  1. He is set for life, which is precisely the reason that he should be willing to give the team somewhat of a discount. He should have accepted this deal two years ago.
  2. Fair. They have some other terrible contracts on their roster as well. That said, Trout is under contract until 2030. That's scary, and he's the best player in baseball.
  3. Because they really, really want Betts.
  4. There is no way that the Yankees weren't stealing signs, and CC knows this. This is one of those cases where the other players should just keep their mouths shut.
  5. It would make sense. Might even be a 3-4 year deal.
  6. I was agreeing with you. I am rolling my eyes at Mookie saying that he needs to go to free agency because he has the player's union to think about.
  7. We'll take Verdugo, Maeda, and a lesser ranked prospect.
  8. I am glad they didn't counter. Maybe the Sox heard Mookie's counter and saw the writing on the wall. No need to counter.
  9. Personally, I wouldn't do 10/300, but that's just me.
  10. I completely agree about the farm system. Bloom was brought in mostly to rebuild the farm, but I think, on the whole, he has a balanced approach. He will be balancing the short term goals with the long term goals.
  11. I would try to get the Dodgers to throw in a prospect as well.
  12. Of course it does. Trout's contract greatly restricts the Angels in other areas.
  13. If the deal fell through, it would be bad for both teams. Don't underestimate the Dodgers' need to get this done though. It's not only about getting Mookie, but they had other moving parts too, for which the deal falling through would not sit well.
  14. Right, sensible people just don't like good players.
  15. I completely agree with your first paragraph. Well said. However, the Red Sox didn't trade Mookie "just like that". This is something that has been considered and reconsidered for several years now. The trade is not something the Sox would do lightly, despite all the media speculation to the contrary.
  16. Oh, it would be terrible if he backs out now, not only because of public perception, but what are Mookie and Price going to feel like being back with the Red Sox? I don't see this deal not being completed. The Dodgers are in a similar situation. They need this to get done.
  17. 12 years $420 mil is not reasonable for Mookie. He is not Mike Trout, and that isn't even reasonable for Trout.
  18. Right, because he has the player's union to think about.
