. We'll have to agree to disagree.
