  1. Let me rephrase then. I bet we would have still won the division 3 years in a row, and had a very good chance of winning the WS. You are correct though, nothing is guaranteed or even highly predictable in the postseason.
  2. I was a Bloom fan based on his reputation, before he even made his first move with the Sox. More to the point, I'm a fan of his balanced approach toward long term goals as well as short term goals, which is the way it should be. It will take some time to get the farm system back to where we want it. You are absolutely right that people need to have some patience and not give up on him too quickly. IMO, he's off to a very good start.
  3. I really have no problem with either the Eovaldi or Sale extensions, though I would have preferred a year shorter on both extensions. Even without those extensions, I would not want to re-sign Mookie for 10+ years. I was disappointed that the Sox didn't re-sign Porcello for the amount that he received from the Mets.
  4. We are apparently not getting fat Beni this year. Look for him to improve over last season.
  5. I agree that it would serve our best interest to pick up a 5th starter now from the scrap heap, then see how we look and what we can do at the deadline. And no, I don't really expect an impact starter, but more along the lines of someone who can eat some innings and keep us in the game. It's looking less and less likely that JBJ will be traded due to Verdugo's back issues.
  6. Price was able to 'opt out' of his contract without actually opting out. I think he'll be much happier in LA.
  7. The nonsense about the Sox trying to back out was just that. Nonsense concocted up by fans and the media.
  8. IMO, Dombrowski messed up big time. Then, he did some good things.
  9. Henry should have never hired Dombrowski. If he didn't, I'd bet that we would still have a WS Championship and there'd be a better chance that we'd have Mookie.
  10. Since Henry took over the team, there hasn't been a single season where he hasn't put a contender on the field. There are some seasons when things didn't work out, but that has nothing to do with Henry's checkbook. As fans, we really can't ask for more. Well, we can, but then we start sounding like the entitled Yankees fans that we used to hate.
  11. I really hope not. We would soon enough rue the day we signed Mookie to a mega deal.
  12. Or by paying Mookie $18 mil a year for 5 years to play for another team so that we can clear some money off the books.
  13. There are some who want to trade Jackie, just for the sake of having him off the team. They don't like his 'light bat'. Now that we have Pillar, trading Jackie to upgrade the pitching makes some sense, although I don't think that Jackie being traded is a foregone conclusion.
  14. My thoughts exactly. OTOH, we do need pitching...
  15. It will be interesting to see what happens with JBJ, but I don't think he'll be traded. There will enough at bats to go around to all 4 outfielders.
  16. The rotation is shaky. I think Bloom will get us more pitching sooner rather than later.
  17. As of now, it seems like the Red Sox are OK going with some type of creativity for the 5th rotation spot. We'll see how that goes. I agree that it might work out better to wait until closer to deadline, but I really think that we need some more starting depth right now.
  18. These Tampa Bay type moves are often the best moves made.
  19. Good stuff Bell. Now we know at least part of the reason why so many mediocre/aging players suddenly find it when they sign with the Yankees.
  20. Amen, brother Hitch. Well said.
  21. But now you can watch Verdugo. And in a couple of years, Downs. How exciting is that???
  22. As far as Graterol goes, if he projects to be a starter, which apparently he does not, then I would have preferred him over Downs. If his ceiling is a strong reliever, than I much prefer Downs. In short, Starter Graterol > Downs > Reliever Graterol.
