Yea Bogey gets too much criticism for his defence. It's not great, but its not poor either. His hitting is what bothers me. He should be producing more power. I'm hoping Cora sorts out his swing. 20 a year from Bogey should not be asking too much.

Yup! It's been my No 1 biggest annoyance these past few years. Watching a hitter quite literally tell the pitcher - "The first one is on me. Throw it in there."

That's a pretty useless piece of writing seeing as half the teams he's discussing he mentions don't really have the prospects to do the trade. If we trade JJB it most certainly is not for prospects.

Holt traded, Nunez signed as second base for the foreseeable and Hernandez as the multi tool spanner for now. We can but dream...

But we have players who can play 2nd base and several other positions. Nunez wouldn't play 1st. That said if Nunez is healthy I'd love to have him back if we can make the salary work and trade Holt.

It's going to be a smack on the face for us either way. If he pitches to ace quality (or anything near it) he goes and we will need to replace his performance. If he plays porly or gets injured, we are suckered with the rest. At the very least, I hope it's option A. Having Price and Sale dominating would be a beautiful thing.

There's no reason to cut him yet. Bring in JD, see if Hanley can find some form and earn at least part of his contract. And stop him getting to the vesting option. That's the smart plan ahead. If he plays up or sinks, then cut him.

Duda, maybe. Hanley will still play at 1st and if he plays very well he will get more time. Seeing as he's a major injury risk coming off TWO shoulder surgeries, I quite like this move as a safety option. And if we want to get rid in a years time, I think we can probably shift Moreland's contract. We are keeping our powder dry for next year's free agency.

It's interesting to have watched you jump from a poster absolutely delighted with the trade and considering it a steal for the Yanks, to falling over yourself to say Jeter got a good deal. I don't buy into the conspiracy theories on this, but you're happily playing both sides here. -
We will sign JD and Morleand keeps Hanley from vesting. That saves us next year from Hosmer's huge contract (now he's not signing) and Hanley's huge final year. That money will go into somebody big at the free agency buffet. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

I don't hate the signing. It keeps us away from Hosmer and doesn't add much to the payroll. Next year we are going to make a splash on somebody. I hear rumours of Sox trying to find a way to trade Hanley, too. If we sign JD, with Moreland signed up, that option won't vest.

As moon just said, security is also a big pull. It might well be 10 years at $350m that gets it done. My bet would be you put 10 years at $300m in front of him and he says thanks very much. This all moot however, we aren't putting that offer in front of him.

He might if he's offered free agency money now. Unlikely to happen as I said, but far from impossible.

We could put him where Bogey is. That would be an upgrade that would be very welcome. Send Bogey and Groome and tell the Orioles/Machado it's dependent on a contract extension. Sign JD. Happy days. Also never going to happen.
