  1. Amen.
  2. Ha.
  3. I don't think Mookie's fair market value is 5-6 years, based on the contracts that are being thrown around. But if I'm a GM, that's about what I would willingly pay him, with a higher AAV. I might reluctantly go 7-8 years for a guy like Mookie, the key word here being 'reluctantly'.
  4. Thanks! It's nice and sunny down here today, so I'll have to make sure I go outside soon.
  5. Which is exactly the way it should be.
  6. I think including Price in any trade as a salary dump would be a mistake.
  7. And this is why I returned. You need a little jolt of optimism in your Red Sox forecast. IMO, at least 2 of Sale, Price, and Eovaldi will have better seasons than they did last year, if not all of them. I'm not saying that they will return to prime form, but they will be good. Our offense, with or without Mookie will be good. I don't get the pessimism behind the upcoming season. If I'm not mistaken, we are currently have the 4th best ZIPS projection, though granted, we are 2nd in our own division.
  8. I am very pleased that Mitch was re-signed. Great clubhouse guy and veteran presence. He's good for Devers.
  9. Good to see you Hitch.
  10. They are good enough with or without Betts, as long as they have the starting pitching. They have the starting pitching, if the guys stay healthy. Granted, that's a big if.
  11. There is no reason to give up on 2020. If we trade Mookie and bring back someone like Verdugo, the Sox will be highly competitive. If the Sox also throw in Price as a salary dump, then it might be a different story. But as of now, there is no reason to give up on this season.
  12. The argument that "it's not our money, why should we care" is a weak argument that has never made sense to me. Still doesn't hold much water.
  13. I would pay Mookie $32.5 mil a year for about 5 years. It's not the dollar amount, it's the number of years.
  14. Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. I am very late to the Mookie conversation, but his counter offer of 12 years / $420 mil is way beyond reasonable. I am glad he supposedly declined the Sox 10 year offer, because I would not even pay him that. As of now, I am so over this Mookie saga. Trade him, bring back a viable right fielder and some prospects, and be done with it.
  15. I am 100% on board with this. Just say no to the old-school retreads.
  16. I'm really not OK with a below average defensive first baseman. A great first baseman can make the rest of the infield look that much better. That said, if given the choice between having JD in the OF or having him at 1B, I'd opt for 1B.
  17. I like to see the team be competitive year in and year out. I don't consider it a failure if the team makes the postseason but doesn't win the World Series. It's heartbreaking to be eliminated from the postseason, but it doesn't make the year a failure.
  18. Interesting. Must be the Bobby V factor.
  19. You said that much better than I.
  20. I don't think it's necessarily one or the other. I think it's that they feel that Bloom is the best man to make the correct decision about Mookie in terms of both long and short term goals.
  21. I agree that Dombrowski should not be blamed for our probably inability to retain Mookie. Mookie is just going to cost too much.
  22. If the team is winning, the fans will be happy. There will be more fans in the seats if the team is winning without Mookie versus if the team is not winning with Mookie.
  23. So after the farm is rebuilt and strong again, I guess we need to give Dombrowski credit for tearing down the farm, which caused Henry to replace him with Bloom?
  24. That's a pretty big stretch Bell.
